Local Honey

Wow. I just got some real honey from a neighbor with bees and I can't believe the difference. It's thick, slightly grainy and oh my god is it ever delicious. I don't think I'll ever put sugar in my tea again!
And the birds! They never seemed very interested in honey before but I let Madison take a lick off my finger and those eyes started flashing like mad!
I have been able to feed them things for the past few days that I could never get them to eat before, just by adding some of this honey.
I'm being careful not to overdo it as I don't want them to have too much sweet but I got my Macaw, Queen Hater of all Raw Vegetables, to eat carrots. RAW CARROTS.
I just minced it good like I've tried before, mixed with oats, 12 grain bread and boiling water, let it cool and she dove in like she hadn't eaten in years.
My Grey didn't even stick his tongue out and make raspberries! This is going to work great for getting him to eat his pellets.
The only one who wasn't enthused was my Amazon, but thats cause he's still mad at me for bringing him into the shower with me this morning. Thats what you get when you rub sticky granola bar all over your chest, Rocky!!

I have also ready that consuming a tablespoon of local honey can help during allergy season as the bees use the pollen from the plants to create the honey, you consume it and build up a tolerance to the pollen ... it's beneficial to all members of the house hold ...

Sarah, we had a "bee lady" (now retired) that lived down the street. She sold her operation to a couple of teenaged entrepueners (in 4H training), and they are raking in money hand over fist.

The honey I got from her was of the grainy type, too ... she explained that is natural that way ... without preservatives. Just heat it in a double boiler to decrystalize (don't nuke it in the micro) ... it lasts for a very long time (iffen you can keep yourself from eating it all in one sitting! LOL).

That is fantastic that your birdies (save for your Zon) loves the new addition to their diet. It is a good way to incorporate "healthy choices" with just a touch of goodie sweetness.

I miss our bee lady ... but, I do find naturally produced, preservative free honey at the local fruit stands (we are in a large fruit growing area).

Well done to your fids for eating all their fruits and veg, even if it is only for the honey. Raw Carrots, wait till Madison finds out that raw carrots can make pretty good missiles, Bucc loves it when he has carrot sticks, he just loves to shoot them at ya, but then he finds out that he loves this food and gets stressed out cos he hasn't got many left.
