Just heartbroken here. I have a 12 year old Pacific Parrotlet named Kiwi. Last spring, after a severe seisure, I took her to an emergency vet and then an avian vet. They thought she has some sort of infection, had her spend two nights there and sent her home with antibiotic injections. Bill was over $700. Ouch. Though she perked up, she continued to have seisures. I took her back to the vet once more, but after spending that much money, I could not afford the blood work to diagnose. The vet was also wary of taking blood from such a tiny bird...was afraid the stress would harm her.
Anyway...6 months later, and Kiwi still has seisures. She has also since gone blind. Since yesterday morning, she has basically had one continuous seisure. She cannot walk, as her feet are tightly clenched. I made an appointment with my dog's vet (not an avian vet) to euthanize her in an hour, as I just don't want her to suffer and I think that her quality of life is not good with these seisures and now blindness.
Of course now when I pick her up to cuddle before taking her to be euthanized , she perked up, ate seed that I offered, twisted her head around so I could scratch that special spot. I feel terrible now, and I don't know if I am making the right decision. She is still not walking, as her feet are clenched tight, blind as a bat, has terrible seisures.
I guess I just need reassurance that it is ok to let her go
