Wait a minute?.. You're saying SHE?! Did I miss something Well congrats on your GIRL Joe!!!
So, what's the name??? Hurry and give us a name!!! I'm dying to know

Hi Julie, The DNA kit is sitting right here next to me, I don't want to be selfish and just do it ASAP, trying to give her time to settle in first
(I don't think there will ever be a "good" time, so give me a few more days LOL)

Wait a minute?.. You're saying SHE?! Did I miss something Well congrats on your GIRL Joe!!!

So, what's the name??? Hurry and give us a name!!! I'm dying to know

We're guessing at this point, but she is on the smallish side for a GW.

Ohh, I see... That cute face and head sure looks large tho . Can't wait to hear official results. All of my males are on the really small side for their species.

I am just trying to hedge my bet
(next week I'll start calling her HIM again LOL)

So adorable! You must be over the moon with "her". When will you find out the gender again? We're all waiting....

The finger braking is an affection thing. Kiwi does that to (my) Joe. He could play with his daddys hand for hours You've lucked out with this beauty/sweetheart!

Aww, that's so nice to know April, I could just picture it !!
(or you could....Hint Hint...)
BTW, Love the Text in your Sig !!

How awesome! s/he is great.. Love the mushy pile of feathers..

Thanks Ash !! "mushy pile of feathers" LOL I know right? Here are some Pics Sittin with Rissa at her computer

Aw (in absence of a name) the big red bird looks so happy with Rissa! Those are some seriously sweet pictures. That is going to be such a happy and well adjusted (and thoroughly spoiled) bird! Any thoughts into boys/girls names yet;)? A lot of people associate the beaking with babies, but I think happy adults do it too. Why not? So long as they are being gentle and it is a "happy" behavior, why not allow it?:)

In my last post I *meant* beaking, which was autocorrected to braking lol. I assure you Kiwi does not break fingers (well, I'm sure he could, but not his daddy's he doesn't!). He actually finds Joes fingers to be a favorite toy, and does this all the time. I took these a while ago. It looks so savage, but he's actually being very gentle...

Kiwi doesn't play with my fingers, but he will occasionally play with my toes. What he really likes is when I wear my hair up in a bun so when he's on the back of the couch, he comes and beaks the hair clip and makes squealy/happy noises into my ear:52:

Griffin is VERY beaky! I was thinking it was only a baby thing, yet I've had young parrots who didn't do it at all. I did notice Griffin is trying to "experiment" with a little harder bite too. He knows what the word "gentle" means with a finger softly above the top of his beak, and he will stop most times. Sometimes he will lunge out, and I don't want that being a habit to turn into more aggressive behavior when he's older, so he also knows what "no biting" means, and I won't pick him up until he steps up like a good boy without lungeing. If he still bites he goes in his cage for a short time out. He's been relatively easy to train. Griffin is very smart, and overall not too stubborn for a parrot. I could see that an older one who was set in their ways could be more stubborn. I will keep it in mind though, about the gentle beaking being a friendly gesture.

Looks very familiar.

Like I said, properly socialized, this is how they are, and they pretty much stay like this... unless someone comes along and seriously screws things up.

But this one has literally walked in and instantly become both part of the family, and the center of attention...

And for a macaw it doesn't get any better than being the center of attention!

It looks like she/he is settling in quite nicely!! :) Those photos are so cute!

Guess what Uncle Joe? Hawkie is on his way today! :)

Seriously, this bird needs a name. It drove me nuts until we settled on Zoe.

I'd say Zoe has our hands or whatever body parts in her mouth more than she doesn't. She's just super mouthy. I don't mind it. As far as I know that's pretty common with macs.

Sydney, out of my 2 sennies, is very mouthy as well, but instead of just holding a finger or whatever he loves to gently nip or scrape his beak on me. As long as he stays gentle I let him.

