cute-blue-bird-crying-smiley-emoticon.gif

So... I decided it was time to Assemble The Cage Woo Hoo !! :D

Here is a Video to show some of what will be our new baby's home, keep in mind this is only the baby's first cage, I'll get a double wide when we move, soon....

3 AM Here Going to bed "early" tonight LOL

Nite Nite !!

Joe

Joe, LOVE the song "Carry on my Wayward Son" (Kansas) in the background. :D Had me singing along this early in the morning, LOL.

GREAT cage!! Did you put that together all on your own? I have 3 of those cages (in 3 different sizes), but needed help with all of them. They are holding up REALLY well, too. :)

If I was a little birdie I would not want to have my home next to a snake, that would be scaring the poop out of me thinking that it wants to eat me.

In the past I have seen on eBay someone selling custom made cage covers. Donovan has the largest cage, 4x4 and 76" tall and a cover 'might' last a little while but Kalea would have hers modified by the first morning where it would not be worth putting back on the second night. I would have to use a ladder to put it on/off and that is just not something that will be happening here LOL

I love it Joe! :) that's a cool lamp your kids got you too!

Too bad some pieces were not in great shape. I hear ya. Mine as you know, is an A&E too, which I STILL haven't had TIME to put together... But it's out of the box, and I can tell it's not "perfect" in terms of quality, but they're good enough cages for the price.

Were the locks and latches easy to put on? I can't believe they want the customer to put EVERYTHING together. I thought at least the latches would be on. Then of course that's too much labor... Keeping things cheap for us too.

Nice big door on your cage, but mine being a smaller sized cage, I am not happy with the door size. WHY the heck did they make the door SO narrow! It didn't look that bad online.

Very nice cage!!!!! Sorry your dentist appointment got rescheduled :( But I bet you had fun putting that cage together!! And I bet you guys will have loads of fun filling it with awesome perches and toys! [emoji4]

Sweet! Joe, Your baby girl is going to love her first room! Can't wait to see it furnished. Have fun fixing it up.

Sweet cage, Joe! Sorry they sent you some damaged pieces, but the cage as a whole should make your new baby bird quite happy. And I'm also looking forward to seeing it fully furnished!

Thanks Wendy, Glad I could brighten your morning with song, you KNOW we love Kansas, they still sound GREAT and have a lot of energy, we saw them last year, I'll put up some of our "bootleg" video from the show and let you know :)

My son helps me with most jobs, I didn't time it, but it went together 1,2,3, it was very easy and took less than an hour
(LOVE the "instructions" ? little square of paper, says "screw 4 sides together" REALLY?

NOTE: Future Assemblers, Electric Screw Driver makes it go FAST, AND Don't put wheels on 1st as stated....LOL

If I was a little birdie I would not want to have my home next to a snake, that would be scaring the poop out of me thinking that it wants to eat me.

That's FUNNY Yeah well the snake is not staying there, if it somehow broke out.... can't risk life of a Parrot for a snake LOL The snake is a rescue, I was in Petco and I saw it a very small tank, asked them why such a big snake is in a small tank? they said they couldn't sell it cause was too big, they gave it to me for $25 It is a very nice animal, never tries to bite and really enjoys "going for a walk" to the park, what people don't realize is boas and pythons love the warmth of their owner, so they really like hanging out around your neck or down your arm LOL

My son and I are putting together a reptile room on another floor in the building, no worries, Oh and BTW, our Zon and Plett had no fear of the snake (dummies) But our Budgie had a built in instinct he would freak out whenever he saw the snake LOL

In the past I have seen on eBay someone selling custom made cage covers. OMGoodness, I started thinking about the mechanics of this after I said I wanted a cover, Between needing a CRANE to put it on and off everyday

AND the fact (as you say) our baby may want to make "Paper Doll Chains" out of the $$$ Cover

Anyway I got a GREAT idea, get a heavy "room darkening" curtain that mounts to a track on the ceiling (just like they use in hospitals)
Pull the "pole" around the cage and the bird is in darkness and knows its bedtime, something like this:

OR
cmi7.jpg

Anyway, will let you know what I get figured VERY Soon LOL

Thanks Very Much for your input !!

I love it Joe! :) that's a cool lamp your kids got you too!

Hi Julie, I LOVE IT, so retro,(it is really old by the type of socket) looks like it fell out of "I Dream of Jeannie" LOL
It is a heavy duty "cloth" type paper (not sure) Rissa found it on ebay for $12 bucks !!

Too bad some pieces were not in great shape. I hear ya. Mine as you know, is an A&E too, which I STILL haven't had TIME to put together... But it's out of the box, and I can tell it's not "perfect" in terms of quality, but they're good enough cages for the price

I know, We got a GREAT Deal on them :) (the 20% off for email signup AND the 40% off sale COMBINED? (they should not of allowed it LOL)

My final cost for an A & E 4030 Delivered was $421.39 WOW !!!
I think it is a very well made cage for the money, built well
(except for quality control issues)

Were the locks and latches easy to put on? I can't believe they want the customer to put EVERYTHING together. I thought at least the latches would be on. Then of course that's too much labor... Keeping things cheap for us too

Very Easy, I understand and agree with their cost cutting measures
(I would rather save $100 and put them all together myself)

Nice big door on your cage, but mine being a smaller sized cage, I am not happy with the door size. WHY the heck did they make the door SO narrow! It didn't look that bad online.

