I think it’s important not to feel, as parrot owner/slaves (ha), that what seems to be a step back isn’t always so. Kokkie has days she prefers to be in her cage. She can go a whole day and not want to come out even if the door is open. That doesn’t mean she’s failing or we are failing. It means she may feel “touched out” or have had enough. Just like people, our feathered kids need space sometimes. Kokkie does this every week or two. It’s just how she is. I used to worry but she’s just wanting some “me” time.

We see this with Julio as he is Free Roaming within the house 24/7. And, those days come around when being HRH, he elects to contemplate the Universe and/or zones-out in his cage. The amazing part is that after a day off he wants to be really close to his folks! Happy to hear that you are experiencing the same things!!

The most adorable feathers are the itty bitty ones on Kokkies head. Finding these now during her molt so cute. Sunglasses for size.

My Bella sometimes elects to stay in the cage for more of the day.
She always spends some time out of cage but …..
Bella tries to stay in sync with my wife.
If my wife is napping Bella will stay her cage.
We have a corner of her cage screened by hanging toys.
She goes there to nap or hide , sometimes she plays with the toys there and talks quietly to them.
What’s interesting is that end of the cage never has any droppings on the paper.

The thing I’d like to know is, should I ignore her when she is in her hiding place?

Whenever Kokkie is in her alone mood, I’ll walk by the cage and offer to take her with me. If she refuses I move on. Seems to work with us giving her the choice.

Random fact of the day: a group of parrots is called a pandemonium. So correct!!!
And a group of lorikeets is known as an insanity, at least it is in our house. Actually it doesn't even need to be a group, just the one will do it!!

There was a movie out a few years ago called “Pandorum”
was a very strange movie, some parrots would have improved it.

Please tell the beautiful Kokkie that I know a VERY good pedicurist who would be only too happy to offer his services. He goes by the name of Lovejoy, and Peach the princess parrot highly recommends him!

What kind of parrot is the one with the bright red head?

Kokkie is adorable. Nico also tosses his bowls if he doesn’t like what’s presented to him. He also came to me on a seed diet like Kokkie did you. He wasn’t happy with the changes to his diet. He was perfectly content with a seed only diet.

Oh that's Lovejoy, he's a varied lorikeet. Right little terror he is too, you can have him if you want him ;)

It’s springtime here. Kokkie is in full-on hormonal time. She’s trying to feed everyone and showing off whenever anyone walks by. What a girl - I have a little floozie on my hands! Hahahahaha!

Here she is batting her eyes!

Stunning shot of a stunning girl, Lea!! 😍

A full, beautiful set of feathers commonly takes two and half years to regrow based on normal replacement.

Her first year with a fully new set, she will likely be truly full of herself!! AND Rightfully So!!
