Cannot imagine how THAT happened, she must get it from your side of the family MrLaurieKeats!

The nerve of some people!!

You will all be pleased to hear that HRH Crown Princess Lilly Pilly has quite recovered from her most recent bout of hormonal egg-laying insanity. Her Royal Haughtiness is now back to her regular level of everyday lorikeet insanity!! Barely five minutes goes by that the house doesn't echo to the exasperated cries of "Lilly, NOOOOO!!!!" from either hubby or me, as she yet again tries to get herself into even more trouble. I swear that's the reason that purple crowns seem to have the shortest lifespan of any lorikeet, they are probably the most mischievous, hyperactive and worst behaved of the lot!

And then she'll flip over onto her back and want her head skritched and her feet tickled... like so...

Today I found a letter to the editor of our local newspaper which resonated with me, as I think it will for anyone recently bereaved, whether by the passing of a human or animal loved one. It reads as follows...

“The day my Dad died out west, an obviously tame corella walked up the back driveway of our then home. My mum popped him in her large cage and went looking for the owner, who when discovered not far away and given the circumstances, told Mum to hold on to him. The corella became a favourite, if noisy, part of the family, and though it was a bit quick for reincarnation, his presence did help to fill the void.”

I have been on the receiving end of a number of encounters such as this, including a certain blue Quaker who is now happily living in Toowoomba, and my tiny Lilly Pilly who, despite her miniature size, is such a force of nature in our home that it is impossible not to be overwhelmed by love for her, even when she is behaving like THE WORLD'S WORST BIRD (sorry Gail, but she really is up there with the worst of 'em!)

I also choose to believe that whenever I'm outdoors and I see a feather on the ground or floating in the air, it means there's a guardian angel somewhere keeping an eye on me. Whether that's actually true or not does not matter, it brings a great deal of comfort to me in these troubling times.

The following is a short video showing that HRH The Crown Princess Lilly Pilly can be sweet and cuddly for about 30 seconds at a time ... :)

She really is a truly terrible little bird :)

I don't know... that video isn't exactly getting across the whole "terrible little bird" angle. Not sweet little Crown Princess Lilly Pilly! She does no wrong, I tell ya!

Do you think only your bird firstly is so cuddly and next dangerous? Maybe on the vid below that's not really visible but in the end Zenek wanted to bite me!

Okay, that's WAY beyond adorable! HRH has gained yet another loyal subject. How may I serve you, my fine feathered lady?

Welcome to the Kingdom ... errrm ... Princessdom of HRH the Crown Princess Lilly Pilly saxguy, it's always nice to have another slave on board to share around the workload of worship and adulation that is her minimum daily requirement!

You may wish to familiarise yourself with the following short video which will give you an idea of her temperament. Just imagine yourself wearing the brocade pantaloons of Lord Edmund Blackadder and HRH as Queen Elizabeth the First. As has been pointed out to others before, you need to be aware of how quickly her mood can change from playful and girlish to "OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!!"

A typical encounter with my teeny tiny Terror-saurus. Look at those pinning eyes, those fuzzing feathers, she's so fuzzed up she looks like she'll explode! Don't walk away - RUN!!!!

Well Scott this behaviour does normally end with her launching herself at me and attacking my face, usually straight after that loud “squawk” you heard. She gets away with it because she’s too tiny to do any damage. The only thing that saved me this time was the presence of the camera!

And just when I thought we were in the clear with the egg-laying she presented me with one today, and looked pretty proud of herself too. I’ve had the discussion with her vet about a hormonal implant and apparently it is doable so she’ll definitely be getting one when this cycle is over!
