Sunny update! More photo spam!

Pellets in my house get added to scrambled eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, bird bread, ect... I'm sneaking.. also lucky my birds eat them plain, and use them for hand feeding as treats. I love the pictures of your baby, and so cute photo story with the pellets!!

Pellets? Hmmmmmm.....will there be an indoor play stand in his future too? [emoji6]

Hahaha, it’s Sunnys fault! He isn’t hanging around with the Corellas much anymore, I do tell him but he doesn’t listen:p

But pellets is as far as it goes :D

Do we have a bookie here? What’s the over/under on an indoor playstand by Christmas?

Teasing you, of course, Hannah, although my long distance love affair with Sunny still has me hoping that someday the two of you make it permanent! [emoji3590]

Haven't seen a post from Hannah and Sunny lately

Hannah was online this morning. Hopefully she's just embarrassed to post about the indoor play stand she ordered. ;)

Hey everyone!
I’m overdue an update it seems! Though not much to report, Sunny is still Sunny.
He still sleeps on the beams in the barn, however has gone somewhere else on 2 separate nights, I’m not sure where but hopefully with the Wilds!

I’m unsure if he’s actually eating any pellets.. I must watch tomorrow. They are always gone but the peacocks know where I feed Sunny so it’s probably them that’s finishing off the pellets lol.. or mice.
I’ve recently discovered that Sunny enjoys brocollini, peas and sweet corn.

He’s sometimes very bitey and mean with other people.. I don’t know how to correct this as it’s quite difficult with his situation :33:

How do I tell him off? He gets SO stroppy when I try, haha!

He sometimes hangs out with the Galahs when there feasting in the paddock next to the cottage or in the pine tree opposite.
And he did actually fly off to hang out with some Corellas and sulphur crested’s the other day that where digging on the Dam. But he stayed closer to the ducks..
He knows all the alert calls of the wild birds. And he can spot a small eagle/hawk from way off.

He gets very excited most mornings and evenings, flying around sqwarking. Swinging his head and body about making a funny racket sitting high in the barn.

He still much prefers to drink straight out the hose when it’s running rather than a bucket etc.

He thinks all feed in horse buckets are made for him.

He LOVES attacking/playing with my welly boots when I leave them on the doorstep.

I do occasionally let him indoors for a few minutes as I love hearing his little feet pitter patter on the floor :p I put him on the beam today while I was sewing but he flew straight back down.

He has a bad habit of greeting me when I’m DRIVING down the drive way. Landing and proceeding to ride on the car with great delight.

He has been missing a few tail feathers almost as long as I’ve known him, doesn’t effect his flying, but will they eventually grow back?

Awesome update Hannah, now we know a lil more about his personality. Seems he identifies with other species of birds as well as humans. Truly an ambassador from the land of Corellas!

He's definitely bonded to you, a shame he doesn't like other people so much. Is he civil with your partner?

Some birds are born without specific feathers. One of my goffins lacks 2 central tail feathers. When spread, the tail looks like the letter V.

Video so typical, toos are little energizer bunnies!

Thanks Scott! Yes he’s quite a diverse bird, he’s got to know all the local wildlife I recon!

Yes he is rather bonded to me, He’s pretty good with one of the kids (12yr old) that lives here. But for the most part he is quite rude to everyone else!
He is civil to my partner most of the time, But sunny will only tolerate him for a little while before digging his beak in.. He’s actually house sitting currently away from home for 10 weeks so will be interesting to see how Sunny is with him when he returns. He’s come home on the odd day here and there and Sunny seems to be okay with him.
Sunny can be nice to others sometimes though. Just depends. It’s amazing how people don’t seem to know how to approach a bird for the first time..or immediately go to stroke their chest or back. He’s usually okay with them if they get the eye stroke right on the first time!

Oh really! Yes that’s what Sunnys tail is like! However I think I do remember him having a full tail in the very early days, But quickly lost a couple somehow.

The photo of Sunny in your boot..either his nose is broken or your feet don't smell lol (j/k of course!) and the vid of him playing..such a happy little guy he is! thanks so much for the update Hannah :D

Oh Hannah, your photos of Sunny do me good! Rosetta thinks he's a hunk-and-a-half, just FYI! She tosses her whiffle ball exactly the same way Sunny tosses his rock. I can just imagine them playing tennis together.

Ahem. I really think you should have an indoor t-perch for Sunny. That way, he can have 'his' place when people come so everyone knows the score. People don't approach Sunny when he's on his perch and he doesn't approach them. He's so smart, I bet he'd learn in just a few sessions.

He looks so happy and healthy and (is it just me?) a bit larger than your run-of-the-mill Long-billed Corella. :)

Well what can I say, I don’t blame Rosetta having a crush on Sunny, he sure is a handsome boy! (Well we assume boy..haha!):D I LOVE the way they throw the toys up in the air, such a delight to watch them playing.

It’s a good idea with the indoor play perch, however Sunny isn’t often indoors and I don’t really have guests anyway lol! It’s the people who come out to see the Brumbies they don’t seem to have much of an idea. And to be fair it’s usually when he’s sitting on my arm they try and pay him and Sunnys like ‘erm no that what my mum is for..’

Lovely to hear you think he looks happy and healthy, of course I think that too but great to know from actual parrot people for reassurance :D hmm I’m
Not sure if he’s bigger than other Corellas, I don’t think he is? The long billers are larger than the little Corellas though.

Thanks Bertrisher :)

Okay so I taught Sunny how to open this container today!
He learnt it in about 20 minutes, proud of my clever boy:D

So cute! Smart little guy:)

Rosetta is beside herself! What a brainiac Our Sunny is! We are in LOVE!

Hannah, why don't you consider target training him? It's so useful, especially if you need to get him to or away from something quickly in case of emergency. Also, you could start teaching him recall (if he doesn't do it already). Considering his outdoor lifestyle, it could be useful to have him come immediately to his name if, say, a Wedge-tailed Eagle were flying over.

Teaching birds to do things is so much fun and so rewarding because they truly enjoy it. Just like teaching a horse to jump, really. Sunny is clearly hanging on your every word, so I think we all know he's going to be a quick study no matter what you choose to teach him.

PS. If you look on ebay, you can get various toys from Chinese sellers, eg. jigsaw shapes to put into holes (square, circle, triangle, etc), a stacking pole with rings, a basketball hoop and ball etc). Just sayin'... ;)
