Can I say it out loud ?
(mean it in the best possible sense)

You are both adorable! :)

Hannah, there are no words! Your Sunny *adores* you! He could have played in the rain on the ground or on a tree or the fence. He didn't! He hung onto you for every second! He's *so* beautiful (so are you) and a credit to the great start you've given him in life. Thank you so very much for sharing his story with us. I wish he could meet Rosetta and pass on a few of his good manners to her.

I do love his salmon pink feathers too. They give him that indefinable air of je ne sais quoi, don't you think? I wish there were some way for him and 'Setta to meet and have pics taken. LOL! What a hoot that'd be.

I envy you the rain... When it rains here, we get a quick deluge and then ten or twelve days of dreadful heat and humidity. I have to use artificial rain for 'Setta and the Beaks (hose set on 'mist'). They all send their regards to their handsome friend, Sunny. :)

Hannah that was so awesome! Loved watching Sunny taking a shower with you! You have done very well with him, that is one happy bird!
I'd make a wager and say that he is going to stay around for a long, long time!
Please keep the updates/pics/vids coming :D

Thank you Betrisher! I love him just as much as he loves me, fills me with joy!
His colour is gorgeous isn’t it! He currently has quite a few pin feathers so his feathers are getting even more prominent and beautiful.

We’ve had hardly any rain for a few months, it’s been dreadfully dry and hot it started to cool down last week with a few days of good much needed rain. This weekend was quite hot so the 20 minutes of rain we had yesterday morning was a delight to Sunny,..and the rest of the birds..and the horses!

Oh I wish ‘Setta and Sunny could meet too! Would be so sweet to see them together. Australia is too big!

What a magnificent video!! I demand a Hannah and Sunny TV channel!!!! :D

Haha Sunny would be the star of the show:D

Thank you Jim, it means a lot. Especially as he’s the first bird I’ve ever taken care of.

Hello everyone!

Sunny is happy and well! I’ve had my first full day out from the farm at the weekend since having Sunny, I’ve always been too worried to leave him for more than 5 hours (since living out the Aviary..and when in the Aviary I wouldn’t leave him cooped up for more than 3!) on Saturday I left at 8 am and didn’t see him before I left and got back at 9pm so didn’t see him then either!
Of course, Sunday morning he came down from the sky to great me and looked just fine hehe. In fact I was out most of today too except I saw him in the morning for cuddles and food, and he greeted me the second I got home at 6, he must have been waiting in a tree for me haha.

I had a massive panic and scare with him on Monday, it was awful. So the young girl who lives here was sitting and playing with Sunny, he was being amused by a pen, hanging on to it as she lifted him up. Then suddenly he looked a bit odd and quiet, flopping his tounge either side of his beak with his head down. I took a look in his mouth and I THOUGHT his tounge was sliced in half hanging off!! I FREAKED, I screamed and held my hands up to my face in horror running off a few steps in sheer panic that Sunny was going to have to be put to sleep instantly, I couldn’t cope. My good friend (kids mum) ran over to sunny to check, the poor kid also freaking out that it’s all her faualt she’s hurt him. Sunny doesn’t usually let her stoke him but this time he was which made me even more concerned. But she quickly reassured me that she couldn’t see anything wrong and that she thinks it’s just the design of the tounge, dropping at the back. I pulled myself together to go and look and yes she was right..Sunny was totally fine, I was so embarrassed and apologised for scaring the crap out of them both  I felt anxious the rest of the day with my heart in my chest!

Sunnys new favourite thing is eating horse poop :33: he joins me in mucking out the horse yards in the morning and finds himself digging in the wheelbarrow!

Sunny is our new pin-up boy. He is *gorgeous*! I love the photos of him on the wheelbarrow and among the roses. So cute!

What do you feed your horses? Maybe there's grain in their poop? Or maybe he's picking out dung beetles for nourishment? See if you can tell what it is he's hunting for - could be useful info. ;) I *so* miss my horses! Aside from everything else, there's nothing as good as horse-poop for your roses. :)

Hahaha...Sunny looks possessed in the roses!!

What a scare indeed, Hannah. Had to check my Goffin's tongue (similar species) to view what you may have seen. They are definitely different from mammal's tongues, having an odd construction. Glad to know Sunny is just fine!

Note to self... don't kiss Sunny after grazing in the horse poop! :D

Outstanding pics, keep them coming please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feed on just hay, so he is eating little grass seeds and tiny chomped up hay pieces, and I feel like he enjoyed the texture of it throwing and digging it about, just for fun :D

It really was a scare Scott, I was besides myself! Yes they do have odd tounge constructions, fascinating creatures!

I do tell him to whilst he’s scrapping about in the poop to not come and give me a kiss after.. he doesn’t listen! :p

Hello everyone!

Sunny is happy and healthy, still being half wild and half completely un-wild!:p

Apart from costing me a few hundred dollars in a repair bill.. see my last thread!. He is busy leading a double life, he’d been quite along the past few days only stopping by for a quick hello or munch before flying off again to be a wild bird. I was really starting to think this is it, Sunny is going to be ‘wild’ very soon. He isn’t going to want his mumma much anymore, maybe I can stop worrying about him hanging around the farm so much with the potential dangers around.

