In the aviary today we were attempting some photos and some of our parent birds were trying to get in on the snuggles that Nohea and Kaleo were soaking up! Ransom, Isana, and Panzer all lurked juuuuuuust beyond touching.

I love showing off these two to people who say female IRNs aren’t good pets or that you have to clip wings in order to keep birds tame [emoji23]

Thanks! I sent a message to the breeder who produced Nohea and Kaleo (green and violet green) and joked about how worthless they are!

I paid a good deal of money for these two monkeys because their mom makes great temperament babies who are good pets and I wanted her blood lines.

I got great pets but they only want to have babies with people; as evidenced by the facial expression you pointed out!

So I have a community cage that I don’t post much about because they aren’t parrots, but they have basically become my little assistants :)

Right now I have a rehab cockatiel and a young cockatiel that is having weaning problems in with them, and I also always put my babies in that are transitioning into cage life from the solid sided container.

These sweet birdies will snuggle up on and love ANYBODY (as long as that body is another bird lol). They comfort my babies, they socialize with my poor destroyed rehab cockatiel, and teach the little ones to accept other birds, etc.

I have noticed a significant difference in babies who wean in this cage vs. in a cage with only other hookbills. They are much more tolerant of other birds when they go to new homes. They are also more confident! I’ll never forget the first time I tried it and I caught my little society finches brooding the cockatiels that are 15 times their size! It is so comforting to the babies!

The regular cage inhabitants are mostly society finches, a pair of zebra finches, and two diamond doves :)

Anyway usually I feed fresh and pellets, then take the babies out to feed, then put them back, and a couple of hours later I feed the seed mix, but today was just another day in a long string of absolute insanity and I just fed seed. Everyone piled in for the treat at once and I thought you all might enjoy the view :) not excellent pictures but oh well!

Please note, I DO NOT condone permanently housing defenseless songbirds with conures! These are BABIES and they move out of this cage at weaning. This is a highly controversial setup that is carefully monitored delicately balanced for a purpose.

This is kind of fun.

Lyric is almost 2. He went to live with a breeder friend to make babies, but due to some life changes she decided it wasn’t wise to raise Indian Ringnecks.

Rather than being passed on to yet another home, Lyric is back with me! It just so happens that I’ll be keeping him as part of our producing flock :). He’s in quarantine at the moment but is calling to his old flock and they are calling to him! I think he’s happy to be here :)

I need a name for a lutino female lol

This nut got out of her cage because I only zip tied FIVE of the doors shut and apparently there are six doors.

She was gone for 2 days. This morning she was back. Great. On top of the cages, great.

So I opened one up and put food in it, but would she go in? NOPE! She made me HOLD THE FOOD BOWL FOR HER and personally carry her into a cage like I’m some kind of birch taxi service!

Long story short I’m in love with her now. The little punk.

Sagie-wagie, I just love you. I wish we were neighbors so I could drop in and bother you with endless visits to your aviary life adventures. I really do.
