Green cheek conure
My green cheek conure wonā€™t let anybody go out of the house. He flies onto nearby doorframes ready to fly out as soon as the door opens. I am desperate for solutions because I donā€™t want him to escape and I donā€™t want to clip his wings either. He also flies to people to attack them. He specifically targets my mom, dad, and brother. Heā€™s fine with me snd my sister.

Can you put a curtain of some sort up against the doorway? I have Japanese style noren curtains up against my internal doorways, and one of them definitely saved my lorikeet's life when I had a meltdown in the kitchen caused by a stray bit of aluminium foil in the microwave. I ran into the kitchen to stop it and my lorikeet would DEFINITELY have flown straight in there after me if it hadn't been for the curtain - she landed on it and it gave me time to shut the door and keep her from flying straight into the fumes in the kitchen! They look like this, with the split down the middle that you walk through ...

For a door that leads outside, maybe you could try something like these magnetic curtains? I actually have some, I just haven't put them up yet, but they have a magnetic closure that closes them behind you....

Nothing can be said to be completely failsafe so you still need to be mindful, but maybe these are worth a try?

Thank you so much I appreciate the advice! Unfortunately my parents wonā€™t let me add curtains of any type because it doesnā€™t look good. Is there any way to maybe train him to stop?

Oh that's a shame, I've got a bunch of those Japanese curtains of various designs in my house and they look really nice! And they are AWESOME at keeping my birds in the living room and out of trouble - mostly - though they will always find SOMETHING to get into that they're not supposed to  Unfortunately I am pretty lousy at training so hopefully another member may be able to help you there, I'm sorry I couldn't be of more assistance to you.

if I were in your shoes and I do have 2 green cheeks, lol. I would take him out to train him maybe in your room when you are in there and hang out with him then back in the cage for a while. Are your parents and brother involved in his care as well?

Yesss the Japenose curtains are so elegant! My parents donā€™t agree tho šŸ˜‚. Luckily, my bird has stopped this habit on his own!! Thank you so much for your help

Thatā€™s a good idea. No, my brother and dad are not involved. Only my sister and I am.

I would really think about clipping him, for awhile. Just because he has seemingly stopped that behavior, I will bet a bucket of gold to a barrel of crap he has not forgotten it - just waiting for his chance! Feathers grow back. Whole birds do not!
