Hehehe yep! As soon as he knows it's food time, he lays flat on his belly and waits haha. Hehe probably!

Another male Eclectus? Yeah they are a decent size. Vosmaeri Eclectus' are the biggest I've seen though! Hmm..do you mean are other Eclectus as cuddly as Pazu...? :31:

Pazu is officially 100% weaned! Eating those Pellets like they are little chunks of Heaven, and gobbling up ANY fruit and veg I put in his bowl...and today he finally got the jist of how to drink water out of a bowl! *beams with pride* However his weight is now down to 445g. I guess that's to be expected at weaning anyway.

I also took him outside today for a full 30 minutes, and Pazu met his Daddy, Tai! Tai came right up against the front of the Aviary and they both stared at each other. :) Pazu started making his 'comfy' noises...they both certainly knew, in some way, shape or form that they are 'family'.

...Is he the most talented 'Play Dead' Eccy you've ever seen, or what?!

OMG! THAT BIRD HAS A BROKEN NECK.... :D

There's another one of those unusual birdie sleeping positions! He does look dead in those pics...

It's official... pazu is a macaw trapped in an eclectus' body! Eclectus can learn to accept being placed on their backs, but I've never heard of one for whom it is actually a preferred sleeping position!!! Wow!

Congratulations on Pazu being fully weaned! And under 3 months, too?!? That's really early for an ekky! Nicely done, Liana! You're an amazing parront!

And I love all of those pics! Beautiful!

Oh, and the weight drop is likely in preparation for fledging. Why, what was his weight before?

He is beautiful!

Hahahhaa! It seriously freaks me out.. EVERY TIME!

Hahaha, I wonder what this house will be like when we throw a Blue and Gold Macaw in the mix... Bet ya he'll be like an Eclectus! Haha yeah, that's why I'm so thrilled :D I got a thpecial boy!

Thank you! He tried to make me feed him formula this morning..wouldn't touch his pellets. So I gave him a whole heap of fresh veggies (we need to restock on fruit) and egg, and he gobbled the entire lot down!

Hehehe yeah, I was expecting to not have him weaned until 12+ weeks! Nyawwww *pssh* never ^^

Thank you!

Yeah, it's normal.. I'm just always alert when there's ANY weight loss... Always triggers my wariness... His weight was ranging between 465-470grams.

He is beautiful!

Thank you Taw! :D

Oh yes! Last night he climbed out of his cage onto the back of the lounge, but slipped and jumped onto the curtain..he didn't even ATTEMPT to get back up.. just hung there with his wings out, staring at me.. haha.

So I helped him up back onto the couch. Then he bolts for the cage door and i think my brain was in the 'OFF' position, because I got him to step up onto my hand.. and then he pooped on me...

WHAT A GOOD BOY! He was racing to do a poop IN HIS CAGE!!! :O *squeals in delight*

Well Pazu had his first shower this evening! I was worried that he'd freak out..but he really ENJOYED it! He let me completely soak him, his head...his back.. Even under his belly..he was loving it!

And he loved sitting in front of the small heater half wrapped in a fluffy towel. And now he's on my lap happily napping..

First Shower = SUCCESS!!!

Sweet! So thus far Pazu is harness trained, self potty-trained, well socialized enough to hang out with your little daughter, is a complete cuddle bug AND has taken a natural liking to showers.

You're obviously being spoiled rotten by your bird. Lol!

Oh my gosh I'm shocked at how big your Pazu is!!! I haven't had a chance to log in over the weeks and he's now such a big boy. I love the pics and the stories that go with it. You definitely have an amazing little guy. Yay!!!!

Half self potty trained now, he's been rather 'misbehaved' the past couple of days. Pooing on the couch and screaming the house down (and shattering my brain!) because he wants to be fed formula again... :20_grumpy lazy thing.

Haha yep. :) I KNOW RIGHT!? It's great! :D

*squeaks* He's such a fatty! Haha. Awww thank you Lisa!

Well, it would appear one of Pazu's siblings hatched about a week ago, so it'll be taken out next week for raising. :) There's still the other egg in the nestbox and Sen is being very careful with it...so I'm fairly certain it'll hatch in the next couple of days.. otherwise she would've destroyed it by now.

