Need advice from all the smart people here!

Ok, so two days into this experiment and I am already a bundle of nerves and I am freakin' out about everything ... Ok, so little Hamlet is doing two things that have me and the other half worried ... he is (what we think) coughing and sneezing, he has an appointment for next Thursday (7 days from now) for a check-up, and I mentioned to the receptionist (when I made the appoinment) that we had herd him sneeze a few times and she said that she would talk to the doc and get back to me ... she never got back to me ... everything I have been reading is that this is not a good thing (the coughing and sneezing) ... do you guys have any reassuring words, cause I could really use them!

misty sneezes quite frequently especiall when she is a little chilled or after she has preened herself. just to be safe you could try putting a microwave type heating pad in or outside of his cage to keep him warm.WHERE are our pictures!!!!???

I have heard skippah sneeze a couple of times.
I wouldnt panic yet, but I wouldnt ignore it.
Skippah scratces his head now and then, so I had been thinking mites, but Skippah just had an itchy head.
I know what paranoia can be like.
I hope your just being paranoid.

Ok I may not be one of the smart people here yet

But, when I took my baby to the vet she sneezed in front of her
Usually she puffs up shakes and then makes sneezes/cough sound
The Vet asked me if she did that excessively and I told her no. The vet told me it is normal for them to make that noise but if it starts to get out of hand to bring her back in.
Birds have a highly developed repertory system and anything in the air can bother them and even kill them.
I must first ask if you know that you shouldn’t be spraying anything in or around the bird, some people say not even in the house (Peta: What is a good distance?) That includes perfume, hair spray, candles, air freshener any thing along that line. There is a story I have read about a guy (who did not know this) put out one of those automatic fabreeze sent stories (new product) It wasn’t in or around there 13 teils he had but after and hour, I believe 7 of them passed on.

Yeah, no, there is NO AIR SPAY anywhere in the house ... the only think I can think of is there is a little bit of dust in the apartment, we are hoping that that is what is causing it ... I think there is going to be a HEPA filter in the future ... maybe even a humidifier (it's kinda dry in here too) we are going to try that (along with the vet appointment next week) and we will see if that helps.

Remember also that bird create their own dust, feather dust. Some times if you look carefuly you will see it "POOF" off him when he does the puff ball look. Some of Crickets toys look like they have been sitting around for ages and all it is is her feather dust.
I am guessing your birdy sneezing is nothing to worry about, but when you take him to the vet, do mention it to them just in case.

well, he is very lively this morning ... throwing food, talking, drinking and feeling very needy, I think it may have just been stress of coming home and getting adjusted, he seems like he's OK ... will keep a watchful eye on him for the next few days ...

First of all are his nostrils clear?

I would get back in touch with the vets and ask to speak to The Vet, after all thats why we pay them the big bucks.

Bucc will sneeze and cough, especially when he hears one of us do it. Try not to worry too much, but if he starts doing it a lot I would get back in touch with the vet and tell them you need your appointment changed to straight away. Please let us know how he gets on at the vets.

That is why I am not pounding on the vet's door this morning ... everything is clear and he seems to be doing fine ... really active this morning ... I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that PetCo kept him in a room that was like 85-90 degrees F and I can only keep my apartment at like 72 degrees F ... I know he can't be cold but I wonder if the tempature change might have had something to do with it.

Hi there ,Roxy sneezes quite a bit...I thought it may be the dog...or central heating. She is more incline to do it after a preen. But she is eating seems happy and I didnt worry as there was no snot...do birds get snot?
However NOW im worried so allow me to share your paranoia.

That is probably it. No he won't be cold but the change has probably thrown him for a while, once he gets used to it he'll be fine. Mention it to the vet when you go and make a note of when and how often he does this. Its always better to be safe. Keep us informed of how he gets on with the vet.

Karen I don't think you've much to worry about, Are Roxy's nostrils clear and by that I mean are they blocked or crusty or running?

I give Bucc a quick check over every week or two, nostrils eyes and vents just to make sure that they are all clear a bird is so clever at hiding any illness that they get. I think we all get a little paranoid over our birds at times and there's nothing wrong with that in my mind. It just shows that we care.
