Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to present....

Lilly Pilly's morning so far has consisted of her Fruit Compote Royale as prepared by her doting dadda, having her head scratched, and chasing Val and Fang out of her cage when they hop in the moment her back is turned to eat her food. All fairly typical!

Exhibit A - Lilly suspects something is up...

Exhibit B - Lilly zeroes in on her target and fuzzes up in preparation to attack!

That looks like the eye of war!!!!
Sorry to hear she is a hormonal egg laying again :(

You know it Aunty Laurasea, Val the budgie has already had a lorikeet-related vet visit after a huge fight over her food - but it doesn’t seem to have slowed him down!

Lilly, I thought you heard our requests about not laying more eggs!:(

Sorry Aunty Rozalka, she’s actually just laid another one! I’ve boiled it and set her up in a shallow nest so hopefully she’ll work out after a while that nothing’s gonna hatch and get some of those hormones out of her system!

It’s because if she sits on it for a week she may accidentally break the shell and get yuck all over herself and that would be one sticky smelly mess to clean up! Standard operational procedure when dealing with infertile eggs and mad hormonal females, while I wait for her dummy plastic eggs to arrive in the mail!

I see you are more intelligent than me;). I had the same "egg" problem with my budgie Limonka. Now, when I'm thinking about her, after 4 years I've just understood we are guilty of her death! I thought all the time she was old but old birds don't lay eggs:( The reason was a mirror which made her mentally ill - she was sitting there all days, started being hormonal and laid two eggs. I will never use again mirrors for alone birds!

Don’t blame yourself Rozalka, Limonka may have laid eggs with or without a mirror around. I’ve had female budgies with mirrors who never laid eggs, and I’ve had a female cockatiel (Kang) who never had a mirror and she laid about 8 or 9 eggs during her lifetime. I’d let her sit on them for a week or two until she lost interest and she’d be fine - until the next breeding season and she’d go and lay a few more! And then Sludge (our purple crowned lorikeet we had at that time) would jump into her cage and try to play football with her eggs, oh believe me Kang was not happy about that!

I see that HRH is up to mischief once again. At least she will be out of Fang and Val's face for a while if she sits on the nest LOL.

Yep HRH is up to her old tricks again! Fang and Val are indeed enjoying a little peace and quiet but I think her current phase of egg-fixation is about to come to an end and Lilly will come back at everyone in full force!

LOL...Spring is definitely in the air! :red1::green:Ellie and Bertie have moved from 'simple curiosity' of each other when we brought Bertie home in July. Bertie decided that Mommy was the best thing since sliced bread so they moved to 'attack if you get close to Mommy'. Now, Ellie is doing the 'love pose' and sweet southern belle 'tweets' complete with 'fluttering of her eyelashes' and Bertie is thinking Ummm...she's not so bad after all LOL! :DLove is in the air, every time I look around....and Mommy is busy keeping them separated as a result!

Oh dear Debbie I don’t envy your job in trying to keep those two lovebirds apart - you may end up being a grandma whether you like it or not!

LOL...Another PF friend just said that I'm doing well in recognizing the love dance between the two lovebirds. My response was that 'I sure do, they sing and I run and dance to separate the two'. This is my Spring aerobic workout.:). So...if I become a grandma I'll be in pretty good shape considering my Spring exercise routine!:D

It had to happen, Lilly’s been so fixated with her egg for all this time and she’s finally busted the shell so it had to be removed. She’s still feeling a little broody so I’ve substituted a faux pearl for her egg. I think in the coming days the novelty will wear off as she’s not nearly as fixated as she has been.

What I have discovered is it’s pretty hard to get dummy eggs for pet birds in this country! Cockatiel size eggs seem to be fairly easy to buy online since they’re notorious for chronic egg-laying but not quite so easy to get smaller ones. The faux pearl I’ve given Lilly is a little smaller than her egg, and much more lustrous! There’s a shop in town that sells tumbled semi-precious stones so when I get the chance I’m going to see if they’ve got something the right size and shape. My ex-cockatiel Kang used to get an egg-shaped piece of pale green jade to sit on when she got clucky, the colour didn’t bother her one bit!

Next time show a picture of her tiny egg, I like to see one that small! Of course I'm hoping she doesn't lay more.

It’s crazy how hard they are to find compared to how often they are suggested!

You are so right SilverSage! I get a lot of my bird stuff from an otherwise very good retailer attached to our state’s Parrot Society and they didn’t even have fake budgie eggs which would’ve done the trick!

And yes Debbie, I’m thinking a nice little rose or white quartz egg would be ideal. I did even price white South Sea baroque pearls around the 12 to 15mm size range and I probably would’ve bought her one but I couldn’t guarantee it would be remotely egg-shaped when it turned up!

You will all be pleased to hear that HRH Crown Princess Lilly Pilly has quite recovered from her most recent bout of hormonal egg-laying insanity. Her Royal Haughtiness is now back to her regular level of everyday lorikeet insanity!! Barely five minutes goes by that the house doesn't echo to the exasperated cries of "Lilly, NOOOOO!!!!" from either hubby or me, as she yet again tries to get herself into even more trouble. I swear that's the reason that purple crowns seem to have the shortest lifespan of any lorikeet, they are probably the most mischievous, hyperactive and worst behaved of the lot!

And then she'll flip over onto her back and want her head skritched and her feet tickled... like so...
