Fargo flying on flight line !

Are you going to take Skittles flying?? :)

Thanks for asking about Skittles. She is a rescue bird that spent the last ten years in such a small cage, that she couldn't even spread her wings. Her left wing has atrophy so she can't extend it. I have noticed improvement in the last two months, so maybe in the future I will be asking you for some flying tips.

On the positive side, I don't have to chase after her down a field when she reaches the end of the line... :D

Keep sharing your adventures with Fargo. Reading through all the comments and it is clear that we all love reading them!

The videos and pictures are so amazing! So cool!!
You seem to live in an awesome area, open safe space!

What kind of horses do you have?!?!

Never a dull moment with them :54:

Never a dull moment indeed! Lol, living with animals can be wild sometimes.

I have a Saddlebred mare named Ginger and an Arabian gelding named Murphy. They are kind of high spirited at times, but I've had my Ginge since she was only a few months old, so she's always been a really good girl for me. :D

Hahaha if i didnt have animals, i would have such a peaceful life, but no, my 2 horses seem to always do their best to get something wrong ;) Spent ALL day with a professional farrier and at the equine vets getting special shoes fit for him :( Now he cant be jumped for at least a month! So stressful!

Finally got inside, ran to my room, opened the door, and Fargo just yelled HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hahahahahah :09: So cute

Naww really!! You will have to post a picture of them sometime! I love arabs, they are very pretty, very up themselves, but pretty ;) Do you ride them both?

Oh wow!!!! Poor little girl, she must feel like shes in heaven with you now!

Hopefully she will learn to fully extend it and she can make you get exercise running with her ;)
and yes, would be more than happy to help when you have questions!

Thank you very much! :)

Haha thank you!

Yes we have alot of open space, there are hardly any houses around here, and where i take Fargo is out the back, so its all just mountains and land, no houses at all! :)

I hope your horse feels better soon! Horses are so big, but soo sensitive, arent they? Especially their hooves, I know lots of my equestrian friends spend big dollars on farriers and shoes. I'm fairly lucky *knocks on wood* that my horses are fairly easy keepers. I used to ride all the time, both dressage and hunter/jumper. I also enjoyed just riding bareback out in the field. Ginger is my horse, so mainly I work with her. I dont ride as much as I used to..now they're like big dogs...I even taught Ginge to shake hooves  lol! I will have to post some pictures!

And awwe, Fargo is so sweet! I love macaw voices, never fails to make me smile! So cute. :D

Better than him yelling, "SNAKE!" Hopefully those adventures are behind you now?

I took my Macaw flying the other week. I got a piece of line that was about 100m long and attached that to his harness so he could pick up some speed. And then when he took off I ran with him so he could go even further. I couldn't run even half the speed he could fly and ended up tripping up and done a bit of flying myself into a load of dirt. And just for reference I can just about keep up with my mates dog on a run.

But even with that length of line and me running he still only got in about 8 seconds of flying. I'm thinking of getting a very large fishing reel as they can be loaded with several hundred meters of line and can be reeled in nice and tidely. I kept getting my flight line tangled up every time I collected it in.

Hmmm, does your macaw do circles though?

It would be alot easier if you taught him to do huge big circles around you, that way he could go on forever, instead of just flying straight :)

Measured the flight line, its about 17 meters... So 17 meters long, doing a circle, if my maths is correct, its about 53 meters in one circle...

Fargo can do 2 circles now, so hes flying 106 meters!! and i am basically standing still!!! :)

He just flies towards the sun in a zigzag pattern. So he done a 90 degree left turn then turned back to the right. It's more fun trying to race him, and losing badly. Plus I could do with the exercise as I eat too much. To be honest though he doesn't really seem that interested in flying. I have to give him some encouragement to get him going.

Fargo's circle won't be 53m as the flight line won't be laying parallel to the ground plus with your original calculation it should have been 106m. Say that the flight line is at a 45 degree angle to the ground, so he is flying at the same height as his horizontal distance from where the line is tethered, then his circle will be.

17 ^ 2 = 289
289 / 2 = 144.5
144.5 ^ 0.5 = 12.02
12.02 * 2 * 3.142 = 75.4

So his circle is about 75 meters.

If you tell me at what height he flies it can be calculated more accurately, if you want to know.

Sorry Kitai got hurt! Hope he gets better soon!
