I wonder how he would be Roulette? He could just poop on the wining square!

On a heavier note, I'm getting ready to go to CHna again, right after Thanksgiving, for 2 weeks. I dont know who is going to miss the other more. 2 whole weeks with out my Salty boy to say Hi Daddy when I get back to the hotel - I will be so busy, I hope it goes quickly. I just promised to bring him back something cool from China. Geri and I are all set so we can video skype and Salty does recognize me on the screen, so we'll see. I might hit the Bird Market or Street, what evers, and see some Asian parrots. I'll never forget when I saw a cockatoo in China for the first time, and he looked at me and said 'nihow' ( Hello in Mandarin). I was floored - but what else would a Chinese parrot say?

maybe "you want rice with that?"

Hi,

How does Salty respond to you when you return?
I’ve heard stories, where ‘their’ human leaves for a while on business and upon returning they pluck all of their chest feathers. :52:

I make sure I talk about the trip a lot and tell him I will be back in 2 weeks, I do that a lot before I go away. if i do it, he is usually OK with me and is excited to see me. If I do not say anything , yes, he is pissed off at me for a few days. My band is away on long weekends sometimes, so I learned pretty quickly to inform his Nibs about trips.

That's great, glad to hear it.
I have only had Levi for 15 months and I've never been away from him. We take him everywhere. However, there may be a time or two in the future and I am concerned about it. Especially, reading horror stories when ppl return and the birds behavior is crazy and they are emotionally damaged. It's worrisome.

Yesterday, Sat, I stopped and got Salty a few ( 3) new toys, to build up a stockpile for when I am away. But after I hung one up on his hanging ceiling chain, he demolished it in record time. One hour and fourtey five minutes !! Like a winged wood chipper. At that rate I'll have to leave Geri something like 3 dozen toys - Yipes ! Salty has always liked his chewing wood toys, but in the last several months, he has really gone to town on them. Thankfully he likes the 3 & 4 dollar ones, instead of the $15 dollar ones. If anyone doubts the cost of owning a parrot, I'll be glad to send them the receipts !

Have you tried any DIY toys for him?

No, but I think I am going to have to DIY some.

I bought a bunch of toy parts and I just string them together. Bumble doesn’t mind. But if I were more handy, I’d get safe wood and make stuff from scratch!

80% of DYI is being observant, while dismantling what was manufactured and/or assembled to sell in Pet Stores or on-line.

Find an information source: Local Hardware Store, targeting the older gals and guys!

The more you do, the more you can do! Get in there, make mistakes, and 'learn' from them! The majority of this hesitation is the fear of making a mistake! The true fear should be 'not learning from it!'

FYI: Love Bumble!

Toy's...not until very recently has Amy been really interested in toys. Beeber's on the other hand, has a slew of 'tiel sized toy's,either hanging from the rafters in his house,or just laying on his roof.
There has been night's,where I plunk my butt on the couch to watch the idiot box, with both kids in their houses, and I hear growls and whistling, and words,to look over and see BB beating the bee-jesus out of his toys for ten minutes or so.
Recently, when Amy is on her play top, where there are a number of toy's hanging from the perch, she is actively chewing/banging/swinging them to and frough.
Anyting that he manages to take apart,I manage to make another toy with "this and that".
When we go to our favorite pet store for whatever, and for Amy to visit his buddies the green armed Bee Bee's,we always stop at the toy section where I let him casually look what is available, and pick out what happens to float his boat at the time.

We ALL know toy's,be it for cat's or pooches,or birds is a racket! At time's I wish I had the materials to make my own to sell...I'd be a bazillionaire by now

I bought a bunch of pieces and parts from some online bird stores that I make toys out of. Fidget is a toy junkie and has never seen a toy that he didnt love to tear apart! I have made a bunch of them for him, but I have also found a couple of websites that has good toys for a very reasonable price. I buy lots of them from those two places. But now I have a ton of misc stuff, (birdie bagles, wood pieces, and a ton of misc other stuff that I may never use. (probably will eventually, but its so much easier to buy cheap ones!)

The sites I use most are Bonka Bird Toys. They have a half price sale on a few toys every week. I order some of them at least a couple of times a month and if its something I know he will love, I pick up a few. (ie, just ordered 8 things yesterday from them)

The other one is something I just came across but its got great deals! Feather Fantasy. I have placed 3 big orders from them in the last month and I have quite a few toys to last him awhile.

I'm guessing since I'm sorta new at this stuff that both those sites are common knowledge, but just in case someone doesnt know about them......

Not common knowledge to me!! Thanks for the info!

'Boats in our family we call that the"Mueller Learn As You Burn School of Flight". I am gonna DIY toys for ure when I get ack from Asia. Salty now takes oh.... 1 hour 45 min to totally destroy his favorite toys, might have een less for the last one. I stocked Geri up before I left with one per day. Jim, you should try one of those tubular stainless bells, that is Salty's favorite toy bar none, and he spends a few hours every day arguing with it. I think I might even have a spare one, I bought 3 on sale, and I gave one to Gails' RIckeybird, but he hates it too much LOL and it drives her nuts.

I miss the little guy already and it's only been 2 days. And nobody at my office here is a bird person, so,No they don't wanna see Salty pull the Kings from a deck of cards, or watch him push his little shopping cart around. Or understand why I miss him saying "Hi Daddy" when I get home.

I was looking at toys on Amazon last night and saw toy shopping carts, maybe six inches long, for five bucks or so. Are those too big? Looks like maybe a good source of tiny parrot trick things...

Had a nice Sykpe session with Mrs Wrench and Salty and my son Erik. All doing well, and Salty even gave the screen a kiss. Salty really loves my son, and likes to rub his head on his beard ( but no one can scratch Salty on the head except me ). Geri has him doing 75% of all his training session stuff, so thats good, to keep it up, and he continues to let her get closer and more intimate. Trip is 1/2 way over!