But no I was wrong haha! The last 2 days Sunny is stuck to my hip, comes in the morning (even though I no longer give him breakfast in the hope he will stay with the other birds foraging in he mornings etc) and will follow me around wanting attention and scratches, and just my company in general. He likes to just potter about on the floor picking up grass seeds around me as I do horsey things.

He has also started tapping at the front door!! Or just sits there staring in waiting for me to slide it open so he can waddle inside :18: he hardly ever comes inside anymore as it’s not good for his wild education, as you can imagine lol! But a have let him a couple of times in the past week or so, just for a little play or some water. Then off out he goes.. well he just sits on the veranda waiting for me.

Apart from all this he is actually doing incredibly well at learning to be a wild Corella. His flying skills are now spot on, watching him see me from the sky and then swoop down on the spot doing amazing wing movements is great to see! I also I’ve spotted/heard him way up high with huge flocks which is incredible to think he is up there after being on the brink of death just a couple of months ago.

I’ve said he spends a lot of time following me about in the day but he does spend a huge amount of time with the other birds roosting in the trees during their day time siesta. And I know he spends his early mornings with them eating on the hills and paddocks, and the evening feed just before he goes off with them to bed (and after spending time with me)

I’d say it’s been a good few weeks now that he has started talking Corella, he use to only make one funny sound when calling for me ( except his excited playful singing). He still uses that when he spots me or if I call out for him, but he also now knows all the other sounds to talk to his wild friends :D

I still weigh him occasionally, just to check he is coping okay with less seed from me. And he is, his weight is slowly increasing. He’s a good weight for his age.

Here are some more photos and also a video of him last night, leaving me to go to bed with his friends :07:

Hannah, I downright could not do what you're doing with Sunny! You must have a heart as big as all outdoors. Watching him fly off to roost gave me such a lump in my throat: I can't imagine how *you* feel watching him go and not knowing if he'll come back. Bless you for your selfless work with this marvellous bird! If there's any natural justice, you'll be successful in everything you do. You certainly deserve it!

Also, that's a lot of 'roos you have there. Are they coming onto your paddocks because of the drought, or is that the usual population? We don't often see so many here in Central Coast, NSW, except in the foothills or closer to the forested areas where they can hide during the day. Do you know what kind they are? We get Eastern Greys and Red-necked Wallabies around here. Fathern north, you can see the gorgeous big Red Kangaroo, especially on the New England tablelands. I *love* watching them bounding over the plains, hopping fences in their stride as if there were nothing in their way. They're beautiful animals! :)

Oh Betrisher it is so hard, but I feel so much better about everything with him lately, I don’t feel as stressed when I’m out all day as I know he’s quite capable of looking after himself and joining the wild birds . It makes me emotional everytime when I watch him fly off to join his friends to roost or feed, I get happy butterflies in my stomach.. it brings joy to my heart watching him
do so well and be wild like he should be.
My whole life revolves around animals, I love them all so much and I strive to do the best for every animal that comes into my life.

There is quite a few roo’s and wallabies about at the moment, there always is but yes it is rather dry around now so they seem to be hopping a little further into the paddocks than normal. We have a plantation straight behind us and there are LOTS in there, then behind the plantation we have state forest so lots and lots :D I know the kangaroos are eastern-greys, I’m Unsure what the wallabies are, I think swamp wallabies? All very cute and welcome! In fact a year or so ago I rescued a Roo that failed at jumping through the fence, he was stuck and hanging. I managed to free him and get a wildlife rescue out to him.
We also have beautiful deer that graze on the property too :)

This is like our own personal Lifetime movie. I love it. And I agree with Bertrisher, your selflessness is astounding.

You are beyond amazing, Hannah! Giving Sunny a choice rather than reflexively keeping him as companion is astoundingly selfless. Please keep those amazing pics and videos coming!! Can't get enough of Sunny!!

Hi everyone!

Sunny sunny sunny... what do I do about you.

Sunny is doing great, he’s a very happy parrot.

I’m concerned though, if I can’t get him to spend more time away from the farm and me within the next couple of weeks I’m going to have a big dilemma about how to look after him. It’s not safe for him living the way he does, there are too many dangers of him being comfortable wondering around in the paddocks on his own etc. I can’t keep an eye on him 24/7, and I’m scared to death of him being taken by a dog or wedge-tailed eagle.
On Monday I was so pleased because I didn’t see him until the evening which was a brief ‘fly-in’. I thought it was great he’d finally decided not to come back in the mornings. But alas since Tuesday he’s stuck around all days until the last moment to go off to roost for the night. We’ve had a horse clinic on this week which has been even harder to encourage him to leave as there are so many people around and I’ve been too busy to take him off to the Corella trees.
He’s been sitting on my head while trying to train a wild horse!:p:rolleyes:which isn’t overly helpful!
I love him so so much, and I hate to be angry at him for not flying off to the Corellas but I’m starting to get stressed and upset about it again as he only has a small window of opportunity left to become more wild. I’m thinking I may have to give him tough motherly love..start chasing/scaring him away from me. I’m guessing mother animals in the wild would just one day get sick of there child following them about and just tell them too p*ss off. It’s going to be hard and upsetting but I think it will be the only way?
It’s fustrating as I’ve watched him many times go off with the Corellas and seen him grazing with them, he knows how to be wild. He knows the danger calls when an eagle is about, he knows where to get water and food. And he knows how to socialise. He just loves being with his mum :(

Here are some photos of my little poppet over the past week
