Just hanging out in the AC'd bedroom. Salty especially likes a good scatchin' in air conditioning.

Today Salty and I hit a few non-pet stores, including a supermarket. He puts his harness on now so quickly it was worth the 1 year of training with him. It was pretty funny at the supermarket people were asking ( among other things) "Why does he stay on you shoulder - why doesn't he fly away?". I told them I had glued his feet to my shirt. In fact I used Polly-Grip. That stuff works GREAT! Lots of laughs.

And then I fell asleep after I let him roost on his play chain, and Geri woke me up a few min before 1 AM to finally put Salty in his cage for the night. He'll probably be grouchy tomorrrow.

You and Salty (Geri too of course) make me almost wish I'd have taken the 2 amazons with me when I picked up Japie (the owner was kind of desperate for me to bring them as well, but I chickend out/ put my foot down; one of them was really aggressive <wildcaught?> the other had a misshapen beak ... and I hadn't read up on them here of course).

Japie and I had issues in the beginning because he sort of speaks fluent amazonian and I only understand CAG-speak

Thank you (once again) for showing the fun side of these little fellows- :)
they have the reputation of being screamers and biters here and are more thought of as decoration than anything else.
(So: aviarybirds if you really do not like your distant neighbours at best ...)

ROFL @ glueing and poly-grip

Salty has been taken up with singing along ( his version) when ever there is a singing voice on the TV. Doesn't matter if its a jingle or a part of a movie sound track, he starts up 'LaaLaa La la La'. It is VERY funny to watch and hear.

We have also been working on some new tricks. I got a 3 foot long bird ladder, and Salty will climb all the way to the top when I hold it vertically to get his little treat, then climb back down. I am thinking of incorporating the ladder into a type of see-saw deal.
Salty also now puts his wooden veggie toys into his little shopping cart first, and then goes shopping ( pushing it around). He LOVES learning, as I've said before, once you get your bird into the idea of learning, they will surpass your wildest dreams on what they will absorb.

I love reading of Saltys exploits. I’m starting again with Kevin what a great experience and I’m following you for tips all the time. Kevin is very smart, gentle, but never learned to step up. He’s accepted my hands easily and takes treats no problem. Now i can hold my hand at his chest. Next step is getting up. Slow and steady wins the race.

They're forecasting a return of the heat this weekend way out here in mid-America. So you may want to provide your window unit a good cleaning in advance! Since what roams though here tends to end-up in your area before heading off to England.

Always a joy to catch-up on the joy of Salty's activities!

Funny you should mention pizza thats what we had for dinner. Salty can smell it right as it comes thru the door and starts dancing from foot to foot, cuz he knows he gets 1/4 of a crust as a part of his dinner. Tinker gets the other 3/4. We generally get pizza 2x a month, so not often.

Hey we have some smart, creative folks on here how about some ideas for new tricks for Salty? He's coming along with his piano lessons ( even made a little song for him and he almost has that down pat). I am running out of ideas! I wish I could find someone who makes the parrot bicycles but the ones who do only make them for macaw size parrots. At 300 gr he's not much bigger than a Grey parrot.

Band reahearsal weekend, Salty spent the evening sitting on my shoulder trying to eat the bow and shoulder rest on my fiddle. Lots of scotch was imbibed and he only got to roost around 11pm. Up early too, but he is not being grouchy, so good things! More music this after noon, breaking in a new guitarist. Salty did a few tricks on the kitchen table!

By you? Or Salty? Being a pirate's parrot, I figure the answer could potentially go either way. Lol!

What a good boy he was today ! I took Salty to a Bluegrass jam session and he was a perfect gentleman and a tribute to Amazons. Calm, not touching his harness, shaking hands and NOT trying to eat my fiddle. I just had to reward him with a special late lunchie of blueberries and red grapes. Today was worth every day of the year we took to get Salty used to the harness. I so recommed folks take the slow and easy route with it. Ellen has a great response to a member thread going on now about hardness training. Well worth reading.
