Worried

Hi all, so caspa the African grey is now 2 years old , I bought him from hatch , I have never had a parrot before but love him so so so much , now, he plucks a lot , he use to fly as never had his wings clipped ( I found that cruel and couldn’t go through with it ) he cannot fly anymore due to plucking and also being so playful lost a lot of his wings feathers , me and him get along so well he cuddles me at nights he sweats at me lol tells me he loves me and talks so much , I work so he is let out his cage for an hour in the morning and when I get home my flat is his playground , he’s fed well fruit and veg and sunflower seeded food , he looks so scruffy now and I’m a little worried I’m doing something wrong any help would be appreciated

If you are within 18 months it maybe worth having your Certified Avian Vet complete a skin biopsy of the area of the plucking and from an area, which is not plucked. There is a very small chance that it maybe a skin bacterial infection. Please understand that it is very rare.

Gray's tend to want lots of attention and social interaction! It is possible that you may need to vastly increase interaction and/or toys to disassemble! They are also very intelligent and boredom can be a serious problem

Hi sally thanks for replying I really appreciate it , I am investing in more toys for him but he does have many as it stands but maybe a few more would help , I do give him as much attention as I can , talking to him , cuddles every night , kisses , , he’s so energetic , he has never bitten or even thought about so I’m hoping he’s not unhappy , I’ve spoken to a few vets and they told me to introduce a vitamin to his drinking water which I have done recently , I will now definitely book an appointment with a aviary vet , I just want him to be happy where he is , he seems it he really does and will listen to any advice I can to help this beauty fly again
