Right now Salty is.....

The bird really does look like he's got a sh*t eating grin on his face, in that very sweet parroty way! And his coloring and vibrance of his feathers is outstanding! I'm so jealous, Sassy look like a street urchin in comparison. Her feathers are always so banged up and tattered!

Oh aren’t they funny about food tho? [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] totally good snobs but they love what they love!

Keep your pictures and bring them out next year this time...
You will be comforted and overjoyed by the change in Sassy's feathering!
In three years, you will find it hard to believe that today's photos are of your Sassy.

Enjoy...

Honestly, I think I could pick Salty's grin out ANYWHERE, ANY TIME, in any line-up of YSAs...

Well thanks folks! If anything Salty is grinning becasue he is not ACTUALLY washing anything, but gets credit for helping ! Same as over the summer when he was "helping "me fix my bike. Asfar as his feathers, wait until his present heavy molt is over; he will be resplendent.

His High Resplendentness refused several tricks tonight and only did the ones he likes to do. Snooty lil so and so. But yeah , he was smilin'.

Just a short video of Salty hangin out in his coconut halves. He loves to play out of them.

Tonight !! Salty sunk 4 balls in a row, in the corner pocket. So proud of his progress on this trick, soon I'll be able to give him a whole rack of balls to work with. And we have been doing his training with the new parrot bicycle sitting there , in one corner of the table, to get him comfortable with it being there. Tonight he went over to it to explore a few parts of it ( pedals, handlebar and frame); I think we might be ready to try and situate him on the pedals in a week or so.

Got a fresh load of chew toys yesterday, and he buzzsawed through 1 toy in les than 1 day ! Is he part macaw???

Wowee, Salty stood on the pedals of his birdie bike, two times, tonight. It's been on the training table for a week, so he is curious about it. Won't be long, I predict, before he is scooting across the table. He's sooo smart!

I wouldn't be surprised if your prediction proved right, myself. Salty really is a smart one!

Maybe there’s a distant cousin somewhere.

This is a video of tonight's training session with Salty. I tried to get every trick in, but he knows so many now that it would not be prudent to give that many pine nuts, even little bits of them, to him in one session. Usually we only do a small set of them; some, like the opening and closing tricks we'll do a few reps just to make sure he knows we are starting or stopping and some he just enjoys so much, like the rings, that we'll do a few times. I left off his work in progress, the birdy bicycle in the background. We also left off his peekaboo trick, and the animal trick where we have 10 different small plastic animals and birds and he has to pick the right one when asked for them.

Working with Salty is so rewarding, for both of us. It has allowed me to understand how smart parrots are, how to better know how their minds work and has really bonded myself to him and he to me. He knows that come 8:45, religiously, the TV goes off, I set the 'stage' up and it's TTT (trick training time); we only miss maybe a dozen or so nights in a year. He loves to show off even if it's only Geri watching.

After reading some of the excellent articlesand papers Laurasea has posted in her Orinthology thread, I;ve decided to try and teach Salty to read. Yes, read. First up is letter identification and association with sound pictures, like A for apple, B for bannana and so forth. Other articles confirm what I have learned from Salty - parrots love to learn new things, and their strongest associations take place when the knowledge is new and fresh.

This is going to be interesting.

Comparing Salty and the Rbird is like comparing Joe Kennedy III to Charlie Manson........................ are they even the same species? You go Salty, you're our torch-bearer. After you earn to read you can run for President.

Yellow-Nape Law, North America, would fully support such a future undertaking. Salty is still a bit young, but when he reaches the minimum age requirement, his future is his to define. Hmmm, State Governor.............now there's a starting point... 'Governor Salty' yes, it has a ring to it... After six years as governor, it's straight to the White Home!!!

Salty's ever expanding platform of actives will out shine any container...

We can begin by working the feathered base. He’s a shoo-in. We can have the macaws do a flyover on Inauguration Day!

Salty is becoming like a Minnesotta Fats with his little pool table. He is up to 7 balls now, all in the corner pocket! Bicycle training is slow going. He is eager to get on it, but foot placement is the hard part, he tends to stand on the frame instead of the pedals, so he only gets the reward when he does the correct foot placement.

And A is for Apple, B for banana.