Aww, very sorry Julie, what cage did you get again, I want to check the specs

Very nice cage!!!!! Sorry your dentist appointment got rescheduled :( But I bet you had fun putting that cage together!! And I bet you guys will have loads of fun filling it with awesome perches and toys! [emoji4]

Thanks Shirre, You know what? You are Right, putting the cage together was the PERFECT Therapy for us, now we can see it all the time and it did make us HAPPY

I can't wait to design the interior :D !!!

Sweet! Joe, Your baby girl is going to love her first room! Can't wait to see it furnished. Have fun fixing it up.

Thanks Allee, I know I want one of those natural "branch" perches like Shirre used in her travel cage I am Very Excited about the next part

I am concerned with leaving enough room for the bird to open his/her wings or generally have enough room just to move around in the cage
I wish I could have gotten the bigger cage but its a bit large for the space we have (Till we move anyway)

Sweet cage, Joe! Sorry they sent you some damaged pieces, but the cage as a whole should make your new baby bird quite happy. And I'm also looking forward to seeing it fully furnished!

Thanks Stephen, I do have a video of the damage but I am keeping it private
(just for Petco and A and E to see, till we see what their plan is)

My Petco Rep is head of Petco customer service (top level tier)
She is AMAZING, and stayed on this till it was done (I ordered the cage almost 2 months ago and they canceled my order because A&E was out of stock, then they were not going to honor my price)

Anyone needing the contact info just PM me

Joe

Breathing a sigh of relief about the snake. Would not be wanting any baby to be thinking it might be dinner at any time.

I love the idea of using a track to draw a curtain around. That too would be less stressful for everyone trying to put it on/take it back off again every day. I take it that his cage will be in the center of activity where you would need something like this? I have two rooms for my babies which I don't go into much after lights are out but one of the greatest things that I had done was put in a timer in the switch plate itself which turns on/off the ceiling lights.

Yes, timers are GREAT for mundane everyday tasks!
We do want the birds cage "where all the action is" We want to be as close to him/her as possible
When I get the track curtain up I'll video it !!

Thank You, By the way, did I miss your first name some where along the lines?

Great cage, Joe! And I love your accent:)

Thanks Terry, at the price I paid for it I practically stole it LOL

Yeah well us guys that spent some of our teenage years near New York, Philadelphia, and New Jersey....do speak a bit different LOL

Do you say Wudder OR Watter Or Water ?

Keep in mind we do have Some of the BEST Food!! Cheesesteaks, Tastykakes, Philly soft pretzels, Hoagies, AND the BEST Roast Pork in the WORLD !! (not even counting the GREAT ethnic foods we have)

And for us locals..... a WAWA on every corner (no not the Indian tribe)

When I was a kid I spent a few years in the Italian market in South Philly, I lived at 9th and Christian, 7th and Fitzwater, and 19th and Oregon (see text below about "Where ya from?")

"You Toucha Myi Car, I Breaka Yo Face"

Philly Dialect

Philly has its own language. Well, not a language exactly, but a "dialect" of sorts that is distinct. Natives do not notice it, visitors always do. It's our way of speaking, and we offer this guide to help you speak like you're from Philly. We were going to alphabatize this list, but later decided instead to use that New York expression which has been creeping into the Philly region, "fuggetaboutit".

How ya doin'? Translation, "How are you doing?" This is the most common and friendliest of Philly greetings. Sometimes the word "Yo" is added, such as in "Yo, how ya doin?".
Yo

A greeting, not unlike "hello". Usually more casual, like "Hi".

Where ya from?

This means exactly what it says. In Philadelphia, however, a native will respond with street intersections, such as "8th and Catherine" or "Broad and Shunk" to indicate their home. A broader generalization of this is "South Philly" or "The Northeast". Nearby cousins simply say they are from "Jersey" which says it all.

Down the shore

The Jersey shore. Philadelphians never go "to" the shore, or "to" the beach. They always go down the shore. Often pronounced "downashore"

Hoagie

A submarine sandwich, only it is not a "sub" or a "hero" or a "grinder" or anything else. It is a hoagie. This sandwich is second only to the cheese steak.

Iggles

Philadelphia's NFL football team. Known elsewhere as the Phiadelphia Eagles. Also known as simply The Birds. Sometimes known as "dose bums".

The carbonated beverage that comes in a can or bottle. It is not "pop" or anything else. It is soda.

Love the flapping in slow motion. Your kids all seem so happy with him :)

Joe, that's such sweetness!! :D I'm so glad you and your family were able to visit yesterday. I knew that must be where you were!

So tell me :)... now that they're calling him a "he", is that what YOU guys were thinking all along, or did you think girl like a lot of others here?

Thank You April, It's the happiest I've seen my daughter in a LONG time, when the baby starts flapping it really gets to Rissa and she says "Aww, I miss you", in the last flap of his wing he put downward pressure on Rissa (you can see it) and Rissa says "Aww, He's giving me a hug" and then the baby calls, Precious Moment for me :)

It is Great getting this time to bond with baby

I feel like he is starting to "remember" us (this is the 4th visit) but it might just be him growing up, or just wishful thinking

His Tongue was really on the move this visit, touching everything ! He was very tactile with my son Justin "tasting" his arm

Well the thing is I don't really count because my decision was based on the workers from from the get go (instead of judging the bird)

We don't really know yet, maybe they just call all of them "he" ?
DNA will be done as soon as I bring the bird home (4 to 6 weeks !!)

I am working on Marybeth's (95talongirl) HH video now and will have it up in the next hour

Thanks Julie !!
