Gail, you'll like this one. As I was getting preped for leaving the hosp, one of the nurses asked me if I wanted this non-stick pad they had applied to my ass ( to prevent bed sores ) removed. I said unless it has USDA Grade AAA on it I want it off like now! Us Rooosters have some standards we have to uphold, ya know?

Got home, rested for awhile, and grabbed Salty for a little toy shopping expedition -I have been away from him so long the toy box is looking bare and empty. I love watching him tear into a bag of new toys, especially ones that he picks out himself. Hee, hee Gail, he found himself a smaller thinner welded bell. Lets see how long Mrs Wrench lets him keep that one.

It takes a while even after you kick the infection to fully recover from pneumonia, like a few months. (I've been there) So please keep taking care of yourself and rember you are healing. Salty and new toys sound wonderful.

So glad to hear you're home (again!) and back to your old tricks with Salty! Now let's endeavor to keep your USDA Grade AAA nonstick padded arse out of the hospital going forward, clear?

I'm not above adding Maya to Christa, Inger and Abigail's hit squad. (Jolly's never bitten a soul, so he didn't make the cut.)

If that doesn't get the job done I'll send in the Texas Volunteers:eek:

I've never been to NY or NJ. This could get REAL interesting.

Nothing but love for you, Salty, and the rest of the family. But don't make me come up there!:D

Here's an idea - an Annual Spring time, I survived the Winter Interstate Parrot Play Date. I get a great deal on a hotel 30 min from Hartford Ct airport, like A $69 RATE , PET FRIENDLY and they throw in one of 4 convention rooms for every 20 rooms we book. Its the same one we use for the Pirate's Salty Balls every year. We take over the entire hotel, all 81 rooms.

You would need recent CAV health documents, and we could have all sorts of fun and games, maybe even a few classes and workshops?

Oh...yes, hardly out of hospitals and planning a party!!
Way to go!

Gotta love them pirates, right?

If I stumble on someones buried treasure by that time I'll come over :D
(I would love to meet you all in the flesh anyway)

Sound like a hoot!

I have been laying low lately, just reading posts and not really being that active here. Every once n a while I come to realize how lucky we are to have Salty in our lives. He is so much a perfect parrot, for us. He chills out in the AM until he gets up and un covered at10 AM, gets his breakfast, and then he plays with his footietoys in the bottom of his cage, throwing hem around, fighting with them and even playing with them on his back ( very un Amazon -like), like a conure or caique. he comes out and gets lunch around 1;30 or so, and will play on his hanging garden of toys ( ceiling chain ) chewing up the latest toy offerings, or revisitng some of his favorites that have not been destroyed yet. His tubular bell is aconstant play thing and he hs a toy made from 2 coconut halves he will sit in and play. Usuallly he is totally quiet when he does this, though sometimes that bell neeeds to be taken down a notch or 2. Salty will invite you to play with him by hanging by one toe and looking around for you. When he does this, he never ever bites har , just mouths your fingers. He is almost impervious to Amazon overload, and he gives a lot of warning if he is getting overexcited. Salty loves his evening meals, usually defrosted chop, with some Avicake mixed in. Thats the only time he gets really vocal , is when dinner is a cooking. Singing, calling the dog, telling us he is a pretty bird, or agood boy, saying his name, and all sorts of things he hears from Youtube. And laughing - he has many different laughs, sme funny, some are down right evil sounding. Salty learnd the "A-Bomb" - desending whistle and explosion at the end. He loves to sing his version of "Little Brown Jug" . He always eats with us, as a family, which I think is important with Amazons. We are his flock and he is a member. Then he mellows out again until it is trainng time. We might go through 20-25 tricks, maybe consentrate on a few new ones, but he loves all of them. I have never worked with an animal that learned things so quickly. He is so darn cute doing some of them, like playing xylophone and sining along with it, or just rolling over - you can see he is a proud little parrot as he struts around the coffee table. Then its time for a drink of water (and I have t hold the bowl up to him ) a bit more chow, and then its roosting time for 20-30 minutes as all the lights are darkened, and then off the bed around 10 PM. I read about some problem parrots and I thank the Lord for giving us Salty.

That’s amazing I love hearing of Salty. I believe a lot of how our parrots behave is a reflection of their environment as well as their own temperament. Salty is perfect for you and you for him. He’s a blessing from heaven i agree.

I would slowly adjust the bed and waking time for your flock, and use a dark almost light proof cover. We have 2 , a summer and a winter one, diff weights of cloth. Try adjusting by 10 minutes a day, maybe even less. It is a joy to be able to sleep in, and it gives you more evening time to spend with your birds.

And thank you, Salty IS an amazing Amazon.

It's also a testament to you are your family Al..the love and devotion and time you give the little green dino..take a bow buddy ;)

Wonderful advice!!! Ugh my Penny won't tolerate be covered, I think in her previous home this was done as punishment for screaming or just neglected to take off...if I cover her she starts screaming and pulling out her feathers with her feet....it's just terrible...

You can also adjust the lighting level in the room by reducing the number of lights on or using a dimmer to reduce the level of light. Remember our eyes have a greater range of light that their eyes will adjust too. It will also aid in your falling to sleep easier.

It is always to your benefit to be mindful of how your Parrot react to different objects as we never know what occurred in their prior life. Very good point regarding the connection of screaming and being covered.

You are right Sailboat I could approach this differently, like black out curtains,mmm...to sleep in...the joy! Sorry Wrench and Salty for walking all over your thread!

With the Cozy Covers my brother got for Amy and BB I have noticed a considerable amount of "calm and quiet",especially with Beebs. David is up at 5:30am to get ready for work, the living room where the fids are is dark butv he does put on a kitchen light to make coffee etc. he has said they don't make a peep. I get up about 8 and I don't hear a sound from either until I go turn on the music and uncover them. I really thing they like the covers.

No sweat Laurasea. We have insulating drapes on all the windows, which are also blackout curtains. I control the light in our house - me - mwuhahh!!!! I can see where a cover is not the answer in every case.
I feel sorry for your Penny, what a terrible way to treat her.