He are now working on a list of names!! Here is what we have so far:

BOY
====
Javaé -- indigenous tribe from Brazil
Ember

GIRL
====
Aranã -- indigenous tribe from Brazil
Arara -- has two meanings 1) indigenous tribe from Brazil and 2) Portuguese word for macaw
Akasha
Aisha
Daphne
Ember
Farrah
Mina

Once Marks says its a good thing it just confirms what we already feel
(Why not? So long as they are being gentle)

Aww, thanks for sharin that LOVE IT!! You are VERY lucky to be able to do that, My Poe would nib anything put into his mouth (except kisses)

I could see that an older one who was set in their ways could be more stubborn. I will keep it in mind though, about the gentle beaking being a friendly gesture.

My Poe was really set in his ways!!

Even the girl at the bird farm said it is very important to keep letting her beak us so she remembers everything about it as she gets older

Thanks Mark!!

The hand feeding is going GREAT, I got a 60 cc syringe and feed her in the morning and at night, She is VERY Funny, at night she really wants it for bed and takes at least 60 cc

But in the morning she does not "really" want it LOL at first I figured ok she doesn't want it in the morning BUT she lets me know she does want it and gets very vocal!! she refuses to eat her "real" food till I give her the baby food

So then I feed her and she seems to just be going through the motions, after a small sip she walks to the other end of my table and looks at her cage, I put her in the cage and she starts eating the real food

At night she goes to bed with at least 1/2 crop full, in the morning it is completely empty and flat
In the morning she goes back to her cage to eat with a very small amount in her crop

She does "twitch" her wings at me to tell me she wants baby food, it is a VERY distinct action

Here is a pic and GREAT video of the BEST Rissa Lovins !!
EDIT: The Cat comes over to snuggle Rissa.... SURPRISE

I am SO VERY glad I read this because I was looking at that place as a possible place to get exactly that bird and I was worried that it wasn't a good place to buy from. Man am I ever grateful you posted this!!! I'll read back over this as soon as we get back from town to find out all the details. Congrats on your new baby! Absolutely gorgeous!

Love hearing about all these Tactile Parrots !!

I was sitting at creating the post above for like 2 hours and got post jumped Karen, there is a cuddles video with the cat coming up and a partial list of names LOL

Talk about a bird being mesmerized?! I'd say this bird qualifies as a "well loved greenwing."

Once again, it's a pity these birds are such feathered buzz saws, huh?!

And yeah, I've never really been around a mac that wasn't tactile...

Maggie's the same way. Head sideways under the chin. And when you hit the right spot, she'll grab your thumb with her beak and hold your hand in that position...

Looks like the cat was feeling a little left out.

Poor naked kitty! Lol my Maltese are the same way. They come up and look at us like, "That's my lap, but I'm afraid of the beak!"

FWIW I also vote for Ember.

I LOVE the Rissa snuggling video. Love seeing him/her lay that head right on her and snuggle in. And the kitty is so cute and curious :)

I vote for Ember, since its on the boy and girl list...and its super adorable. :)

I like Ember, Arara and Farrah. My son's GCC is named Blaze because it was on his boy / girl list and he couldn't stand waiting any longer for the DNA results to come in.

I see you're like me.. your girl list is huge and your boy list is so small. I'm having a terrible time thinking of a boy name for our macaw if that's what s/he turns out to be.

I'm kicking around Dash, Vandal and Dante for a boy. We came up with a boatload of girl names we loved (but we've settled on either Aura or Echo), but the boy list is just.. sad. Nothing seems to fit

I like Ember for either, and I really like Daphne. It's a cute name.

I've always ended up with unisex names. Although it seemed like most of the time my girls had more boyish names, whereas my boys have unisex but typical 'girly' names haha. Didn't do it on purpose.

Hello and Welcome !!

There is one advantage to buying there, they are very clinical, everything is done by the book, so for example I was going to get my baby from a small home breeder and decided against it because they were teaching the bird bad habits, and putting the birds heath and safety at risk by their unprofessional actions
I thought the "home raised" baby would be better but it was not

BTW, Love your sig, very nice !! So Glad you have joined us!!

