I took Snowy to the vet recently after she started showing signs of illness such as lethargy and weakness, and she was underweight despite eating a lot.

The vet tested her blood sugar and confirmed that she has diabetes.

I'm not surprised but it's just depressing to come to the realisation that my birds are getting older, and I can see Snowy's health deteriorate. Ever since I got her she had health problems. She was smaller than most budgies, she struggled with heavy breathing, vomiting, and much more.

The vet gave me two medications to treat her with, which I'll have to give her for the rest of her life which unfortunately may not be a long time.

I hate to see all my birds passing away. They deserved to live long and happy lives but none of them made it past 5.. i really hope snowy will live longer than that but as of now things aren't looking great

I'm sorry you're going through this with Snow, @BirdyBee. It's just so unfair, so many birds come into the world already prone to conditions that can take them from us prematurely. My 'tiel Fang is on daily meds for a heart arrhythmia that his vet suggested was inherited from one of his parents, and probably unknown to his breeder as well. Fang does pretty well on his meds, and I hope that Snow fares as well as Fang!! 🙏🙏🙏
