Emily Jean( rescued with Stuart/Loretta
Kiwi rescued Mum of 5!
Chico/rescue...lover boy of all!!
Chirpy..Lutino
Romeo...rescue...Dad of 5!!
Blu
My rescue keet Emily Jean has been broody almost all spring/ summer so far...and believe it or not she had produced about 8 unfertile eggs in a very short time!!??? There are males in the room with her that I have also rescued but she is never allowed to free fly due to a previous injury she recieved before I rescued her about 4 years ago!! She is caged alone because she is my "special girl *I think she had flown into a window/wall/ or mirror at some point...recently she has started a new clutch and beings she has a bum leg she spends alot of time very close to or completely on the floor of the cage...she has layer a total of 6 again and my first question is how can I possibly get her to stop?? And now since yesterday she has an irritated cloaca!!??? Could it be from laying on so many eggs?? Or could it be from being on the ground alot because she decided to have them in her "food bowl"... I have no idea what to do about this beings it never occurred before??? There are no avian vets anywhere near me so I'm reaching out here...tyia!!Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!! Could she be egg bound??

Welcome to the forums, @GuppyKeet!, but I'm sorry for Emily Jean's situation. I'm not a vet and I don't know that anyone here would be able to accurately diagnose exactly what's going on with her, but the issue with her cloaca could be caused by having laid so many eggs. Have you tried using dummy eggs yet? I once had a chronic egg-laying lorikeet and dummy eggs worked pretty well with her. You can get really convincing ones from www.dummyeggs.com, they may help.

In terms of possible egg binding, is she exhibiting signs of panting or straining that may indicate she's trying to lay? The trouble she's having with her leg may be related to egg binding, or it may be something completely different, it's really hard to say. I found some articles written by avian vets, perhaps they might help you?

I've also linked our resource showing locations of avian vets, maybe there's one here that you didn't know about?

Even if you have no avian vets near you, a regular vet may be able to contact one and liaise with them in treating Emily Jean if that's the only option available.

Hopefully someone with a bit more experience will see your post and be able to help you further. I hope something here will be of some help to you and I wish you and your Emily Jean all the very best!!
