Hi, my name is Susan and I live in SW Virginia. I have a Hahn's Mini-Macaw, Zazu; a White-Front Amazon, Jewel; 4 Budgies - Sunny, Sugar, Blueberry & Snowflake, and 2 Cockatiels - Pepper & Pearl. Zazu and Jewel are both 11 years old and have been with me since they were weaned. They have to have their cages right next to each other or they get upset. My budgies are between 2 and 5 years old. I adopted the Tiels with the intention of just fostering them and must rehome them.

I have severe asthma and am allergic to Cockatoo and Cockatiel dust. I agreed to take in the Tiels only after I saw them in a filthy, rusty small rabbit cage. Their food and water dishes were on the floor of the cage and nasty. Their only perch was a small branch from a bush, I kid you not, held in place with duct tape! The female's tail feathers were almost completely gone. Apparently, they were owned by an old woman who had a stroke and had to go into a nursing home. The Tiels were only about 1 year old when I got them and so are somewhere between 2-1/2 and 3 years old now.

Like I said, this was only supposed to be a temporary home. I wheeze whenever I'm around them so they have to stay in their cage. I had a larger unused cage that I had kept in case of an emergency, so they have a lot more room than that rabbit cage. I named them because I was told they didn't have names. The female is a Pearl Pied and Pearl is her name. The male is a White-Face and named Pepper. He talks; he learned on his own to say, "Pretty, pretty Pepper," and "Give me a kiss, Pepper." They are both beautiful, healthy birds and very sweet.

I really don't want much money for them; just for the food I have and some of their toys. I hope someone can help me find a home for these sweet birds!

Hi everyone,

My name is Kiwi and I just got a 5 months old Blue Headed Pionus, my dream bird for years! Te baby Poe maybe a girl, not for sure yet for no DNA testing has been done. She is the perfect bird so far. She is cuddly, funny, smart, healthy and even learned to say "what are you doing?" already! I am pretty familiar with Parrots but this is the first Pionus and would love to get advises and share stories with people with Pi!

Thank you for saving these poor birds! That sounds absolutely horrible! I hope you find good homes for them, it may help to make a post in the rehoming section though, and post where you are from since this in an international forum.

Hi there I'm Ashleigh :),
Im new to this site, and I currently own 2 cats and a Alexandrine(Louis)
Ive Had Louis for about 4months now, and hes already starting to say hello. :D
He was aviary breed, and didn't have any human handling.
When I first got him, he was very frightened of me and my family.
But now he loves us all, he doesn't bite. He comes to you on command, when you say "come on". :D
And he loves scratches and pats.
I'm surprised to see how much hes changed<3.
He's about 1 years old? I think.

I'm great to find that I found this lovely site.

I'm Lailah, and I have a wonderful, albeit plucked, mess of a bird named Harley. He is a 5 year old rescue Harlequin Macaw, and my first bird. I got him about 5 months ago.

Hi all my name is Rob and I am a newcomer to the parrot world! I have just taken on a 47 year old blue fronted amazon and am gradually learning about him in the past three months after his third owners no longer wanted him. I took him to the vets when I first got him as his nails were awfully overgrown and the vet said he was in good health after weighing him and giving him the once over.
I have noticed yesterday that he has not been himself he is very subdued, not talking at all and appears to be making a quiet squeaking noise when going to the toilet as if it is hurting him. It is almost as if he has diarreah although he hasn't had any different foods. He is still drinking and eating But reluctantly. Any help or ideas or treatment would be gratefully received.
Many thanks

Welcome to the forum Rob! I would get your bird to a vet asap. Birds can go downhill very fast when they are sick. Best of luck!

Hi there my wife and I have just taken in a young senegal parrot as well as a 3 year old green cheek ,both came from the same home it was not a bad situation thankfully, and it seems to be going well. Timmy the green cheek is well setteled and attached to my wife. Doja the senegal likes to grace me with her presence when she wants a scratch. I do have some questions about senegal behavior. Doja really prefers her cage top, or being scratched in her cage. Also She does this thing that seems like being a " baby." she will drop semi open her wings and start bobbing and chatting. It is really cute, and she is really reseptive and tries to mimic constantly while she is doing it. While her and I are playing the " baby" game this evening she decided she wanted to bite me. It was not a play bite, it broke the skin but not enough to draw blood. She continued to try to bite me on the walk to her cage. Anybody have and insight please share. All in all we couldnt be happier.

I am a new member but an old parrot person. I have 3 feathered kids: Hyacinth Macaw, Green Wing Macaw and Red Fronted Macaw. We have had parrots for about 15 years and truly love them and all of their antics! I came here in response to a post about the death of our avian vet here in Maryland, Dr. Zantop. It look like a great site and there are actually people in my area on here!

Hey everyone!

My name is Amber, I live in the Toronto area and am currently pursuing my masters in philosophy. I have a pet parrot named Rosie, she's a bright green Pocket Parrot (or, Parrotlet I guess). I'm not sure how old she is, as she belonged to my aunt first- I think she had Rosie for about a year before giving her to me (she didn't have enough time to spend with her, as she has three dogs already). But, I am fairly sure that she's no more than 3 years old. I'm a new parrot owner, and am still learning about body behavior, bonding, and the silly little things she does.

It's awesome, though, that I can join a forum like this and meet some other people who also have parrots- and maybe even get some tips :)

Looking forward to talking with all of you!

-Amber

hey everyone ...i'm new here and would like to say hello:blue:

Hey... I just started looking into this forum to get some info on a few problem areas my birds have. I have a 6 year old African Grey rescued off Craigslist. Her name is Cooper... (we were told that she was a he, now we suspect otherwise. Oh well!) she now gets pellets and/or fresh fruits and veggies every day, and lots of toys. She has a great personality and vocabulary. The best decision ever!

She made me fall in love with birds. I recently got another, a Sun Conure. Loki was born Aug 26 of this year, and is completely different than Cooper. I'm afraid I spoil them, but I guess that that is not such a bad thing. I also have a siberian husky, Kira, and a goldfish named Horatio. :)

Welcome to the forum! :) You will find lots of friendly, helpful people here. Share somem pictures when you have time.... we all love pictures ;)

hello, my name is Mary! My bf and I just got a blue and gold macaw she is such a wonderful bird. =]
