Fargo- Blue and Gold Macaw
Fargo's flight line arrived today, actually while i was riding my horse, so in the following photos you will see my hair a complete mess from riding hahahaha

I didnt realise the flight line was pegged into the ground, and then they flew along the line.. Took a while to figure it out, of course fargo just sat on my shoulder, stuck to me like glue like usual!

Not really a fan of it being in the ground :/
So will make adjustments so i will just have it on my wrist and he can fly around, least the impact wont be as bad that way either!

He did a few flies, i dont think he liked it, he just flew, then crashed to the floor, felt so bad for him... Just did it about 4 times, and then practiced flying from mum to me in short distances..

Poor boy was puffing after each flight, so had breaks in between until he caught his breath...

Flying-

But i swear he was thinking 'please dont make me go mum.. i want to stay with you' hahaha

So i just sat down with him, and he was very sooky, as you can see:
Such a sweetie hehe

A big shake:

Then just soaking up the love and being a sook-

He always gives the cutest kisses, pokes his tongue out the side of his beak haha
and Wendy is going to kill me for blocking my face out!

and this is hilarious, his face is sooo happy when i gave him a big kiss!

So he did a bit of flying, but preferred feeling sorry for himself and getting cuddles hahahaha

Of course i knew he wouldnt like it, he is so unfit, so each day we will practice so he will learn to fly like a proper bird!

Awwwwww!!!!! Our macaws are just toooooo adorable!!!! Unfortunately there's no safe spots in flying my macaws here, there's many predators around here. Lots of watchful eyes of hawks always around....Plus Willie HATES going outside for some reason, he sookes too and hide under my chin if I take him outside....Lola on the other hand, she can care less....lol

Haha very adorable :D

Oh really? Luckily we dont have many big bird predators around here, we have chicken hawks and crows, but they dont bother with Fargo..

There was a kookaburra who was sitting watching him though, laughing :09:

Its strange that they get sooky outside, i know its different and scary, but Fargo has been out 30+ times, but he still just likes to huddle into my hair! But hopefully with the flight line he will get more adventurous and learn how to fly properly!

Maybe if you take both outside, Lola will give Willie some bravery ;) hahaha

No way I'll take both outside at the same time....They do not like each other, I'll be right in the middle of them while Willie trying to hide by crawling up my shoulders and tuck his head under my chin while Lola is getting ticked off with him coming up close to me. They have jealousy issues...lol

Well atleast it shows they both love you and trying to prove who loves you more  hehe

Where are you in Q'ld, Tab? We get Wedgies and Sea Eagles and falcons down my way (Newcastle, NSW), so I'd feel a bit funny letting my lot fly outdoors. We also get Harriers and Goshawks, although not so frequently. I once rescued a peachface from a Goshawk and another time, I was on the phone to my Mum when a Little Falcon swiped a turtledove off the clothesline in a puff of feathers. I would never have believed that if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes! I think urban predators get a bit more confident than the ones that live in the country.

Do keep a good eye on Fargo when he's out, won't you? :)

We are south east, in the mountains, when we go to town, there are about 50 hawks that circle the farmers fields, but because we are just all mountain thick country, they dont seem to come here, we get ALOT of crows though, but i am fairly sure they wouldnt mess with Fargo? and then the flock of galahs and rosellas, who probably want the big blue bird to join their gang ;)

Have seen 2 big eagles before, a few weeks ago, but they haven't been back since, but if they are ever outside flying around i wouldnt take Fargo out!

Oh wow!! I guess in town there are less things to eat, so they start on birds, where as out here there are lots of mice in the farmers fields, and roadkill ! haha

Of course, wouldnt let him out of my sight hehe :09:

"MUM, I promise to be a GOOD boy and not chew the door trim, but PLEASE dont' make me leave." <--Fargo's thoughts. :D

GREAT pics, Tab!! And GREAT braiding practice in your hair!!! :D I hope you didn't think I was going to miss that, HAHAHAHA!!!

Hahahahaha that is DEFINITELY what he is thinking ;)
He was such a good boy this afternoon, probably very exhausted

HAHA i was watching tv all day, and just sat there braiding it in different spots, practicing for Kitai :09: Its so annoying having to take them all out though! I was more worried you were going to tell me to stop blocking my face hahaha :54:

Awesome pictures! Wow! must be pretty neat to watch them really fly like that! I always look forward to a new fargo post:)

Thank you! :D It was very cool, bit upsetting when he reaches the end of the line and then he just gets pulled back :(
Which is why i want to attach it to my wrist instead of the ground, atleast i can run with him and then not make it such a restricted flying area! :)

Maybe next time :D hahahaha

Tab, you could add a length of stout elastic somewhere along the line. That way, the pull-up wouldn't be so harsh for Fargo?

Very cool Tab. Savannah is also nervous when outside. While trying to just get her to flap her wings she would cuddle up to me after and not let go. lol I have to keep working with her. Hopefully it will get better. I think Fargo did great for his first time with the flightline! :D

Go Fargo, go. Yes tab, i think you'll both be happier with the lease. Ha ha you both can get some exercise.

Well the harness leash is elastic, which is then attached to ANOTHER cord of elastic which came with the flight line, which is even more stretchy than the harness one, and then the actual line is just a hard cord thing..

So its double elastic, and its not a sudden stop, he flies forward, but then gets swung back, so even with more elastic i think its still going to be annoying for him :(

He just has to learn to TURN, instead of going straight and going to the floor, if he turned he could do 25 meter circles! Which still isnt much considering a bird flies so many kilometers in a day, but at least it will be good at the moment.. Who knows, maybe one day i will be brave enough to do free flight ;)

But thats why i want to attach it to my wrist, so atleast i could run and so when he reaches the end, i can keep moving, unlike when its pegged into the ground!

Will give it a go tomorrow and see if he goes better! :)

Hahaha nawwww!! Yeah just keep working with her, Fargo was the same first few times out, he wouldnt step onto the ground or a post, he just clung to my shoulder for his life! ;)
Took a few times before he got braver, but even now he doesnt ever try and fly away from me!

Its nice to know they want to stay and feel safe with you though hey! :)

When i got him to fly away today, he just kept going straight until he reached the end, so im hoping when he learns how to turn, he will do circles and come back to me! Fingers crossed anyway ;)

HAHAHA Hey, it was him who was puffing, not me :09:
I get my hour of exercise a day riding my horse, an hour is enough right? ;) :54:

But yes i think it will make him a lot happier being able to fly outside in the fresh air, rather than around the house! :D

Love the pictures of him in flight Tab! Please please be careful adjusting the flight line though if you do. I quite liked the flight line, Merlin couldn't get toooo much height, and it's got a good length on it!

Fargo just needs to learn how to manoeuvre better in flight now! ;)
