I just purchased a macaw .(the owner was passing away with cancer) I have a few questions. He 21 yo and has had same owner all his life.
I owned a macaw for many years till I lost him to cancer.
This bird is a very good bird she brought him in my house I took him from her and stared walking him around and she was amazed, he took to me instantly. The thing that puzzles me is I try to take him to sit with me and he rocks back and forth until I take him back to his cage. Is that normal?
He talks almost constantly not sure why. will that slow down?
Ok so it's only been 4 days but I was just wondering what someone with more experience thought?
So it is 4 weeks in with my 21yo B&G. He has a large vocabulary and was very loud when I got him. He has quieted down a lot. He talks a lot in the morning but not nearly as loud. He has only bit me 2 times (one time I scared him) but has not bit hard enough to break the skin. I gave him his 4th shower this week, and it was soooo funny. He figured out to prop his head under my chin and he could flap his wings without worry about falling and he flapped his wings and started squealing, talking, laughing and saying OMG (which I did not teach him). So, all in all I think it is going pretty well. I did not know what to expect because the last one we raised from a baby. I just thought I would do a little update in case someone else is thinking of taking in an older bird.
