I just received the most frightening cellphone call from a guy in S.A.

He asked me if I was interested in selling Mishka?

I told him No... NEVER EVER ... saying Mishka is not for sale and would never be.

He began bidding, offering me first R10 000, telling me he would happily pay R20 000. His final offer was R50 000, saying he would pay cash upfront.

I was curious and asked him, why Mishka?

He said Mishka is a bird in a million

He mentioned he has been following Mishka for almost two years. Noticed how much Mishka vocabulary has grown. He is amazed how intelligent he is. He would love the opportunity to make Mishka World Famous.

I said I am not intersted is selling Mishka, saying Mishka is my child, and would never part with him, not matter how much he was willing to pay.

I ended the converation saying thank you for the lovely compliments.

Even if I was down and out, broke and homeless, I would never ever consider selling my little boy.

I must say that would make me nervous too. Do your have a monitored alarm system in your home? DO NOT ANSWER THAT:eek:. But if you do not you might want to consider it. I know we have had one for many years after my relatives home was broken into while the daughter was sleeping and the mother was outside in the garden. Hubby came home and found the guy in the house the only damage thank god was her pocketbook was taken when the guy ran

Well.. What a cheek he has :11::11: He has obviously been following your vids on Youtube very carefully and decided he could make money out of Mishka:(

Some people obviously do not realize how much our Birds mean to us and cannot understand they do not come with a price tag!!

my response would've been; do you have any idea what it would feel like to have a bird tear one of your fingers off?

(I guarantee that's how one of my GW's would respond to a stranger trying to take them)

OMG so scary, I never allow people to visit my house and see my birds. You cant trust people and birds get stolen everyday. Maybe we all need to take up a collection to hire Mishka an armed guard- LOL. There are so many crazy stalkers on the internet. I had a weirdo show up at my home insisting I allow them to speak to my 11 year old son who is an actor. We dont have a home phone or a published address, we use a post office box, but some crazy family member had given out our address ( same family member who stole photos from our home ). This person wouldnt take NO for an answer and I had to call the sheriff , as a deputy was 20 minutes away, I made sure to keep the door locked and showed them my handgun thru the window. They still kept demanding to see him until the sheriff arrived and locked them up for trespassing. I now have a restarining order for this person. You can never be too safe !

 Oh that is just freakishly scary stuff!

How in the world did that person get your personal info? If he's been following Mishka on YouTube, he must clearly know just HOW much you love your Mishka!

OMG, I got the chills reading this, Ant. <shudders>

What nerve! And...excuse my English...what a heartless SOB. :(

And by the way, Mishka IS famous. :) He is your baby, and our Mishka, too. :)

That's $5,608.15 Canadian according to Google, pretty much the same in US dollars. Forgive my inquiry, but what do most CAG's go for where you are? Not that you would ever sell him, but doesn't that seem low for such an amazing bird?

I agree though, he is way to special to sell!

In one way, it's a compliment, in another, it's....well, he just doesn't understand the bond. He's only interested in the fame....

You could get another African Gray, say it's Mishka, sell him THAT one, get the cash, and when he complains he's not getting the same reactions that he would expect from Mishka, you can say, "Well, maybe he just doesn't like you! Sorry, all sales final!" Haha!

OMG Ant.... That is horrible. I would've been scared, and angry.

LOL! Nice doormat, WharfRat! :D

Someone in the reptile community here had an extra large carpet python who was more or less famous. He was worth very little, especially compared to some of the other snakes in the collection. Someone broke in and stole him! I dont remember how big he was... 10 foot or 12 foot or something unusually large. I think they stole him, for his sentimental value!!! Sometimes you think its the price tag, that they will resell whatever they steal. But sometimes they plainly want what you have.

Not that I'd steal anything but.....if I had a goal in mind for something to steal, it wouldn't be a 10-12 foot python!!!! LOL!

That is more scary than flattering really, considering what people are like. There are too many people who think it's their right to just take whatever they see that they feel compelled to have.

It was nice today (until the clouds moved in) so I took Jasper outside for some sunshine and fresh air. While sitting out there someone came down the road, slowed down and stopped opposite where I was. Made me a little nervous because I'm not too sure about some of the people here in the neighborhood.

Mishka's not a cow on a ranch, he's a pet and a member of your family. I don't get nor trust people who regard such creatures as nothing but property. I will be praying the guy isn't a nutjob and stops there.

that is terribly creepy!! like the others have said, lets hope he just stops at the phone call!!

as karigan stated, that is incredibly low for such an amazing boy!! its 5414.35 australian dollars, and we pay 4500 dollars for an african grey anyway.. for one as special as Mishka i think people would pay sooo much more- even though you would never sell him of course!!

People just dont understand that pets are family members, not just animals we sell to get money..

Same thing happened to me when i was little, i was riding my pony- would stand on his back and such, and someone offered my mum 7000 or 8000 dollars cash... we were just like, he is not for sale and never will be :/

lets hope its the end of that creepy guy! :D and Mishka is already famous and we know how incredible he is! :)

That is so scary!! :( Did he mention how he got your number? I hope thats the only info he has!

OMG what a fright she must have got, blessing that the daughter was not attacked or injured.

We do have an alarm system, thank God. The security in our complex is extremely safe. We have burglar bars everywhere.
One plus, our caretaker of the complex, keeps an eye out on Mishka during the day.

He could not undersand that I was refusing his offer, as he was offering a large amount.

Not all the money in the would would ever be enough for Mishka.

Mishka is a very friendly bird BUT only when I am around. I feel sorry for any stranger who would attempt to take him. He has the most frightening scream, when scrared. Not to mention his bite.

People sure have a way of getting their way, so to speak. Not even safe trusting family members !!!!!
If there is a world there is a way. Glad you got a restraining order.

How is your son's acting career going, I recall your post, and viewed bits of the movie he was in?

I never have stranger's in our apartment, and Steven knows the rules..

I never take Mishka out at all, only to the vet. He used to visit his girlfriend Jessie, but sadly she passed on in February this year.

When Mishka won that International Bird Talling Competition last year, he made headlines in all our National and local newspapers. Appeared on TV as well.
So many people recognized me, but I was very very careful.
Many people wanted to visit Mishka, and I refused.
