IF I kept a Oothecas in the house within a tank, my partner would whack me on the spot. I'm being told NO bug tank within the house cause I asked about a meal worm tank before as someone was giving one away on craigslist. I used to raise meal worms for my birds years ago when I was breeding. So unfortunately that's not happening.....lol......

LOL...Man she would REALLY whack you for what I have in the basement, I'm breeding "Dubia Roaches" for my tarantulas, it is SO Easy, they can't climb the walls of Rubbermaid bins, They don't fly, They don't smell, you put in "egg crates" for "home" keep it HOT and Humid, I throw in veggie scraps and they breed their butts off LOL

I don't do roaches period anyway....lol....When I first moved in with my partner. There was a roommate, she was VERY messy with junk everywhere in her room. I was told she brought the roaches with her. It's disgusting I tell ya, they were in the bathroom, bedroom, everywhere......First I had to kick her out and toss out all her junk. I then removed all the food from the condo and then bomb the house. Sanitized everything with bleach water and then roach motel everywhere. I found where they were nesting and I went to war with them taking them out completely. It took me a month to rid every single last one of them. So needless to say I'm not a fan of roaches....lol.....We about freaked when we caught one here at the house in our kitchen as they've never been here before ever since we've bought the house....But it was the only one as there haven't been anymore appearing anywhere. Probably from the grocery stuffs we've brought home.

OMG, Nothing is worse than a roach infestation !!

Well that is the last thing I forgot to tell you about the "Dubia Roaches" They can't breed outside of the environment I create for them, it has to be a constant 95 degrees F for them to reproduce (they are not allowed in some southern states because of that)

Here in PA they cannot make babies outside, if they escape they would just die out not being able to reproduce

My Tarantulas LOVE them LOL

I like bugs but just not roaches....lol.....

No offense but any kind of roaches give me the creeps. I see the palmeto ones out in the gardens all the time, Every once in a while one will get in the house and I will chase it down and Squish. And down here we have a company come every three months and spray.:)

Well I lived in FL and the Palmetto bugs FLY  Giant Flying Roaches LOL
(not really "dirty" roaches though, just more of a flying bug)

I remember them living in my dads cherry tree LOL

Joe

I do know that they fly . I also found out the hard way that if you ever find one on it's back looking dead, don't flip it over because it will come back to life and run away:eek:. So squish it anyway. Darn things. yck.

I have seen the lubber grasshoppers at a native plant nursery that I went to in Venice. They were huge about 5 inches long. Never have seen one in my yard and don't want to. Ditto for the giant toads as they are very toxic if the dog licks it. I do get lots of butterflies almost all year which is really nice. we also have alligators at the edge of our back yard in the canal, which I also really like. And there are a lots wading birds of different types. I love most of Florida wildlife:D

Forgot about the Gators, I remember my dad having to change a flat tire (driving up on the "levee" roads in the Everglades) and my mom having to watch his back LOL

We would go out at night and crab and use a spot light to see all the gators with their eyes beaming back at us

I remember LOTS of Butterflies !!

Some people would call it Paradise

Joe

I have to say I love Florida and like I said before especially the Fla birds and the rest of the wildlife :). Did you live around the everglades?

I lived in a small town named "Sweetwater" it was a BEAUTIFUL small town south west of Miami right off the "Tamiami Trail" (S.W. 7th Terrace)

I went to school with the Seminole Indians, it was a time in my life I will never forget, I remember going back in the late 80s and driving west on Tamiami Trail, seeing all the Seminole Indians homes on the levee road north of the Tamiami Trail, I was completely shocked to see the giant old-fashioned satellite dishes in their yards LOL!!

Needless to say "Sweetwater" is no longer a charming "small-town"

Sounds like a really neat place to grow up. ...Alison:)

Most of my roses are done with their first flush - BUT, other things are blooming. :)

Been battling tent caterpillars like mad, they've nearly killed my honeysuckle, and are now "working" on my Hydrangea tree. So this morning I bit the bullet and brought out the big guns, aka pesticides. :( I HATE using pesticide with a passion, but saw no alternatives. I ONLY sprayed affected areas, nothing more.

The first two are first year roses, and I couldn't be happier with them.

David Austin "Darcy Bussells"

David Austin "Princess Alexandra of Kent" LOVE LOVE LOVE this rose!
