I have an African Grey and a Citron crested Cockatoo. One thing I've always struggled with is how expensive their toys are, and then how quickly they rip them to shreds (cockatoo especially!) Recently I reviewed some toys that are hand made, very durable, safe, and also affordable (a combination that's been hard to come by for me). I'm very impressed on all levels, check it out

Hello from California!! We have a Congo African Grey named Rockefeller, he's 18 months old & is definitely a character... I'm looking forward to discussing all of the fun & not so fun stuff that Parrots do!! We are in the process of finding him some insurance, any suggestions?? :grey:

Hello all
I just recently bought a Green Cheek Conure at the pet store yesterday. There were only 2 left from the origanal 20 at the beginning of summer. He is not to social right now and every time we try to interact with him, he tries to hide in the farthest corner of the cage. Can someone please help me as to what my wife and I should do to tame him!! We are just afraid that he will be like this forever

Hi, I am new to this forum and new to parrot ownership. I adopted Charlie, a 17 year old blue and gold Macaw 1 week ago. I knew I would be adopting him for the past 1 1/2 years so I had time to do some reading and preparing for his arrival. We also had time to get to know each other before he moved in with me. Charlie is a very sweet bird. I am a visiting nurse and Charlie's owner was a patient of mine. His owner had liver cancer and died on 11/30. So far the transition is going fairly well. Only one neighbor has complained of the noise so far. I had Charlie at the vet today and that went very well. He answered many of my questions. I am joining this forum in anticipation of having many more questions that more experienced parrot owners may be able to help me with.

hi! im looking for any advice from you experienced parrot owners. i adopted "paddy" an african grey only 3 days ago and when we got him home all was going great as he took to me quickly and he was letting me pet him to begin the bonding process but then last night i went to bed but quickly had to run to the rescue as he was screaming as loud as he could, when i got to him i found him all tied up in two thin chains holding up his swing! one wing was all caught up so i was forced to take him and the swing out so i could figure out how to free him which only took 2 mins and i put him back in minus the swing.today if i go to the cage door let alone close to him he is making an awful noise ovbiously telling me to keep away! he seems to blame me for the mess he got himself into!! anyway im leaving him alone to give him some space but he has'nt eaten or drank anything for 12 hrs now. errrr HELP PLEASE! i only hope this setback is temporary as im eager to be friends!

Hi my name is Selina and I have just addopted a Corella Cockatoo who is 11yrs old named Luna. She was owned by her last owner all her life but she had to give her up as she was leaving the island and going back to live in the UK.
I live in Tenerife.
I also take care of 2 lovebirds and 12 zebra finches.
and lots of other animals.
I am glad I've found this place as I am new to keeping this kind of bird and want her to have a happy life with me and my family.

Hi my name is Vicky and I currently own a Yellow Crowned Amazon named Murphy!

He isn't the best behaved of parrots, but he is loved dearly by my family and he is a great character to have in the house.

I also have a 10 week old puppy named Jack, who Murphy is yet to discover a friendship with!

Nice to meet you all!

Hi everyone,
I currently own 2 quakers and a timneh who i have adopted.
I am recently disabled so I am home 24/7. I have to say that my birds are the light of my life. We actually sing while we clean out cages. I am a bit of a clean nut when it comes to housing, but all the fids do appreciate that. I feed zupreem, and also depending of fid, I feed fruit, nuts, and some seed. Kraft dinner and peanut butter are a hit for special snacks here as well. All the fids have a training session a day, and cuddles. I feel blessed to have such wonderful fids who have all been rehomed and are well adjusted and living in a happy flock. I feel a queen with 3 wee angels. I hope to hear from you all in the future, especially when I do have a new baby to introduce to my flock.
Thanks to you all and bright blessings for 2012.
Annie

Hi, my name is Kristy and I've been around birds for nearly 20 years. I didn't own any for a while and recently acquired a few "misfits." I have a splayed-legged/handicapable lovebird, JoJo. Don't tell her there's anything wrong, she gets around just fine, if not better. I also rescued a little green parrotlet, Perry:greenyellow:, whose previous owner didn't want him any more and a green-cheeked conure, Jack, who was handled for 5+ years with only an oven mitt. Recenlty, I rescued a blue fronted Amazon parrot who is severely malnourished and had all of her wing feathers trimmed off. :green: She is 3 1/2 years old and we changed her name to Angel. When I got her, the lady who trimmed her nails watched as her nails/claws began falling apart and shredding in her hands. It was sad, but I took her home and within 2 days, she is already bonding with me. She has fit into our family very well. Hoping to obtain tips and advice on caring for a larger bird!

Hey Kristy, Welcome to the forum. Thanks for giving these birds a 2nd chance. I'm hanging around the amazon section most of the time, contact me if you have questions, lots of good members here who love to help, good luck, capt and Jake the YN

Hello to everyone here. I would like to introduce myself, my name is musiclady420. I have three cockatiels(Pretty Baby is a male Grey and is 18 years old; Flappy is a Lutino male and is 15 years old [We though he was a female by the way Pretty Baby acted, lol]; and Scrat is a male Cinnamon Pearl and age unknown[Rescue]). I also have Tyson, a Severe Macaw who is 3 years old and keeps me on my toes!
I would also like to pay homage to my other birds I have had in the past-Pretty Peepers was a male blue parakeet who I trained to come outside with me by time I was 6 years old and he lived for 14 years and had a wife Sassy Baby who lived 7 years both produces 32 babies which I didn't have to take care of any of them because they were such great parents(no I didn't keep any of them due to my parents) Peepers died 3 months after Sassy; Old Flappy was a female lutino cockatiel who was given to me just before Peepers and Sassy died, Old Flappy lived one year and died from French Molt; Cujo was a cinnamon pearl cockatiel who was rescued with Scrat(by this time I had Pretty Baby and Flappy for 10 years) he died of unknown causes; Fido was a male Black-headed Caique who was my first bird I purchased from a breeder and I will never do that again because he only lived for two years and died from intestinal bleed from an unknown cause. He was only bird I ever had that didn't live past two years!
Also, I know this is a parrot forum but I also miss my two ferrets Fred and Barney(both girls) who I surrendered to the Greater Chicago Ferret Rescue when I couldn't afford Chemo for their cancer. But they both went to a great home that could afford the chemo treatments, they are still living.
I also have two dogs-Ricknick is a female Border Collie mixed with ? and she is 8 years old; V is a Siberian Husky(AKC) and he is 12 years old.

Hi guys and gals. This is Simon. I am here because i found thing over here quite interesting. talking about my bird pet, i have a parrot who is really a bad one. He never listen to me and always do things opposite, what i say to him.

So im new to the bird thing my boyfriend got the crazy idea one day to buy two ring neck parrots and I was terrified of them but am getting more used to them we have a male named capone and a female named gotti and are just trying to feel our way around the birds world lol trying to teach them nor to bite and be trusting of us first of all and trying to teach them a word to start off with. Im hoping that this will be full of information since we are new to parrots and most of the information we have found out there hasnt been really credible.