I vote for Ember, since its on the boy and girl list...and its super adorable. :)

I like Ember too, but I am kinda partial to Arara also

Thanks Mark We do LOVE her a BUNCH!!
Guess What? Weight as of tonight 1185 Grams !! YAY
(Not sure how much of that is poo and water but it is still better)

She is getting babied a lot, We are doing 5 extra loads of laundry a day in towels, blankies, and sheets LOL

But her cage play time training is going GREAT, I put her boing in the cage for playtime (after she eats enough) and she occupies herself with it for about 40 minutes before she moves back to the door asking for out LOL

She flew for the first time in my home today, from my coffee table (otherwise known as her playground LOL) to her T stand, about 4 feet away and 2 feet higher, nailed the landing perfectly (even though she is clipped by the breeder)

I am going to have to read up on station training huh?

She is SO FUNNY, when she wants out she looks at me, and she knows when I look back at her, if I look at her out of the corner of my eye she keeps moving her head to get my attention, she a gives me a Roo-Roo-Roo, if I don't get her out she bangs the cage a few times with her wings to make me look at her

I just love how smart she is!!

Poor naked kitty! Lol my Maltese are the same way. They come up and look at us like, "That's my lap, but I'm afraid of the beak!"

Ha Ha Ha "Poor naked kitty" Very Very Funny Karen, well Ra does sleep in Rissa's arms every night, and he does nap with me too :)

At least your Maltese is smart enough to fear the beak, Ra has no clue LOL

I Like Ember too !!

I LOVE the Rissa snuggling video. Love seeing him/her lay that head right on her and snuggle in. And the kitty is so cute and curious :)

Aww, Thanks Selestine, I want to do a video of rubbing her face with my face, she LOVES my Scruffies, I finally shaved and now I am starting over LOL

She is SO FUNNY, she loves Rissa and picks her most of the time But if she is tired or "hungry" she runs across the table right to me and won't give up till she is in my arms getting love, she puts her head between my neck and shoulder (I raise my shoulder and tilt my neck to accommodate her) Next thing you know she does not want to move

We just love every minute with her !!

I like Ember, Arara and Farrah. My son's GCC is named Blaze because it was on his boy / girl list and he couldn't stand waiting any longer for the DNA results to come in.

I know it does seem much harder to pick boy names, I like Ember and Arara

We were trying to find some names to pay respect to the indigenous tribes in Brazil, and Arara is also the Portuguese word for macaw!!

I have always LOVED the name Aura, Greek meaning "the dawn" if I remember right?

I like Vandal and Dante

We are no where near done making the list LOL!!

I like Ember for either, and I really like Daphne. It's a cute name.

Well it does seem like everyone likes Ember, as soon as
I saw it I knew I liked it !!

Daphne is one of Rissa's favs, it is a very cute name for sure

I like Arara- I think it fits either a boy or a girl and it reminds me of that funny macaw baby noise they make ;)

LOL that is another reason to like Arara!! I'll mention that to Rissa and she will laugh !!

THANKS Everyone !!

If you figure out the station training let me know. Zoe is more into recall training.... she recalls that she can fly and does so when I put her on her play stand.

:DSweepea was the same way at that age. Boomerang bird. Set her down, she comes right back to you... :D

Guess who is here! :)

I am a nervous wreck. For multiple reasons. All the fears of brining a new bird home with another bird are making me sick. Lol! I am going to take him to the vet next week just for peace of mind.

He seems to be adjusting ok. Everything was scaring him, I felt kinda bad for the little guy. But he started eating immediately. He also comes right to you! Likes to cuddle under your chin. :)

Attached is a photo of him for uncle joe!

Lol! I also am in the same boat with names. I have a real hard time coming up with a boy name!

Boy Names:

Amadeo - The name means Lover-boy.

Buzz - Sarcastic. Short for feathered Buzz Saw. On some levels it will work when this bird starts turning 2x4s into toothpicks.

Buzby - Derived from sarcasm, but I kinda like the name.

I've still got to think about hawkhead names. Give me a minute. They are such unusual looking birds.

Here's a baby bird name site I found with several thousand to choose from:
