do you plan on using it for a parrot???? sometimes those cages are just for decor, and don't or can't hold parrots for long... what's it made out of?

Looks decorative to me....Round cages are not great for birds. It's very pretty though.:)

Its not decorative because its so big and also has a removable tray for cleaning. its made out of wrought iron. I am thinking about using it.
thanks for the replies

I dont believe its decorative because the bar spacing is only about an inch. At first i was thinking about selling it because i know its worth more than what i bought it for. Now i think i might get a larger parrot like maybe a macaw or a cockatoo. It looks smaller in the pics because i dont have anything to give it scale. Also the pics are taken with a phone so theyre not the best quality. I will post more pics. I would greatly appreciate input or info about the cage.

in the darker pic i was trying to show that it does in fact have a tray

Also, if i decided to paint it, what kind of paint is safe for parrots?

Thanks

It is a very beautiful cage and in terms of over all volume quite suitable, but I would not recommend using it for a parrot. As SharonC said parrots don't do well in round cages, they feel very insecure. If you were to use it, I wouldn't be using it for anything larger than a conure, there is simply not enough space for a larger parrot to move around, especially species with long tails (definitely not suited for a macaw at all). The cage bars are probably too far apart for most species smaller than conures so its really not that suitable for anything IMO. You might get away with a cockatoo in there but I wouldn't. A cage like that comes from an era where birds were treated like decorative ornaments and not companion parrots. It may be 3' diameter but that is only at dead center so any perches near the outside won't provide enough space for a large parrot to spread their wings or turn around without bumping into the edges. I suggest you sell the cage and use the cash to invest in a nice big powder-coated or stainless steel, rectangular type cage.

Welcome to the forum by the way, this is a great community, feel free to ask questions there is always someone willing to chime in. :)

I second that opinion. It's hardly suitable for a parrot to live in, the round shape and the small size would make the bird feel very insecure. I wouldn't recommend keeping a parrot in there, but if you're sure you want to; I would recommend keeping something like a budgerigar, canary, a parrotlet, or possibly a lovebird. Just anything small and short-tailed.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I will try to sell it but I'm still not sure what its worth. Shipping is going to be rediculous because its about 100lbs and so large

I think a good starting price might be $100, don't you think? It's a pretty good size, but I wouldn't charge much more than that because it isn't brand new. If it's actually been used, then a bidder may actually try asking you to lower the price even further.

i found a few of the same cage on ebay. 2 were in terrible condition, rusted and missing the tray. one even had a leg broken off. They were both going for $200, I also found one in similarr condition as mine. It was going for $600. I checked the shipping prices on fedex and i was quoted at $730 for something that large. I think im going to put it on craiglist and try $400 pickup only. I will sell it as a decorative cage because im afraid that a small parrot might get its head stuck in the bars. I measured the bar spacing at 1 1/4". Thanks for all the help. I appreciate everyones input on the matter.
