New Members

Hi I'm Laura just thought i would introduce myself to the group :) thanks for letting me join!! REally looking for information on introducing my new feathered friend to my flock..

I have decided to take on a blue and gold macaw that a lady in my city has advertised. I have cared for parrots for years and i have the time to look after a macaw now. she is advertising her because the macaw has started learning to not listen from her 5 children and she needs stability basically... I went to view the bird on monday and every evening since with treats so that she knows to trust me when i introduce her to my home.. she comes with an absolutely huge cage 6ft by 5ft and toys but I'm going to wait a couple of weeks to make sure I have completely prepared my home for her arrival.. shes 2 years old believed female.. has been getting a bit plucky due to not having enough time spent with her. My question is am I doing the correct thing in going to visit her in her old home so I am familiar in her new one? I feel that I am. As she has accepted me already and has started licking my fingers and letting me scratch her beak already, also I am in the process of making her toys, is coconut shellls and wicker good ideas for macaw toys as i know she chews through things quickly..? Thanks :) i am going to buy her toys but I think it would be nice to make some aswell

Hello everyone,
I found this website/forum while searching for information on corn on the cobs and parrots. Stayed a while and liked what I was reading. Twenty years ago we inherited a yellowheaded green Amazonian. Polly is now 64 years old. She has had two strokes which left bent in half with her head beside her feet. A trip to vet, and several months of my doing physio with her and she has been fine ever since, though lost her 'speech'.

I am a Companion Animal Behaviourist and Trainer and now work with many clients with parrots. Great fun and sometimes amazing!

Hi everyone, I just joined but I was searching for my ex who has an Umbrella Cockatoo she cannot keep anymore and I was getting allergic to. I sent her this website so she could join
Vivian is the birds name about 8 years old, very tame. She lives in Vallejo, CA.
I will check in with her and make sure she does join. Thank you for letting me post. I will also check in too. Jackie

Hi All!

I'm very glad to have found this nice forum.. it has come to be very useful to me. I have a new Quaker.. my very first parrot. He kind of fell into my lap.. I decided on getting a Quaker in about 6 months and while I was doing research my boss/friend from work called and told me someone surrendered a pair of breeder Quakers and their 4 month old baby. I had to take him and he's the sweetest little bird. We named him Tuki.

I've got some questions so here I am! Can't wait to get to know everyone!

Hi from the Cotswolds

Hello to all.

In the early 1990's I used to look after someones amazon throughout the year when they returned to the States for 2-3 months at a time. The amazon was one that had been trapped in the wild and was extremely challenging to look after but overall, I loved its company and was always sad to return him to his owners. The experience sowed a seed in me to one day own my own bird.

A friend of mine recently lost her husband who owned an orange winged amazon. It comes from a breeder and is 4 years old. I enjoyed a good relationship with the bird and would spend lots of time with it when I visited. A few weeks ago, my friend asked me if I would take her late husbands bird as my own as she is downsizing her house and would like the amazon to go to a good home. I of course accepted and at some point in the future, my amazon 'Maxi' will be moving in once my friend has sold her house.

I have done loads of research over the years and don't pretend to know it all but I wanted to link up with other amazon owners to tap into their wealth of knowledge to increase my own.

Its good to be here and I look forward to posting soon.

Hello,
I'm new to the forum too,

Thank you! Tonight I signed up for this forum because I live in Rockledge Florida and have a wonderful peach faced lovebird and I am in search of a loving, caring, compassionate and experienced person to watch him while on vacation. My little guy isn't one to be stuck in a cage and left alone. He IS the baby of our home.
Any suggestions? Thanks

My Peach face love bird is 1 years old and started training her. She speaks well.. She is too good.

Good mornin' everyone. My name is Paula. I am a new member and enjoy the forums and great advice I have read. I had a congo African grey, some friends came from out of town, they thought she was clipped, when they opened the door it startled her and out she flew. Some great friends got me a cinnamon cockatiel for the company. She is a feisty little thing.10 weeks old and a tad aggressive. We are working on that. I am open to all advice on taming her so that the kids can play with her. :red:
