Guess who's coming home today.

.I am posting like crazy. Let me know if it gets to be too much. We don't want to be rude.

LOL!! :D

We love pics here!! We also know what it's like to bring in a new one, you have every right to be excited and post happy!! Very happy to see how well things are going in such a short time frame!! :)

What a beautiful Ruby Macaw!!!! I declined a lady that tried to give me her Catalina Macaw awhile back, I wonder where that bird went. I love macaws, but I just can't handle two in the same household if they both go hormonal on me at the same time....lol...So there's only one macaw in this household.

I personally wanted a Harlequin Mac. But this was going to be Jenna's companion so it was my job to back down and let her decide. She did a great job! One day We will have the aviary large enough to have both. And maybe even foster those that people want to toss in the streets after they teach them bad habits.

I swear, Ruthie has SUCH a content and peaceful look on her face, as if she's been with you for AGES. :D

You and JMarie have to be over the moon. :)

How is Teka taking to the new addition????

Teka is not really enjoying the separation. When I do go and get him he is super cuddly and refuses to let my hand go.

It won't be too long for him though. We are going to run a few more tests on Ruthie soon and then they will be able to be closer together. The quarantine with these two is kinda unique. This is because they came from the same room at the rescue, almost right next to each other. I unfortunately never saw Ruthie when we got Teka because he was the second bird I saw that day and he never let me go back in that room to meet any others. She did just have blood work done a few weeks ago. But we are willing to pay for the rest to be run even though they are optional and she looks fine.

Teka really wants the be bought back to where all the action happens, he misses his stuff. He refuses to voluntarily let go of my finger, and just holds it up to his face and rubs on it.

Great news! I just got puked on! :D Not many places you can get away with saying that and not get a ton of bad looks.

We have had to work with Ruthie today because she has not wanted to step up to come out of her cage until just a min ago. But just minutes after getting her out she decided to share some food with me. Good times.

So after a few college exams it seems both Ruthie and Teka did well with us both gone for a few hours each day this past week. When Teka is out of his cage he does not want to hear me interact with Ruthie. In fact he squawks like I have never heard him do before. That is something we will have to figure out how to work through. Ruthie is starting to take to Jenna more than me. Jenna can touch her at any time. With me it takes a bit more work to to get her to step up and even then she will not always allow me to pet her like she does Jenna. That again is ok for now since she is supposed to be Jenna's friend.

I have learned that Amazons are cake to hold compared to a huge Macaw. Ruthie can leave some big marks as she tries to keep from sliding on my arm. I'm sure its just me because Jenna does not have the same issue. Take a look

I am SO happy to hear that JMarie and Ruthie are hitting it off so well!!!

It almost sounds like you have the same problems my husband has with my Macs, but you probably a lot less, since you ARE a birdyman. ;) My hubby cannot take Niko out of his cage - EVER, and I've had him since he was 4 months. As a matter of fact, Niko won't really allow him to pat him either. A stroke or two, and then that's enough.

Ripley will readily step up on him (if he's out of the cage), but even he doesn't really like so much affection from him. I think it's because I'm home with my fids all day long - and they DO get spoiled/loved by me all day long.

The marks on your arm, are they from claws or from the beak? I'm still in a wool sweater, so for the time being my arms are being spared, lol.

Those are all from her claws. Though now that Jenna is off work Ruthie does lunge at me a bit, she has not done anything to leave a beak mark.

1 month update here. Things are still going well. Nothing drastic has happened. We have learned that if I am the first one each day to spend time with Ruth before she sees Jenna, then everything goes well. But if Jenna starts working with her first then she will be aggressive with me for most of that day. She does lunge at me pretty hard (smacking her beak hard against the bars) after she has been put back in her cage for the night. Though at the rescue they all were able to get her to step any time. We have a very hard time getting her off of the java tree. I have gotten the cage part down though. If she hasn't seen Jenna she will be very nice to me and come right out of her cage for me.

She has gained 31 grams in the last month eating the usual zupreem, harrissons, TOP, avi-cakes, veggies, and veggi-mash, and nuts. She is up to 1111g, and starting to look better. Though her breast bone and back bones are still very prominent.

I invested in a table saw and have been busy cutting wood. I had to shovel 14" of snow off out patio to be able to use the saw 2 days ago. Today Jenna started dyeing the wood. This is our first attempt, so far its going well.

Teka and Ruthie are now hanging out, kinda. There is the 3/4" acrylic barrier in the cage but they can at least now see each other and hang. I had 100' of 3/4" manila rope arrive. Just to make sure we cleaned it with Dawn for several days. It seemed fine but was way too thick to be able to make a net. So I ran it through their cages and made a jungle gym type setup....get it..jungle gym?:D Those pics will be in a few hours. I really like it but will monitor closely for any safety issues that may pop up.
