Okay, I'd have been able to roll with some Spanish. Or I might possibly have followed with a little Latin. Maybe. (After brushing off A LOT of dust! Lol) Jamaican patois? 2nd nature. But French? Completely lost. Hahaha!

So no, Shirre, I'm not even remotely conversant with French. The "et tu" was Latin, Julius Caesar's last words to his close friend Brutus in the Shakespearean play. More specifically: "Et tu, Brute?"

So, uhm... someone want to translate some French for me? Lol!

Et tu: and you?

Me: do you speak French, Stephen?

Wendy: Nice try! This is an outrage!

Me: I agree, Wendy!! Let's keep up the ruckus and see if he understands! (It was supposed to be let's keep heckling him...)

Btw- google translate is awesome [emoji6] tee hee!!! Lol

Mostar il tuo volto giovane!

Tempus Fugit, Y'all:)

You only know minimal Indonesian and Japanese?!? That's appreciably more than I do. Hahaha! Did you take classes on those languages in school, or did you get acquainted with them in a real world setting?

On the Maya and Bixby front, it looks like Sir Bixby is holding something of a grudge. Guess we're going to have to do an intervention! Lol!

Haha! I'm usually the one behind the camera, But I'll eventually get a pic in with my disgruntled ekky couple.

Now Stephen, you were not the one holding the camera in the last pic, so that excuse doesn't work:) I will have to send your beautiful wife a message and make sure she gets your face in the pic next time!

Update on Maya's progress! There has been some definite progress in terms of her relationship with Bixby.

Looks like Wendy was spot on in terms of Bixby being assertive with letting Maya know his boundaries. Though she's still a bit much once he lets her start "kissing" him, she's toned it down several notches and shows a little more respect for his "no's". Lol!

She remains very persistent, though. Hahaha!

Funny thing is, whenever she takes a break from trying to woo him and starts preening her feathers, he's begun seeking her out a bit! But it's still 80/20 the other way around. Lol!

Maya has even managed to sneak in a preen of one or two of his feathers, and even attempted to remove a "floofy". (I'd always heard that ekkies don't allopreen, but Bixby's lack of skill in the preening department is obviously driving her nuts! Hahaha!) That attempt proved Bixby's last straw for the day, however, because he shut it down after that. Smh. All in all, great progress, though.

Flight training, however, has been going FAR more slowly.

The target training portion has been amazing. She will step back and forth from training perch to training perch all day if I wanted her to. She's very eager for approval and gives an appreciative "hello" or a joyful whistle every time she completes something that I ask. It's really sweet.

But her fear of flying is rather strong. Don't get me wrong. She CAN fly. And, for a bird without flight training, she can do so rather well. But she only flies out of fear. (And once out of a strong urge to go with me when I was leaving the room.)

You should see the freakish lengths she'll go to in her attempt to bridge the gap between the training perches! Lol! When I'd begun training her, I kept the perches close enough for her to step comfortably back and forth. Then I gradually increased the distance until we got to the point that SHOULD require a small hop.

Not for our Maya, apparently.

No, Maya stands up tall and stretches her neck out as far as possible, and then, while still holding on to her perch with her feet, just allows herself to pivot forward with her beak outstretched! The point of her beak then catches the other perch so that she is extended straight as a rod between the two! (Think Christopher Reeve's Superman in the scene with the broken train tracks and you'll get the picture! Similar color scheme, too! Hahaha!) Then this crazy bird will let go of the first perch with her feet, swing across the intervening distance like Spider-Man, (again, similar colors!) and proceed to PULL HERSELF UP until her feet could reach the perch, clamp on, and bring her to an upright position! It is a feat of abdominal strength that I'd have found impressive in a gymnast! Hahaha!

And after pulling this crazy stunt off, she simply looks up at me and, without any additional fanfare, says her usual "hello" and waits for her treat. Wow.

But alas, once I spread them beyond that point, she just stares across the distance with earnest intent. Even eagerness. But she won't make the hop. Yet. She'll get there, though. She just needs to get more used to being flighted is all. Baby steps, right?

Anyhow, here's Maya giving me the eye during flight training:

So the happy, young couple still have a few differing opinions about what to expect from their relationship. Lovely Maya maybe prefers gymnastics classes over flight school.

Awww. Maya looks like she is looking to you for your approval:)
Those perches you are using for training are awesome...where did you get them?

Correct.. Hahaha when I say minimal i mean MINIMAL!

I can count to 10 in Jap, and 299 in Indonesian, I can say Selamat Pagi, Selamat Siang, Selamat Sore, Selamat Malam and a few other things, but i understand more than I can say.

Satu, Dua, Tiga, Empat, Lima, Enam, Tujuh, Delapan, Sembilan, Sepuluh, Sebelas, Duabelas, Tigabelas etc :p Classes with Indo and then listening to Japanese people talk. I used to know a fair amount of Italian but, I forgot.. lol. Loki wants to teach me German.... O.O

GREAT to hear about Maya and Bixby! LOVE her perches, and that look! :) She and Bixby are just too adorable!!!

Haha! Yeah, they still have a few wrinkles to iron out, but at least now it looks like they'll actually reach some kind of common ground. Bixby's just a little old-fashioned is all. Lol!

Apparently it's not flying in and of itself that intimidates Lady Maya. She flew again yesterday evening, before I got home. She was on her stand in the elevated living room, and flew, unbidden, down to the dining room and then around the corner into the kitchen where everyone else was! She landed on the floor.

And that time when she'd flown after me, she didn't land on me. She landed on the couch between us. I believe that her hesitation comes from doubt in her ability to land on so small a targeted area as the training perch! Hmmm... I'll have to cook something up for our resident gymnast!

Awww. Maya looks like she is looking to you for your approval:)

Yeah, Terry! She's such a sweetheart. She just melts my heart with that!

Ah, thanks Terry! I got those perches back when I first got Bixby. They're from the Parrot Wizard. I've since seen similar stands at cheaper prices, though. I think on Amazon, perhaps?

Okay, showoff! You have to translate the words and phrases as you say them! Hahahaha!

Sounds like you may have a bit of an ear for languages. Maybe you should take Loki up on his offer. Then you and Wendy could chat it up!

Thank you, Liana! Yeah, their "adorable factor" went up a couple of degrees now that Bixby is allowing more beak action between them. Hahaha!