Photo is a bit blurry, I had to put cage wire over the hole so Sen didn't utterly destroy the camera!

I've always heard eggs hatch around every other day. So they can hatch a week apart?

Yeah that's usually the case.. but it is possible that she laid these eggs 5 or so days apart... I'll wait another week and when we take this little guy out if the egg isn't hatched, we may have to remove it.

I learned something new! I had no idea it could be that far apart. Crossing fingers this third one is viable!

Apparently so, Julie. I'm told Bixby hatched 5 days after his older, pretty boy brother.

Thanks Julie!

Awww Stephen, so Bixby was the 'lil tyke' hey? ;)

Well, Pazu has developed some bad behaviour, thanks to our 17 month old son... -_-
Pazu is now a screamer...because it's fun... He's louder than any Macaw I've ever heard (which is LOUD! Ear-splittingly so). And he takes hours to quieten down... He never does it at the same time, so it's just random fun, apparently, to drive every single member of the family up the wall... He does however seem to enjoy screaming his head off around 11pm so now we have his smaller 'weaning' cage in another room at the end of the house and he goes in there every night (around 8-9pm) and then he comes back into his normal day cage/loungeroom after his formula feed, or else he shatters the ears of everyone. *lets out a big sigh* And with all the stuff going on with me at the moment, and our 5 months old son being colicky (screaming inconsolably, sometimes for 3 hours straight), I've had a rather short fuse, and not a whole lot of patience.

Was oh so fun when 3 mornings ago the 5 month old, Chad, decided to gouge out the front of his throat within 5 minutes of one FINGER being free of his wraps...so when i walked back into the room to check on him, the neck of his singlet was drenched with blood... so I was having a heart-attack, Chad was screaming and Pazu was screaming and the 17 month old was screaming because his 3 and a half year old sister was smacking him on the head for touching a toy that he apparently wasn't allowed... This has been pretty much what my entire day has been like, each day the past 3 days.

Fun times...

Pazu is also back to having morning formula feeds because his weight dropped down to 350grams form being 470grams... He is a moron! :headwall: I swear if I refused to feed him any formula he would literally starve himself to death. He will only start eating his own food immediately after he's been fed formula... Nut of a bird.. I always seem to have soft spots for the moronic birds.

We will manage.. Pazu is just trying my patience at the moment.

I have actually found that feeding a little formula stimulates all eclectus babies to eat more of their grown up foods. I have also found that they will wean at very different times my longest was Jolly and he would just cry and cry until he got that little taste of formula then he would pig out in his cage. I let him and the others wean at their own pace even though sometimes as in Jolly's case I thought I would be feeding that boy forever!

I hope that it's just a phase that he'll grow out of with the screaming! By what other people have said (since I'm no birdy expert), I guess he will grow out of the formula-demanding stage as well.

I know that birds, bunnies, cats, and dogs are all VERY different animals, but I have some experience training the latter three. Especially my dog, because I've had about 4 years to work with her. If I find a bad behavior that the animal has, I have figured out that I can correct it by careful and consistent attention to fixing the behavior. If I can't, or if it's not an option, I know that I can at least improve the behavior so it isn't as severe. Take my dog Dakota for example. Used to be when giving her a treat, she'd grab it roughly out of a person's hand, sometimes biting their fingers in the process. Through focused training, lots of treats given at the right times, and lots of praise or "ah-ah!"s, she has learned the command "gentle." She takes the treat out of your hand so gently, now I would trust her to accept a treat from an infant. :]

If bird training is in any way similar, I would suggest using a humane, but relatively unpleasant for him, "de-stimulator" for hi similar to a squirt bottle for a cat when Pazu starts screaming, and then give him a tasty treat and plenty of praise and pets soon after he stops. Though wait for a few seconds to make sure he stays silent before rewarding him, so he learns "quiet down, and stay quiet" instead of just "quiet down, get treat, start screaming again." He sounds really smart and highly motivated by positive reinforcement, so I have a feeling he'll be a great learner!
