wow in australia i thought they would be cheaper because i alway see videos of like a bunch of cockatoos flying so i thought there must be macaws too, are cockatoos cheap there?
Fwew! Tab, that is expensive! Around here the sell for 1500 or 2000 for a B&G usually 2000 for GW and 15000-20000 for HYM I wonder why they are more expensive at Australia.
Enza: Macaws aren't native to Australia, at least not Blue and Golds, Scarlets, Green Winged, And Hyacinths.
Macaws are from South America! I adopted one from a member on here free of charge and one I paid $825 with a cage years ago. You can get a B&G here for $1200 for a baby and as low as $600 for a older one. Mainly because they're prolific breeders.
Cockatoos are native here, so they are cheap, you can get them for 100 dollars! They are in the rescues, where as we never ever have a macaw in a rescue..
But the prices are slowly coming down, which sucks, because they are going to be cheap and everyone will buy them and they will end up in rescues, like they are in America
Rose breasted (galahs) i see ads from 50 dollars to 200 dollars
Sulpher crested are 200-400, i think in rescues they are cheaper, plus you can find some which are giveaway in newspapers
Then the rarer black ones are about 1000-2000 dollars i believe!
It just sucks because no one appreciates them..
I know someone who lives up the road from me who has a galah, who just has it in a cage, no toys, just on seed, they just think its a cheap bird because they are common here
Thats why i wish macaw prices would stay expensive, you can get them sometimes for 3500 dollars now :/
My husband and I's macaw was free( my hubbys inheritance so to speak)but after you add up a new cage, toys and perches. Plus food, he has cost us around 1000$

I have a mimi Macaw. A little female Hahn's. I researched in NJ and saw most sold for between $750-$900. There were very few breeders, just one I found and he was selling for $750 no guarantee, no teating and no DNA. I ended up buying from Bird Paradise, they gave a full guarantee, DNA, and tested for disease. They do not allow unweaned babies to leave but do allow you to come and visit and feed with them. I was experienced in hand feeding so after a few times I was lucjy enough to get to bring Hahnna home, she was seven weeks. They sell for $900 but I was quoted $800 obpver the phoneand they honored that. I was very pleased with them. Hahnna the first week we had her came down with an upper respiratory infection and BP stood right by her and split the vet bill with me. We agreed to split since it could have occured at my home or there, but anyone that has dealth with a pet store knows that it is honorable for anyplace to even give you a penny without a fight. No fight here. They stood right by her and immediatley offered up money. I may have been able to get the full amount paud by law but I felt it was fair to split it, since she was fine when she came home and it could have very well have just been a change ib environment that caused it. All in all I felt the $800 for her was a fair deal and we are very pleased with her. She is everything and more then I expected. She is currently five months now, helathy and extremely intelligent and chatting up a storm. Every day she amaze me with something new. Elaine and Hahnna. PS. I would like to add that I would have like to have adopted a little Hahn's but for whatever the reason the. Mini Macaws do not seem to easily available here in NJ especially the Hahn's and Nobles are really hard to find.
I too have a Hahns Mini Macaw. i just got her a few days ago. there is a mom and pop pet shop the next town over that hand raises a variety of birds. they have everything from finches and parakeets, to african greys and the big macaws. i remember they had a Hyacinth for a long time and finally homed her to a family in Ohio i think. they had a sign up and everything about her enjoying her new home, with a photo. she was a beautiful bird. but i dont remember what they were asking for her.
anyways, a little off topic there. my Hahns macaw is just over a year old and they were asking $800 for her. because my husband and i are such frequent shoppers there (they know us by name, they know all our animals, etc lol), they let me have her for $700 =) she is a great bird, quiet, happy, playful. they said she knows "hello" but she hasnt said it for me yet, but she mumbles something. im sure my sunny, who is a talker, will teach her some new words!

I almost paid around £900 for a baby Blue+Gold here in the UK. Not entirely sure if that's "cheap" or not, but I generally got my birds 'discounted' from there because the breeder knew me.
