Meet Mrs. Bixby!

How precious! Maya looks like she's saying "hmm, interesting... So THAT'S what they look like" (males of her kind) lol.

Remind me, isn't Bixby about 13-14 months old now? How old is Maya? Is she a much older woman?

Hahaha! And her interest didn't end there. Maya was quite... brazen with her affection. Lol! She was VERY eager to lock beaks with Bixby!

He seemed somewhat taken aback by the enthusiasm of her greeting, but he did hold his ground. Haha!

Yes, Bixby is around 14months, now. Nice attention to detail, Julie! And Maya is only 2 years old. So while she is older, she isn't very much so.

Oh that's perfect age together. :) I do remember ;)... Although I cheated a little by remembering Bixby is just a little older than Raven who turned 1 at the end of August.

Sounds like they're off to a great start as friends :)... and maybe more?? I know, they're taking it slow lol.

Well, Bixby is taking it slow. Maya? Not so much. Hahahaha!

Wait...what? Did Maya decide to just fly on over to Bixby's tree and make use of HIS sphere??? :D Priceless!!!

Hahaha! No, Wendy, though you could tell that she really wanted to go over there. So I got a little proactive since she's not flight trained, yet. (She'd be more likely to crash into the tree than land on one of its branches at this point.) But upon putting her here, she immediately crossed over to where Bixby was and went for an immediate open-mouthed kiss! Hahaha!

Bixby leaned back and gave her a look like, "WTH?!? We just met, lady!" Lol! But at that point, I decided to move him over to her stand and allow things to progress more slowly. Those are some powerful beaks, and I'd rather they have more time to adjust to each other's likes and dislikes than risk any serious injuries.

Maya has since decided that she quite enjoys Bixby's stand and makes much more liberal use of the toys than he does!

Oh! And your fly over question wasn't completely off, Wendy. Just directed toward the wrong bird. Even though Bixby was the one playing it cool, once I separated them he actually flew back over to her! (Tried and true tactic. He's interested, but he's keeping it frosty, baby! Lol!)

Stephen, what fantastic news about Maya's tests!!! YAY!
That picture where she and Bixby are looking at each other, all the kept echoing in my head was "How YOU doin" from Friends..lol.

LOL. I hope young Bixby isn't the type of guy that's turned off by aggressively forward females :52:

You know, Julie, I think he secretly likes it! Hahaha! He may act aloof, but I'm not fooled. He is the superior flier, after all. So it's not like she could keep up with him. And he's significantly bigger, (though that doesn't quite show in the pics, does it?) so he could always go the intimidation route. Nah, I get the feeling he's quite thrilled with Lady Maya's attentions. ;)

Hahahaha! Right? Except she'd be the Joey character! Lol!

Has anyone noticed the difference in feather consistency between males and females? Or it could be between red-sided and SI. Or just my two eclectus parrots specifically. Lol! But Maya's feathers seem much more water repellant than Bixby's.

In these two pics, they were getting showered at the same time. Side by side. They received the same amount of water. Yet Bixby looks sodden and she looks like she was lightly misted! Hahaha!

Maybe it's just part of her feminine mystique? Lol!

Ohmygoodness!!! They've finally met!!! Yay- congrats on the test results!

Oh my!! She clearly adores bixby!!! [emoji445]"Hey I just met you, let's make out baby" [emoji445] HAHAHAHAHA!!

I'm sure in no time Bixby will quit playing hard to get, and they'll be inseparable before you know it!

Wow!!! Congratulations, Lady Maya, great news about the test results! Stephen, they are a breathtaking couple of Ekkies.

Love the photos! Can't wait to see just how long Mr. Bixby manages to, "stay frosty". It's so funny to hear parrots talking to each other, or laughing or crying together, or just making strange noises back and forth. Bixby and Maya's initial meeting went really well. No one got their tail yanked or got pushed off a perch or chased to the floor...

Your family is going to have so much fun with those two. Please keep sharing.

Thanks, Shirre! Hahaha! You're such a nut!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to them being at ease with each other. I'm not used to having more than one parrot at a time, so I'm probably being overly cautious at this point, but I'm making the getting-to-know-you transition VERY gradual. (I'm sure Maya's wondering what my problem is! Lol)

Thank you, Allee!

Yes, I think the first meeting went quite well, too! Bixby's frosty days are most certainly numbered! Lol! And my family is already having a field day with our 2 feathered kids. I love it! And yes, I'll definitely keep sharing with you all! ;)

Flight Training Maya, Day 1:

Starting Maya out with the basics. Right now, Maya will only fly out of fear. So the first thing I want to do is work on her recall/target training between two closely spaced training perches. Once she gets really comfortable with that, I'll gradually begin increasing the distance between them.

The training went VERY well! She was quite responsive, and very eager to learn. And after the successful completion of each exercise, she would look up, wait for me to pet her, and then say, "Hello!" Hahaha! You could tell she was so proud!

Such a sweetheart!

In addition, as you can see in the pics, I was working with both of them at the same time! Maya and Bixby have already learned to wait their turn during our training sessions, allowing me to focus alternately on one and then the other.

K, I reckon I've yammered on long enough. Just felt like sharing some of my excitement!

That's awesome! It's amazing how well she's doing in such a short time. Good job on the training!

Thanks, Karen! I couldn't be happier with how swiftly she is adapting both to her new home and to her training regimen. Aside from flight training, she's also been weaned off of bribery treats for step-up and is now responding to my requests at around 95%. She's smart as a whip and she couldn't be sweeter! Great combo!

Beautiful girl!
Yes the females seem more water repellant than the males, don't know why but it takes a lot less water to soak the boys than the girls.:p

I LOVE the bath pics! You are not yammering at all, you are a proud Daddy and I love that as well. She is really taking to her training, she must feel so safe and happy there with y'all:)
Please Please Please keep the pics and updates coming!
