Oh yes... Parrots are expensive to keep, buying is just the beginning.
You are a great caretaker/ dedicated slave :) always the best for the bird...
Job well done!

Thanks Christa! You are too, I love how sunny is improving her wings and confidence!
Mambo is molting so he is even more bipolar than usually. He bites me strong to tell me to pet him, when I pet him he likes, then he bites again, etc etc. Amazons behaviour -.-“

Well so today I received that packet I was waiting for.
Apart of other things I received a little java playground to put in Mambos room.
I wanted to ask you what would be good to put at the bottom of the tree and how to put it. I ask this because all of the little playgrounds he’s had they had become “****” cause he poops (of course) on the floor and then a mark stays printed.

I’ve put some papers (see it in the pic) but each time he flies all the papers go flying, so I’m open to suggestions!

For the moment Mambo is scared of the tree lol but bit by bit he goes closer. It’s just 10 mins that I assembled the tree.

Also from the shop they gave me many things for free, one of them EASTER EGGS [emoji7]. I love chocolate even though I can’t eat it cause every time I eat I get some bucal aphtas (those painful things in the mouth) so I try to not eat. But receiving those chocolate Easter eggs made me sacrifice my mouth for the chocolate lol.

I tried everything for the aphtas to not come, or to leave faster when they are there, but nothing works. So I just learnt to live with it hhaha.

Going back to Mambo, he’s staying at the top of his cage door, staring at the tree and doing suspicious noises. I think he’s menacing him. Well “they” will get on well lol!

Cheers :p

Update: a Nutriberrie made him change his mind, now he loves the tree.

try this for the aphtas (we just call them "aften", 1 aft, multiple aften)

tastes like crap, burns a bit but it works for me.
Just follow the instructions about not eating/drinking anything for a certain amount of time.
Most shops that sell shampoo etc.etc. will sell it, no need to visit the apotheek.

the easiest way is clean the tree etc. is to remove every single dropping the moment it has left the bird....
Visit IKEA- buy those rolls of drawingpaper for kids? (Cheap and safe paper) You have one piece of paper instead of lots of little pieces. Weigh down on the corners with stones. (Also easy to clean.)

Oh I didn’t think in putting some stones, I’ll try it. I hope Mambo won’t eat them lol.
Already tried, it doesn’t work for me hahah it’s a problem I have since I’m kid, every time I eat chocolate I have that (I guess is an allergy or intolerance).

And yes I already own one of those paper rolles, it’s what I set on the bottom of his cage!

HE IS LOVINGGGGG the tree, he’s in love and exploring all its branches hahah

Very nice tree! Also, I love seeing Mambo, he’s such a mischievous looking young blue front:07::green::16:

So Kiwi has a play tree and I use paper, to line it but I cut the paper the size of the entire bottom. Then I fold the paper in half, cut along the line x-amount of inches (you’ll need to measure yours from the back edge to center where the tree is) to where the tree is positioned in the center and then cut a circle so it “wraps” around (if that makes sense). I also don’t feed Kiwi on his tree and since he spends less time on it, I only have to change the paper once a week instead of every other day like in his cage, so the time spent cutting a custom fit isn’t too bad. I generally clean poops on the tree itself the next morning, after they’ve dried. Wet bird poo smears all over. Dried, it can be chipped off with a paint scraper (that is dedicated to bird use and never contacted paint) and the small remaining amount cleaned off with vinegar and a rag. I also steam clean his tree, cage, perches.... everything every few months. I do not believe birds need sterile environments. People who keep their birds areas overly clean seem to have birds who get sick more often. The jungle isn’t clean at all, and a little poo and dirt in their space keeps their immune system in good shape. Also, they aren’t stupid and will not play with or eat their poop unless they are severely deficient in certain nutrients. And after they step in it once or twice, they will learn not to do so again!

hahah yesss he is!

Oh yeah, I understand, I would do the same. But Mambo is trained for going to poop there or in his cage, so I have to change the paper everyday. In anyway I think it’s a good idea the way you cut the paper and “wrap” it. I’ll try to do it and see if it doesn’t take too much time !!

This is Mambo right now, raging over that ball (he hates it)!!
While I was writing this sentence Mambo broke the ball and a piece hit my eye. This just remembered me how “dangerous” it can be when they are eating and all this things for our eyes, we have to be always careful!!!

Amazons do really love playing rough with toys! And ya, if he spends a lot of time in his tree, more frequent changing the paper would be advisable. Kiwis tree only gets maybe 10 poops over the course of an entire week, it’s his cage and portable perch that need paper changes every other day (he also eats in/on both so that makes a mess too). Actually, it’s the floor protector under his cage that gets the most poop. He tends to poop of the top of his cage onto the floor below (which is why I have a floor protector under it) and will in fact come out of his cage to poop:rolleyes:

Kiwi would annoy me[emoji23] I hate when they do this. Mambo doesn’t but I have a friend who is his poop perch. Every time he’s there and Mambo needs to poop he flies to him to do so

I’m missing Mambo right now.
I’m doing an internship so I work 6-7 hours 4 days a week. When I have nothing to do, like right now, I check the security cameras in my house to look for Mambo. He’s so cute, he is always playing, breaking things, climbing, etc... so yeah, I miss him while I’m at work hhah
That’s actually all I have to say lol I’m so bored that I post something hhahhh
Good evening to everyone!! I hope that your birdies are doing alright!

The Rb's weight varies from 245 down to 230, according to time of day and other stuff, and has for 30 years... his average is 233-237. The vet says it's okay. Gee, I'd like to run that by an avian vet near you. Can you Google up an avian vet in your locale?

Feather troubles... I'm not sure that cage issues would be my first thought. Diet? General health? Another reason for a vet... I know... I tend to harp on that!

As for behavior... if I were you, I'd re-visit the Amazon stickies. They're so full of wisdom. Every time I look, I see something new.

:)

My vet told me he’s overweight:/
And his diet is good, he doesn’t have any feather problem. He just stick his back to the wall of the cage and try to somehow escape ..so he breaks his feathers. But he doesn’t have any health issue

Jose :)

I know I'm answering to a 2018 thread/post but anywho.. Amy must be a monster compared to Mambo  He is in the low 500g range ( 510-520). At his heaviest he was 548! The lowest his "adult" weight was 484g's ( I have had Amy almost 30 years now, picked me to go home with when he was four months old).
Honestly I think Mambo's doctor is a quack, "over weight"? I don't think so.

I thought the same... but it’s true that mambo is really little, I saw many blue fronted amazons not long time ago and mambo is considerably smaller than them. He’s 9 months old, maybe he’ll grow more? No idea, anyway he looks healthy and happy! 335g :)
