Hello!
Today mambo has been really agressive, he broke my skin 3 or 4 times...
any idea of these changes? Is it normal? He was perfect yesterday..

Jose :)

Could be hormone time for Mambo,Jose'! how old is he?

Jim

Ohhhh...only 6 months old ehh? Well that wouldn't be hormones then! At six months he is probably "pushing the limits" on how far he can go and what he can get away with! It's time to let Mambo know who the boss is and what will be tolerated and what won't.

Long time I didn’t update anything about Mambo!!
He is doing really fine, not really biting anymore (he stills have his days though).

He been really kind, calm and lovely lately. Annoying me of course, breaking my already wrapped gifts, breaking eggs, making holes in water and milk bottles.....

I’m sure you are shocked about the eggs.. let me explain you, when I go to the supermarket and buy eggs (to cook of course) he gets really excited, I don’t really know what he has with the eggs but he plays so much with them that he gets angry. So when this moment arrives he flies up to the roof and fly back down like a hawk to break the egg... of course the egg breaks, and everything becomes a MESSSSS!!!!

Water and milk bottles... I don’t really know how he does this [emoji29] I would understand if they were tetrabricks but it’s not the case. I really buy regular bottles, but somehow he manages to make a hole on the bottom (of course, it couldn’t be on the top -.-) of the bottles, so all the liquid goes out... what a parrot lol.

OOH BY THE WAY!! I don’t really know how neither, but he can imitate the cats. I don’t have any cat, and I don’t think that he has seen any cats, but one day that he bit me, I punished him and walked away. A few moments later he started doing “meow” “meow” “MMEEEEEOOOIWWWW!!!!”. And now (1 week after he started) he does the cat every time.. he really sounds like a cat, and if I search for cat videos and put them for him, he will meow back.
So yeah, another thing I can’t explain [emoji29][emoji29][emoji29].

He stills taking spoons when he’s hungry, he stills opening the tap when he’s thirsty, he stills pulling my hair out when he need to poop, and of course he stills growling when he doesn’t want something.

Nothing else for the moment!! I hope you enjoy reading my diary!

Actually yes! Any advice to make him go and walk on the floor? He’s scared, once I put him on the floor he directly after flies to me or somewhere higher.

I’m gonna add 2-3 pics of him, as usual!
In case anyone wants to see more pics and videos of Mambo, I leave you a link!
I’m also thinking in doing a “blog” about his life and adventures, I’ll keep you informed in case I do it!!

Mambo certainly sounds like a mischievous young blue front! Like a little toddler going through the 'terrible twos'. On the bright side, at least he's nice and active and undoubtedly keeping you nice and active as well:D He certainly LOOKS really adorable in the pictures and like he's be no trouble at all;)

Hey!! After some time I’m back!!

Today I wanted to ask something about Mambo. It’s 2 or 3 days that I see that he discovered that he can go back to his cage by himself. He goes inside, he eats, he plays with his toys, etc...
The problem is that he stays inside his cage, he doesn’t come out anymore. He doesn’t have any symptom of being ill or anything, he doesn’t stay in his cage all fluffed up. He just stays inside his cage eating, playing with toys, climbing... any idea of what this could mean?
I have the feeling that he likes being there cause when I take him out, he sometimes doesn’t want to come out.
I don’t know if he prefers his toys rather than me or what lol.

Do you think he needs more toys outside or more attention or something??
Right now he’s on my shoulder. He has been inside his cage for like 20-30 minutes and it’s me who took him out. (I sometimes think that he doesn’t know how to go back outside??)

Well I don’t know, just explaining this and I hope someone can give me an explanation or something for this behaviour.

Apart of that everything is perfect, he doesn’t really bite anymore, he’s cuddly, he has his bipolar days of course, he flies everywhere....

Happy to be back!!

I think he just wants to play by himself :)

You guys are so much fun together- but I must say I rather hear that the bird loves to be 'in his house' than read about a frustrated parrot thats want to be "out" and on his human all the time.

