How much did you pay for your Macaw..

I almost paid around £900 for a baby Blue+Gold here in the UK. Not entirely sure if that's "cheap" or not, but I generally got my birds 'discounted' from there because the breeder knew me.

Wait a sec....what did I miss, and when did I miss it???? Cat, you have a B&G baby????? :11:

almost ;)

I was going to get a b+g before we first moved out (after Merlin) but Andrew felt more comfortable getting a Grey from the guy instead. So we put a deposit down... and then Andrew didn't want another bird (we got a housemate instead )

So yeah, made plenty of enquiries about blue and golds - they hadn't laid yet though so we didn't put a deposit on any. :)

Major bummer, Cat!!! But hey, you'll be the proud parronts of a baby grey. :)....or did I misunderstand that, too??? Did Andrew change his mind about the baby grey and got a roommate INSTEAD of the grey?

Sorry....I'm having a typical blonde day today. :62::43:

Hahah! No, no baby Grey. This was 2 years ago now we were considering adding one. Andrew put deposit down, then pulled out. We've now just got our four, 2 budgies and 2 sennies :)

ONE day we'll have a ducorps too and a grey... But that will be many many years down the line :)

Re: how much did your macaw cost?

B&G KYD$1,800 = USD$2,250
GW KYD$2,400 = USD$3,000
Scarlet KYD$2,500 = USD$3,125
Hybrids range KYD$1,200 - 1,800 = USD$1,500 - 2,250

Nope, not cheap when you convert your money to ours. lol. I visited England 2 years ago, and had sticker shock when converting our money to yours.

I paid $900 12 years ago for a baby.

Hi All,

Just purchased an unrelated pair of B&G, young birds, for $12000. Won't receive them till July after they are weaned.

Could have picked up B&G for 4500ea if I wanted to, become more common in Australia, which I guess is a good thing.

Paid a premium from a reputable breeder because he had spent the time, over the phone discussing anything regarding macaws and he could prove the history of each of his breeding stock.

Have placed a deposit for a pair of greenwings and Scarlett's for next year also. Pairs setting me back 20000 ea pair.

Always wanted macaws, now I can afford them. Interesting to see the wife's reaction when she finds out how much I've spent.

Have been promised a hyacinth bird from a family friend who is attempting o breed his pair, as there a very, very few of these birds in Australia, I'm led to believe less then 10 birds. He indicated it is sometime away though as those with these birds are trading amongst themselves only to try and build up numbers before selling as pets or for collections.

Wish I lived in the US, was always envious of the prices and availability of all macaws.

Here in a America we're jealous of your cockatoo prices lol although here it's probably a good thing, there are already a ton of cockatoos who are neglected. Galahs cost between 1,500-2,500

And forget about even finding one of those beautiful Major Mitchell cockatoos, if you can find one, which is around $5K to $10K in the US. In Australia, I would imagine they're priced like budgies. LOL!

Major Mitchell's around here are about $4,500.

i paid 2450.00 for my ruby macaw baby. could have paid around 1600.00 but i read a lot of bad things about the breeder that had them for a lower price. I would much rather pay more for a bird that i know was weened the right way and well taken care of before it comes home to me.

How do you all put smile faces and bird emojis

In the compose window, there are lines of icons and you just put the cursor where you want it to go in the text window, then click the icon, and it will put it in. It won't look like a picture until you preview or post, just code, and you might need to use the advanced window. If you don't see the icons you aren't in advanced mode.

:blue1:

My Macaw was $1400. :D:52::green2::30: :angel-smi

You figured out the emojis! Gus was $400 or so to the rescue, we donate to them regularly so he's an ongoing expense. He's kind of a special needs bird, and we didn't get to experience the baby bird joys, but then we didn't get to experience the hormonal rage period either.

I paid $1,800 for Rhage. But after his initial expenses, cage, toys, vet, ect... He was close to $4,000.

But can say with perfect certainty, he is worth EVERY penny :)

The true cost of any parrot is your SOUL! Because they will own it !

Yup... And your heart, your time, your wallet, your social life, any relationship you may want later, half the bed, your lap while you are in the bathroom, your furniture and walls (great chewing toys), the gift of hearing, the buttons on your remotes....

Yup. They are priceless :D:blue1::blue1:

This lol ^^^

Paid $1200 plus $25 for dna sexing not including cage cost, toys, constant pellets supply, vet visits etc etc. We researched the breeder before we purchased and turned out to be fantastic. Very knowledgeable and his birds are extremely sweet and loving.

Hi,

I have 4 macaws, 2 bg (Sugar and Honey) and 2 scarlets (Tino and Trudi).

I paid $715 for Sugar. He was sold as "untamed" but handreared- he had just forgotten, that people can be nice. He was sold as a 3-4 year old female, but turned out to be a 13 year old male

I paid 360 for Honey as 4 month old parentreared and also untamed.

I paid 1000 for Tino, who at the time was 22 years old, who for the past 21 years had been living in outdoor aviaries and made macaw babies :D He had not been handled for 21 years other than with a net and he was also of a naturist conviction (plucker :smile040: )

Last but not least I got Trudi from a reputable breeder in Germany. I paid 1785 for an amazing baby, who has been handled just right. She was parent hatched and parent fed for 1 month along with the breeder handling her. Thereafter she was handreared and tought how to fly. I guess I have to calculate the gas and bridge fare into her price also, as I had to travel 7 hours each way to pick her up. She is the perfect pet and when the time comes, she will also know how to care for her young :)
