Larger parrot issues

That dog crate is just what I was thinking might work for Nico! I used a much larger crate as a sort of playpen for my Quaker when I first got him and he was still too aggressive for me to have him loose but I didn’t want him stuck 24/7 in the too- small cage he came with. Glad this seems to be working for your buddy ❤️

That looks great for my GCC. I don't know about larger birds. I don't like the see thru plastic, could be hot but I have no experience.
Nico doesn’t like the see through plastic either. He started to bang his beak as hard as possible on it. He refused to eat, and screamed the entire time he was in it.

I returned the plexiglass travel cage.

Maybe one day Nico will decide to participate in everything offered. Until that day he is going to be picky as possible about everything.

Hi everyone,

I had to purchase Nico a new travel carrier/cage. Pictures will be below. Soft sided ones Nico learned to unzip, or he destroys them. I bought a cheap cockatiel cage for travel Nico also learned to get out of that one, and the bars were easily bent. Now I’ve purchased this plexiglass, stainless steel one that’s in the pictures below. I can’t find anything out there for larger parrots.

Does anyone have any ideas for a larger travel carrier/cage? I’m out of ideas.

Thank you for the help. I’ve only had a large parrot for 3 years. I’m still learning, and I keep running into these problems.

Prevue Carrier $94 on Amazon and is big enough for an eclectus

With the plexiglass type I worry about air flow
But then I tend to worry too much apparently

Although this is an old Thread it clearly covers the vast concerns that Travel cages have when one is dealing with the Larger Parrots that have very powerful bills, highly intelligent and can place hours into how to turn whatever is placed between them and where they want to be!

Our DYHA is 500 grams of pure muscle and has with easy fully disassembled his large cage. Carrier cages are simple for him.

Your large Male Eclectus is every bit as smart and committed as he has to dig his lady and baby out of the tree nest! The weak points are the door and access openings with the bolts and nuts that hold it all together.

Locks are very important as the common slide locks on cages are easy for near all Parrots.

I don't know how many travel cages my CAG demolished. Metal bars bent, hard plastic chewed, and more. I tried several styles and types. In frustration I trained him to an avian harness. That's made a big difference. Now the harness means outside, even if it's a walk to the mailbox. For long trips, I use a 'small' steel large bird cage. It's heavy as heck, covers entire car seat and I have to jury rig or plan on replacing seat belt.
