Ona’s Thread

I think she likes it 😊

I want to hang it from the ceiling over her play stand. Right now it’s just hanging off her stand.
Oh she's loving that! You should put a bell on the end of that chain so she can summon you like Lovejoy did to me at 0520 this morning. Or not!!

Tonight, for the first time ever, I'll be leaving Ona with a bird sitter 😭

This is the sitter Ona met recently that is an avian vet tech. And Ona really loved her when they met. I know she will be ok but I'm not looking forward to being without my little girl :( How am I supposed to get through my daily routine without a little bird on my shoulder? :(

We will drop her off tonight and pick her up Sunday. I'm going to try to explain to her later that we are doing this and maybe it will help. I hope she won't be too upset with me.

Aw…how sad! I know how hard this must be for you!
That’s wonderful that she appeared to like the sitter though, I’m sure that makes you feel much better.

Awww, I'm sure she'll be just fine, maybe even look at it like a play date/sleep over. I totally understand from your perspective though. They become an integral part of the daily routines, and it confuses everything when they're not there. On the rare occasions that I go away, I get up every morning and worry that everything is being done the way they demand. And wow, do they demand. 🤣

You are SO lucky to have an avian vet tech as a sitter! My vet has a similar arrangement, his daughter operates a bird boarding service via his clinic, and she's a vet nurse as well. It takes SOOOOOOO much of the stress of out having to leave them. Ona will be very well cared for while you're away, and what a bonus that she likes the sitter too!

Just dropped her off 💔

The sitter is so sweet. She even bought her some toys in a little bag that said “Welcome Ona”. She will be there with her all weekend.

I miss her already and it’s been 30 mins.

Don't worry, Ona will probably have lots of fun staying up past her bedtime, playing with her toys and eating treats!

Ona is home!!!

It was a huge success with the sitter! I am fortunate to have found such a great sitter so close by! She spent all weekend with Ona and really seemed to enjoy having her. She said Ona spend most of the time on her shoulder or trying to perch on her glasses 😂 She practiced some of her tricks with her and said Ona was "incredible at them". She even took her on a walk in her backpack! Apparently Ona also liked her roommate and flew to him a couple times when he would leave the room. The sitter said "she is definitely the type of bird that wants to be involved in what you are doing and with you." Sooo true.

When I went to pick her up I didn't know what to expect with how she would react. She was silent when she was me, but she did puff up and hop to my finger when I offered it. She gave me a kiss and asked for scritchins. BUT later when we were gathering up her cage and things, she flew to the sitter’s shoulder, gave her a kiss, and then when I tried to tell her to step up so we could leave she refused and gave me a tiny pinch of defiance!! 😂 Sooo... I think she was a little mad.

She seemed a tiny bit disoriented when we first got home but has settled back in by now. She's already asleep for the night because the bird sitter gets up earlier than we do and she was tired.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww, welcome home Ona! I'm so glad everyone had a great weekend and the great experiment with the sitter was so successful - she sounds wonderful!

I think Ona said “good bird“ today. She said it when begging for my husband’s food 😂

She contact called for the outside birds today and at some parrots in a YouTube video 🥲

Ona is such a spoiled princess! My Rocky is pretty spoiled too. Today she decided our little bag of Skinny pop was hers, and we let he have it..

It's fun sharing (plain) popcorn with Rocky because it's a snack that doubles as a bird toy! We started throwing pieces at her and they're so light and airy that they bounce right off her, so she turns and chases us away from her new pile of edible toys. Then she flaps and scatters the popcorn everywhere!

Did Ona get any of her dad's food? I mean, saying "good bird" and appealing to him with those big dark eyes of hers, how could he resist??

She did not! He does often share pizza crust or a small French fry with her though…..

Probably for the best. At least she is well-mannered enough to ask whereas Lovejoy is not. I have to cage him at meal time otherwise he just jumps in feet first which gets VERY messy, 'specially if it's his dad's toast with Vegemite on it - I do NOT need that stuff all over his little feets!!

Oh she does not always ask haha! She has jumped right in my food more than once the little stinker. I have to cage her when I am eating pizza or fries. She will not take no for an answer!!

I think it’s safe to say Ona knows our routine! Around the dogs feeding time we always say “go outside!” and make their bowls. They get all excited and Ona usually joins the excitement by screeching and flying around.

Today we were playing a game and were late to feed the dogs. Ona just started screeching at the top of her lungs out of nowhere and tried to say something, maybe “go outside”. So we start feeding the dogs and she’s then quiet and satisfied 😂 Are they bribing her?!

Edit to add: snuggle cuddle post bath. She says please hold my beak.
