AWWWW!!! Ringo is such a cutie!!!! ❤❤❤❤

Looks like Mishka is gonna show him the ropes ;) pretty soon he'll be riding Ringo around telling him where to go hahahha

Ugh I hate fleas- this last year our ginormous 18 lb fat cat, Henry, got INFESTED with fleas (my fault for not keeping up with his monthly flea meds) and the flea infestation was also INSIDE our house  I have scars all up and down BOTH legs, ankle to calf because they ate me alive!! They never bit my husband because he used this soap that had peppermint oil in it- fleas don't like peppermint!!

Could you tell me the name of the soap? We had a flea infestation here also last year....Planning my revenge for this year.... :D

I am curious how many of you members have cats and birds together?
Do they get along?
Do they spend time together when your bird is out of the cage?
Well, I have 3 cats. 2 just do their own thing, the other is a couch potato. He's not interested at all. They don't not get along, as in they don't try to get the birds, but they aren't friends or interested in each other. My galah might go up to my fat lazy cat, but I don't want any "incidents" so I just keep her with me. I can play with her on the bed while fatty is sleeping, he doesn't make a move.

Somebody had posted this recently. I wouldn't let mine get that close, I'd be scared somebody would get hurt. I'm surprised at how the budgies just keep coming back for more. They aren't scared at all. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0NekC8T2oo]December 2013 Parrot Annoying Cats Compilation - YouTube[/ame]

Congrats on you new cat Ant! :D She is adorable!

Just a note for new bird owners, it is recommended that cats and dogs should not intermingle as their is a high risk of the bird getting hurt or worse yet, death.

I am sure Antoinette understands those risks and is doing what she is comfortable with in her situation.

But please always consider those risks for the safety of your bird before allowing cats or dogs to mingle. Just an FYI.

I hope you are ok with me posting this Ant. I love your photos but want to make sure others know the risks. Just in case. ;)

Blanca's right of course! I would never advocate people putting birds and cats together willy-nilly. However, a mature bird and a kitten is not quite the same thing as putting a baby bird with a seasoned old hunting tom, is it? We all know how much Ant loves Mishka and I'm absolutely certain she watches him and Ringo constantly. As Ringo grows, I'm sure Ant will be keeping an eye on the partnership too.

I have three adult cats and a large dog. There are lots of times when Dom is out that a cat and/or the dog will be in the room. It's usually not a problem because Dom isn't allowed on the floor (obviously: for his safety) and the cats are watched like a hawk. Our house is tiny so it's not really possible for anyone/thing to be alone at any given moment. Also, plenty of people in the rat and mouse fancy allow their rodents free access to their cats and dogs with no problem at all.

What people do with their animals is up to them. Accidents can always happen and risks may or may not pay off. The thing is, no one can predict exactly what will or will not happen - the best predictor is the owner of the animals involved. After all s/he knows them best!

Thanks Trisha, I know how much Ant loves Mishka, and if she is comfortable with the situation that is her call.

I just wanted to make sure people understand the risks that could be reading this. I am happy for Ant and hope she understands. :)

Yes, that video isn't representative AT ALL. I'd never let animals with such huge size differentials "free range" together, but it's interesting to observe the interaction of those in the video. There's no predator/prey vibe at all, but I'd never risk it to that extent and it really, really depends on the individuals concerned. Ringo is a baby, he probably doesn't even know that Mishka isn't a cat. And Mishka knows that he's the king of the universe, so he's got nothing to worry about from Ringo.

No offense take at all
I am very well aware of the risks.

There are rules Mishka and Ringo have to abide to and believe me they follow the rules.

When Mishka and Ringo are together there are always two of us, within inches of them both, they are under very strict supervision.

I know Mishka's nature, and knew he would interact well with a kitten.
Believe me Steven is even more strict than what I am, and I am very strict.

I would never endanger Mishka life ever, thus two of us are always there when Mishka is out of his cage

Ringo and Mishka have a special love affair going on.

They show it by the way they react when together and apart.
If Ringo is not in the lounge Mishka asks "Mommy where is Ringo?" and continues asking until he sees Ringo.

When Mishka is put to bed, Ringo remains by his cage, laying there and watching over his brother, while he sleeps.

Mishka is extremely clever and has a way of calling Ringo.....
He makes the sound of one of Ringo's little mouse's toys and Ringo runs right up to Mishka's cage and begins meowing.

At 5.30pm each afternoon Ringo lies on Mishka's playpen, knowing Mishka will soon joining him.

Mishka and Ringo's favorite part of the playtime is when they are playing with a ball together. Ringo is much quicker than Mishka, and takes the ball away, rolling and tumbling with it.
Ringo is very fair, and often takes the ball to Mishka who then picks up the ball and throws it, knowing Ringo will chase it.

Yesterday Steven took Ringo for his inoculation injection.
He said Ringo was very brave and did not cry.

When coming home he slept in his little cat bed while Mishka watched over him.

I am only encountering one problem

Ringo thinks Mishka's potty is portable drinking station

Mishka is very possessive of his potty, when Ringo goes near it, Mishka begins to pull it away.

The problem may already have been solved....
I placed another drinking bowl near Mishka's potty and Ringo drank from there twice today.

Thanks Bundiibird

They interact so well together

This morning Ringo jumped into the bath when Mishka was having a shower. He stood nearby just watching then began cleaning himself.

If I pour water into the basin Ringo jumps in and sits in the water,he loves water.

To the folks that asked about the Dawn Dish Washing Liquid, it is safe to use on all animals! When you wash dogs or cats, make sure do the neck area first all the way around then do the head part, then the body. Make sure you get in-between their paws. Leave it on for 5 min then rinse, if there's any fleas you'll see them dead by the time your start to wash them off. Then after 24hrs of dry time you should treat them with a flea topical treatment. This was how I won a war against flea infestation after moving into this house, the yard was over run by fleas as we have lots of lose animals around here at one point. Who knows if one of my neighbors even treat their dog for fleas so it might be coming from there. Then all the stray cats that roam around here. I was quite happy when all the fleas were gone but I've got scars on my ankles to show as I'm very sensitive to flea bites.
