The Rickeybird Scrapbook, 1984 - Updates

Speaking of CONURE CRIMINALS, here is a little round-up of past Scrapbook images showing off photographic evidence of the Rickeybird and some of his stand-ins. See, honey, I just love all the cute stuff you come up with. A few more and we'll have enough for a calendar.

You make me smile! Such great story telling!
I worked with secretary birds once, they are beautiful!

And madame secretary is waiting at the bodega for RB.

And Madame Lash awaits!!

Madame Lash? What, she's a Dominatrix, too? All is lost! Run for your lives!

Ooooh Rival you are naughty - but I like you!!

I turn my back for just a moment,
and...
we have an unabashed celebration of psittacine debauchery!
Well!

Yes. Yes, I do.

Yes.

I do.

And now for something completely different...

Recently, I found myself staring at a huge pile of the Rb's feathers. I routinely save them for kids, crafters, and whomever may want them for whatever. But this time, I felt an urge to fiddle with them myself. I had a good assortment due to his BIGGG yearly end-of-summer molt.

I decided to raid my art supplies/stash, and I gathered up some Elmer's glue, scissors and styrofoam board, acrylic paint, and odds 'n' ends. As many of you know, I'm retired and therefore able to nerd out for extended periods of time, and so...

I commandeered the big living room coffee table, and after much sorting, sketching, puttering and playing... ta-da!!!!!! I have enough feathers for a few more projects.

If you don't already do stuff with your birds' feathers, I recommend it!
It was fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wish I was artistic...:o Nice job Ms Gail....Don't let RB see them...he may want them back!

Jim

His feathers are so big! And your work is GORGEOUS! I’d love to do something with Bumble’s cast offs, but they’re tiny. Also I’m not artistic. So I just put them all in a decorative bottle.

Jim, SO funny that you say that... about him wanting his feathers back. He stares at the stuff so seriously. You know how they do, one eye and then the other, as if to be saying "HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM..."

Inger, I hadn't even thought of the challenges of dealing with teensy-weensy feathers like Bumble's. They're beautiful in those little bottles and stuff, though!
Know what? If we were neighbors, I'd have to talk you out of a little handful of those BumbleFeathers and make you some itsy-bitsy feather jewelry. Maybe earrings or an eeny-weeny brooch?

Thanks for the private messages, my friends. Pleeeease feel free to post those pheather photos here, any time.

What would I do without y'all to appreciate my little ventures?

Omg, I've been racking my brain of things to do with his feathers - was about to give them to our milliner friend.. Thanks so much for this!!!

Tami, thank you. You are so affirming and appreciative, always!

Inger... message me, gurl!

Charmed... you're welcome! If you do make some feather works, I hope you'll show us some pictures.

My biggest concern now is running out of feathers, so I'm going to come up with smaller, more intricate designs that will take longer. It's so much fun... just fiddling with the feathers... arranging them and playing with them like puzzle pieces. I'm reminded of thr way my grandmother used to do the same sort of thing with scraps of cloth for her "crazy quilts".

Even if you don't consider yourself 'artistic'... I bet you could have some fun just buying a fan, or a basket, or a wall-decor thingie... and adding feathers here or there for a beautiful and personal item.

Our fids' feathers are so precious.

More to come.

Love this. Kevin would look at these with slit eyes and be ever so suspicious. It’s gotta be a trick or conspiracy. [emoji23]

Kevin would figure a way to charge me. Or maybe barter with popcorn. Seriously, I'm getting to know that bird. He doesn't get mad: he gets even. If his price didn't get met, he'd chew each molted feather in half until his terms were met.

Meanwhile... I'm not done with my Rb feather adventures yet.

Ah, retirement... so much time to devote to the projects du jour. I decided that I liked looking at the feather doo-dads better when they were all in one place. I rearranged and also had my ol' man make a little rack.

And here I took a flight feather, edged it with belly feathers, added some beads... cute!

If only I could think of a design or whatchamacallit or sumthin-sumthin to construct, using all the fuzzy grey down feathers that seem to collect EVERYWHERE during molts. Let's see... clouds? dandelion seed heads?? ghosts??? smoke signals????

And, in further developments...

What I see...

What the Rb sees...

EEEEEK!!!!!!
