In another non-bird post, several months ago I was celebrating the adoption of my newest siblings. Our family photos are finally in! This is our one and only picture of my parents with all 12 of us kiddos, and no, there are no grand kids or in-laws included!

I often get laughed at for how huge I think cages should be for small birds. I hate those 18x18” squares that are just tall, etc. people say “but my bird is out all the time!”

So are mine, except weeks like this, when something terrifying happens. My son is in the hospital. I couldn’t wake him up; we had to call the ambulance and rush to the ER. He’s been in the hospital for 2 days, no end in sight. Guess what? I come home to feed the birds but nobody is getting out of the cage time. I love them but I’m not doing birdie play time while my 2 year old is in the hospital.

You plan the cage for your WORST day, not your best, so your birds don’t have to suffer just because you are.

I will keep your family close in my thoughts, especially Levi.

Thinking of Levi, hope he will quickly improve and return home soon.

Excellent advice, planning ahead reduces stress for you and the flock.

Just wanted to give an update; my son is home. The reason he was not waking up was extremely low blood sugar, however extensive testing (which required some very long unpleasant fasting periods for such a little guy) could not reproduce the event. They ruled out a lot of big scary things but ultimately we don’t know what happened. I’m utterly wrung out. Nothing in my life prepared me for the terror of not being able to wake my son, for standing at the curb with him in my arms begging God to let the ambulance arrive in time. It’s very confusing to go through that and then have him be completely fine, himself, no answers.

All the birds are fine; the inside birds are grumpy, the outside flock didn’t care at all lol. Everyone got a sunflower treat anyway since I found a bag I had bought for sprouting and if I’m going to eat my feelings so can they lol.

Oh, and we will be moving again sometime April-October 2020 so I’ve started the pre-move purge early since I doubt I’ll be up to it when the new baby arrives.

So thankful Levi has returned home. You and husband must be filled with angst, not knowing the cause of low blood sugar. Is he subject to monitoring for a while to prevent another episode?

I’m so glad he’s home and fine, but how frustrating! I hope it was a weird one time event and before you know it, it’s a fuzzy memory.

Do you know where you’re moving? Local, or is your husband getting new orders?

Hi Dani, I'm so sorry that this happened to your precious boy. How low was his glucose, if you don't mind me asking?
I'm glad he is home & doing well. Thank God.

No, and no preventative measures since they have no idea what they would be trying to prevent. Basically they just said whatever it is is over now and it wasn’t anything ongoing.
