Right now Salty is.....

And he likes it ! Yeayyyyyy - $90 and 4 hours of work NOTwasted.

Inger , Salty is not flighted, and he is about due to get some of his Primaries trimmed. I've lost 2 flighted parrots, and only recovered 1. I wouldn;t wish my worst enemy to know what that feels like. Read Mark's ( Birdman666 ) thread on the loss of his flighted macaw, Maggie.
If you aren't in tears after the first page..... and she was flighted for years; she and Mark used to go flying all the time. A random disturbance, a puff of wind. Gone. ( Sorry Mark to use Maggies tale to make a point). No thanks, Salty will stay with us, safe. If he needs stimulation, I'll take him to Vegas to deal Black Jack.

Oh I cried about Maggie ages ago. And I hold a healthy hatred for whoever has decided to keep her. Bumble only gets to fly in the house. I would never suggest free-flight outside. I have an anxiety disorder that manifests itself in pet-worry, so that seems horrifying to me. No offense to those who choose to let their birds fly outside-to each his own.

"13) Picking out small animals and giving them to me"
Okay, this put some hilarious visuals in my head. Everyone! Hide your rabbits, hamsters and gerbils! Salty is coming!!! Hahaha!

That card trick still amazes me, Al. You really have a gift for training. And Salty is freaking brilliant!

Thank you, but Salty does most of the work in learning new stuff. If he gets stuck, he lets me help him to get the trick right, and knows that he is expected to do it by himself after.

The small animals are those German hard rubber ones, and we have quite a few to alternate with Salty, but re-reading it, I can see how one might want to hide their baby seaturtles !

The card trick was relatively easy to teach him. WHat amazes me is that he surrenders the cards and the small animals to me so easily, just a quick 'Give to Daddy" , and he drops whatever into my hand. He also likes when I give him the "Throw it away" command, which means he can just throw what ever over the edge of the table. He really enjoys that!

We ( Salty, Geri and I ) are going to make a day of it, going to the local bird shop and visiting a nice seaside park we have here. It will be the first time Salty will be in harness and in the car with someone else besides me. But I will bring the pac-o-bird just in case.

Take pics! Or video, better yet! (Just not while driving! Lol!)

What a nice day! We spent the afternoon sitting by the pond in Bayshore and watching the geese, swans and wild ducks swimming and feeding. Salty was NOT crazy about being around all those big birds and hid behind my neck a lot of time. And they were hungry too, as some family found out when they tried to picnic right next to the pond. They had 30 or more geese gaggling them for bits of sandwich - better them than us. Salty put his harness on pretty easily, I'm finding its easier to get the head loop over his head, and then do the rest with him on his back. And he got a new sea grass toy from the pet shop - who knew he would like that stuff so much.

Al...I still get a huge kick from that laugh..and the "ahhhhhh" at the end :D

Amy seems to be enjoying her flapping sessions, and is doing pretty darn good at it. I think I'm going to start to broaden her horizons and try the card trick..seems easy enough..and maybe the one on one time with just her and I will keep her mind off BB's digs.

Jim, start with a king and some 4s. Let her see the king and take it from you and play with it for a bit. Now she knows thats king. If Amy doesnt work on a table, you could fan them out like hand o'seven card.

Saltys twisted feather is not better and it must be hurting him cuz he just nailed me pretty good putting him to bed, something he's not done before. If he hasn't pulled it out himself I will get the vet to take a look. Dr. Davis has to make a boat payment anyway, so she'll see us tomorrow night.

Awww them damn feathers! I'm sure you read the post I did with BB the other day with two of his sleeves amiss...I NEVER heard him scream so loud before! He was running in circles and flapping madly I was in tears..and yes he bit me a couple times too which he never does. Thank god I was able to sooth him and work them back in place..I was frantic..

How do you keep Salty from not just walking away from his tricks? I don't know if Amy has the patients to stay focused like Salty..can't hurt but try,she suprises me often lol

We do trick training on our coffee table after I clean it off, and set up all the tricks. He aint walking away from anything - Salty loves his treaties too much. I would pic a place where there is no distractions and it can be just you and Amy working together.

I have my kitchen table in mind...she has been on it many times hanging out with me and Joe when we play cards..she just doesn't have a specific treat that she really loves...except chicken leg bones lol.

Salty has taken to talking his fool head off while Geri is prepping dinner. Its cracks me up because he runs through almost everything he says normally and there is always new stuff he decides is squawk worthy. Sometimes its things from Youtube videos and sometimes its things that we say to him or Tinker, our Cairn terrier, or to each other. "Come ON Tinker, get in here", "Be careful there" which Geri says all the time to Salty as he hangs by one toe, "Where's **** " which could be Me, or Geri or Erik, and the mystery name, "Lou Ferigno", we have no idea where he picked that up from. All of these plus the Youtube stuff coupled with all sorts of laughs and snippets of classical opera. IT's almost my favorite time of the day, sitting in the living room, smelling dinner getting ready and listening to Salty.

Salty and "his" family... :D :D :D

Well we only give Salty the actual crust with little or no sauce in it. Amy on the other hand gets a whole slice. But crust or slice, or chicken bone for that matter should be given once in awhile, maybe 1st a month. Most parrots if given people food too often will turn up their noses to their own food.
