Earlier this year we met Max, a 34 year old Green wing looking for a home. He has a serious heart condition and had been on different medication that made him very sick. So they decided along with the advice of the Avian Vet to take him off the medication and just give him a good quality of life.

My husband fell in love with him and we would visit him weekly, unfortunately for Max- my Katie picked us. We both love her to pieces but she’s definitely my bird.

My husband has been talking about Max for months now, and we started visiting him again. Well after seeing him light up when we would visit him, we decided to give him a forever home!!!

He had been at the rescue place for over 2 years (his original owner passed away) it’s a wonderful place but he was still mostly in his cage [emoji17] Well no more closed cages for Max!!

We brought him home this week and giving him tons of love and patience!!

He’s been chattering up a storm and coming in and out of his cage constantly- almost like he can’t believe he gets to come out of his cage. He has stepped up to every one in the house- kids included!! [emoji33] He is just a big sweetheart.

My heart is so full ❤️

That is awesome!
How is the prognosis, when not on the medications?

His vet said because he was getting so sick on the medicine it was better for him to come off it. He’s on bird probiotics right now, but other than that’s it. His vet said his heart could last years and years or only a few years. We just want his life to be full of love!

Love the photo of your GW!!! Any advice from one GW parrent to another??

He seems to me like a gentle giant! My Katie (Catalina) has a sassy and funny personality. Max observes us all, and he likes to be held a lot. He hasn’t let us give him head scratches yet, we are taking our time with that. Yesterday he did bite me on purpose while putting him back in his cage, I almost laughed because all he did was drag his beak on my skin! Barely even left a mark! I’ve had 100x worse [emoji12]

Love this big guy to pieces ❤️❤️❤️

Setting boundaries early and having a routine! Sounds like he has learned the pressure of his beak, so hopefully that continues as you get to know each other. Just reward him each time he gets in his cage. Treats, a few more minutes of attention. You want him to associate it as being good and show him that it doesn't mean he'll be ignored.

"live long and prosper" Max! :) And thank you and hubby for taking this handsome creature into your home and hearts.

Thank you!! He’s been such a well behaved boy and stepped up and gotten in his cage every time. He definitely is food driven and loves Macadamia nuts!

It’s still so early though, time will tell! I’ve learned that they can be so sweet one day and turn into complete boundary-pushers the next [emoji23]
