The Rickeybird Scrapbook, 1984 - Updates

Piasa... yeah, The Rickeybird and I are historians of the early days of the pet-bird-boom... the days of no harnesses, seed diets, home-made cages, and no avian vets within 1,000 miles!

Birdigirl... thanks! It's a journey. When I got the Rickeybird, Ronald Reagan was President; "Footloose" was a hit movie/song; I had BIG HAIR!!!!

Gahhhhhh...

Woopsie... I've had two messages that people missed some of my previous posts here after seeing my or others' remarks about them. When I first started this thread, I was only doing one post every day or so, and then yesterday I posted a bunch. So... you may want to scroll back a bit. :)

What a beautiful house you have!
I am so glad you added several more, I love to see all the different pictures and read your stories.

I love this thread and the scrapbook. It's a very creative and fun way to express all journeys, adventures and moments with your Rickeybird and highlights. Priceless. What better way than to make a scrapbook. The timelines in the 90s are memorable, good times, and seeing changes. The chile part is funny. And I was thinking of having salsa. I very much miss Bird Talk too. I loved just going to the mail knowing that it arrived, opening pages and seeing the posters.

I love the page with the other birds he has met! That is such a neat idea. None of them are as pretty as Rickey though of course. ;)

I agree with whoever said your house is lovely! Rickey has a very nice view.

Terry, thanks for the compliments! I'm blushing.

SMB... the funny thing is... I look at the photos and magazine cut-outs, and think to myself... "it seems like yesterday!"

Minerva, you are clearly a woman who knows a good-looking senior psittacine when you see one. He's the only one who would disagree... no interest in his own reflection at all. We're actually in a different house now, and yes, of course it's all in the scrapbook!!!

GraciesMom, thank YOU for looking!!!

To everybody... can you even IMAGINE how happy I am to share after all this time? I'm telling everybody who will listen that the Rickeybird's Scrapbook is going online and being appreciated. I tell them - "See? I TOLD you it was interesting all along." I told 'em so!

Thanks to those who message me with thoughts, too.

And thanks to all, just for looking.

Onwards!

Gail, I just finished reading all of your Rickeybird Scrapbook so I am now up to date and anxiously awaiting the next installment. This thread is a happy feel good, I don't want it to end kinda thread, just like the "back in the day" western tv shows that left you with a cliff hanger (girl tied to train track with train coming:25:).

You have the makings of a wonderful book and perhaps a full length motion picture. Get on it, Girl!

Tsali, the kindest souls in the bird-world must be here. Y'all are making my heart so warm and fuzzy that it may turn into a chipmunk or something!

I'm so glad I did the scrapbook. Every page makes it all come alive again for me.

Okay, next installment on the way... I'm downloading the photos as we speak. Chat. Write? lol

Annnnnnd...

More from the scrapbook.

#1, #2. Some of my musings (very tongue-in-cheek) about the bird, his "accomplishments", shortcomings of the scrapbook, and a little picture of the two of us. These two pages were last added to in 2000. He's learned a lot more stuff since then... like J-Lo's song. MAN! I gave him the best years of my life, and he's gonna sing about another woman's booty!?
#3. Some general clippings about Patagonians from the now-defunct magazines that a few of us have been lamenting.
#4. A sample of the Rickeybird's moult in 2000. I love his colors. Red-orange, yellow, green, bronze, turquoise, slate gray...

And that's it for now.

Woopsie... I just noticed (while reviewing this thread and enjoyyyyyyyyyyyyyying) that I was slacking in noting THANKS to all those who posted here. I have since corrected that. :)

I added some more pages late last night. And today, these are the remainder of pages... until I add to the scrapbook!

#1. When digital cameras were new...

#2. We moved.

#3. The Rickeybird becomes an artist. Basically, he chews shapes into his night-time cover-sheets. I trim and mount them, and sell them along with my art (tongue definitely in cheek).

#4. The Rickeybird goes online.

#5. This is my signature here on Parrot Forum. :)

I am in love with and inspired by the Rickeybird thread.

In addition to sharing your special relationship, which is quite incredible, you have inspired others (me included) to document our individual journeys with our feathered family. THANK YOU!!

Tsali's and Archie's parronts, you guys make my day... many days! I will always be looking forward to more tales and pictures of your darlings!
