I just look up Hardy Gardenia as I have two kinds, Gardenia jasminoides ‘Kleim’s Hardy’ which I bought last year and it's sprouting from the base as the existing branches are dead due to the winter. The other kind I have is the Gardenia jasminoides ‘Frost Proof’ I think as the other one Gardenia jasminoides ‘Chuck Hayes’ is harder to find, can't remember what the blooms looks like right now as I didn't take photos of it, it's grown to about 6' tall while the other one is 4' tall but both suffered from the extreme weather this year and at least half is dead branches. The leaves that never dies in prior years turned all brown and died. But both are sprouting right now so we'll see what they do....I grew 4 gardenia plants last year and give them away, they're rather easy to propagate after I learned how after the first try with 8 stems and 4 survived after trying different things. This year there will be no propagating done due to the amount of die offs.....