All my parrots will take time to go back in the cage and 'do stuff' there.
Sunny is particularly bad: during the day she really wants out/ first thing in the morning, but usually only to climb in the cage next door and just sit there...
If something interesting happens she will be out in no time to investigate.

Well I’m happy that you think it’s nothing bad, it makes me feel better haha!
And yeah it’s true that I also prefer that, but I was quite worried..

Hello hello!

In need of a little help haha.

Well so Mambo is ALL THE TIME on me. I leave him somewhere, I walk 2m away and he flies to me... if he’s eating he will stop eating and fly to me, if he’s playing he will fly with his toy to me, etc... if I take him to put him somewhere, he will climb to my shoulder, he doesn’t stay on my hand almost never..

I wanted to know if any of you have any tip on how to make him stay somewhere or at least to not come ALL the time to me.
I like that he comes to me, it means he likes me I suppose, but sometimes it’s annoying.. I can’t leave the room and do my bed cause he would fly to me and annoy me all the time -.-, I can’t go to the toilet either cause he would also fly to me.

The only 2 ways I can make him stay are:
1.- if I run and close the door lol.
2.- if I close him in his cage.

I don’t want to be doing this always, I’d like him to enjoy his perches or something hahah.
So yeah, I’m open to ANYTHING that helps me!

Thanks [emoji16]

Jose :)

Hahahaha, so he changed his mind about the cage?

I get stalked all the way to the toilet as well (Japie is just waiting for the flush-sound I think), so no advise for you there. ;)

You can work on the "stay" command - but it will take some time.
You teach the bird that there are some perches he can only leave when you come and pick him up or (more difficult) only if you ask him to come over.

Yeah, I forgot to mention this. When he is in his cage, he will fly out the cage (and of course hit his wings) and come to me -.-...
He also learnt to go inside his cage flying, and as he’s SOOO clumsy, he always hit his wings.

He also learnt to dive bomb btw, when he sees a blonde girl, dive bomb attack. It’s funny though.

And Mambo also waits for the flush, when he hears it he starts shouting cause he knows I’m coming.

I’m trying the stay command but doesn’t look like it’s working AT ALL..

Jose :)

It is one of the most difficult thing for a parrot to learn (I think).
They may be as smart as a young child, but they are just as impatient most of the time.

Start small: stay for 10 seconds -> reward, stay for 20 seconds -> reward

It is f.e. how Salty learned to tolerate the harness ( http://www.parrotforums.com/amazons/62937-right-now-salty-101.html ): huge rewards for a small step in the beginning... later when the new trick had become a bit of a habbit you offer less/ smaller rewards ...

If your parrot can wait for you for a long time...he is a genious.
If your parrot stops flying off when you ask him to stay: huge first step!!
Always make sure you correct him before lift-off, you can see it in his eyes and posture he want to fly-> that is where you ask him "stop" or "stay" (or whatever command you like)

Wow- already stuntflying in/ out the cage... he is really treating his "home cage" as his nest.... interesting birdie :)

Okay, I’ll try it !

I somehow think that he is hyper intelligent. We have really smart birds, like we have a cockatoo who asks for eat, sleep, for mom (my mom), she can turn on lights[emoji23] that’s quite funny you suddenly see lights on and off..
But I somehow think that mambo is gonna “outsmart” (I don’t know if that word exists) all of them.
He is already amazing opening taps etc... so we will see, let’s see if it’s a little Einstein

Whoever says parrots are not expensive he’s wrong !!

So i had to buy a new java playstand for mambo cause he has pink marks in the bottom of his foot and I think it’s cause his play stand has just stating branches.
I had to buy that, vet wrap, Harrison’s, nutriberries, etc.....
I spent so much that I feel bad[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] but well, anything for his health!

Jose :)

Oh yes... Parrots are expensive to keep, buying is just the beginning.
You are a great caretaker/ dedicated slave :) always the best for the bird...
Job well done!
