Aviary Life

Beautiful baby Cockatiels! May all the new feathers lighten your heart!
My feathered kids have learned to toss pellets to the dogs ;)
Your little one seed eating might make his bum sore later when those seeds come back out. I've munched on a few pellets just to make sure they were good enough for the birds! I have to say Tops tasted the best ;)

Laura, I agree TOPS taste the best to me also.;)

I don't give my fids anything I wouldn't eat! Unfortunately that includes many things they shouldn't eat.

I’m not going to lie, when I read this I immediately thought "EWW!" Neither the birds or I like TOPS... Leo and I like Harrison’s while Bluebell is slowly developing a taste for Zupreem Fruit Blend. I think the alfalfa grossed us out lol

We have TOPS too but it is in a higher security location or Tsali gets at it. We also have Roudybush lol.

The reason being that I want my babies to recognize multiple pellets as food along with seeds, sprouts, veggies, fruits, etc. So we feed a wide variety.

Ok, we know more now. It’s RSV. They say it’s going to get worse before it gets better, but that I don’t need to be afraid, and that he is in good hands.

This was taken earlier today before we determined the cause. He did not respond to the treatment and we ended up being transferred to another hospital.

Prayers, thoughts, and good wishes for the best possible outcome.

I had to Google RSV, I had no idea.

That photo just ripped my heart to pieces

Please keep us updated as best you can.

While I was home packing we were hit with a “microburst” or “straight line winds” which I had never heard of. It ripped the covering off the aviary and I had to rush out and catch everyone to bring them inside, all the while knowing my son was being moved by ambulance. All the birds are fine; no one was injured, it was just scary. I’m thankful I didn’t realize the damage that was being done elsewhere, I thought it was just a bit of really heavy wind and heavy rain. This short article has a gallery of pics of the damage done near me.

It’s been an eventful day. I don’t know if I mentioned I’m also sick and my husband is working 18+ hour days, sleeping at home every other night. I’m exhausted and I can’t sleep. Also the peds unit doesn’t have cots. How does that make sense? I can’t sleep in the crib, you would think they would have a cot...

Very sorry to learn Levi has RSV. I'm sure the hospital is "all hands on deck" to stabilize him and effectively treat. Healing thoughts to him and hoping your life pressures mellow soon.

Oh, the dreaded microburst. :( Responsible for several high-profile airline disasters, typically on takeoff or landing. Modern technology makes detection and avoidance possible, but they cause havoc wherever they unravel. Glad you and your flock are safe.

Best wishes and speedy healing for all of you!
(what, a sick mum and no bed for her as well? -some hospitals are weird!)

Get well soon!

Excellent news! :)

Hopefully he will soon be back to appropriating food to share with his red butt brother:D

I hope you feel better soon.

Wow. So much at once. I'm glad your baby is improving, and you are all home resting. I'm adding my wishes for a speedy recovery, and calm Avery life too! Don't forget to take care of yourself too!

Just wanted to let you all know the little man is eating again! After about 4 days of barely eating he’s so skinny :( but eating like a champ now, improving all over, running around, being his old self. In fact he learned how to open the community cage!

I’m still sick as a dog but thankfully Levi is still doing a lot of sleeping so I’m trying to take advantage of that as well after getting less than 3 hours of sleep total in 2.5 days. We are extremely thankful for the doctors and nurses who cared for him.
