Budgies Sky (RIPšŸ’”), Tweety, and Vanilla
Hi everyone!! I just wanted to ask about the signs of sickness in budgies. I had 2 budgies and one of them was sick a month ago so I took him to the vet (we donā€™t have any avian vets near us) they tried saving him but said it was too late and he died the same day after hours of trying to give him medication to save him. The vets told me the other one, tweety, was healthy but Iā€™m concerned he might be sick as he hasnā€™t been very active lately and only goes out of the cage for a little while before going back in again. I am trying and I clean the cage everyday and change the water daily but I donā€™t know what else I can do to keep him healthy. I also provide him with veggies like carrots, cucumber(occasionally), lettuce and watercress. Also his poop has been a bit more runny than usual lately and sometimes smaller than usual. I attached a picture of him this morning maybe it might help

Heartbreaking...

All I can offer is this.

Certified Avian Vets
If none are near you...
Avian Veterinarians
In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.
International contacts, too.
If none are near you, maybe you could call and ask for a recommendation for somebody in your area.
And... sometimes, distant vets will offer brief thoughts or advice...
Or... sometimes I find a place to start just by Googling "avian veterinarian near ((your location))"
Or maybe a local breeder might help... again, maybe Google?

If you canā€™t get him to a vet right away, then keep him in a warm, stress-free environment. Ideal temperature for sick budgies is 85-90F. If he gets weaker, place him on a low perch and make sure heā€™s eating and drinking. In my understanding of your situation, his symptoms arenā€™t too severe yet, so I hope you can get him the care he needs.

Thank you so much for your support. Iā€™ve been trying to make sure he eats and drinks when I am home and I have searched for the vets but the closest one is over 2 hours drive so I canā€™t go alone. Iā€™m going to do as you said with the temperature thing until I can take him to the vet. Itā€™s all coming at a really stressful time though because Iā€™m in the middle of exams but hopefully he can be cured and can be healthy and happy again. I will also be searching for local breeders in my area just in case anything doesnā€™t go according to plan..maybe theyā€™ll know how to help. He still chirps normally, even screams when fighting with vanilla, and acts normal just not as active.
