Guess who's coming home today.

Rea or Miri would have that destroyed in under a minute LOL :D

Great video!!

It was a good morning with Ruthie. I put a few more toys in her cage and after the initial... Hey crazy lady what are you doing... She had a blast!! I'm glad Joann fabrics sends me so many coupons. I have a feeling we will be going through a lot of fleece!! I'm very excited to have her in our home and will make sure to keep everyone updated on our progress here!!

She seems to be such a happy bird . And that's really excellent... especially considering that she hasn't even met the 24 hour mark yet! You have a wonderful bird there :)

JMarie, did you make Ruthie that PomPom??? I LOVE IT!!! Would you mind sharing how you made it? Pretty please??? :D I'll turn my boys into cheerleaders, too - well, hopefully they'll play as nicely with it as Ruthie does. :54:

That is just WRONG!! :p :20:

ummmm, good luck with that one  especially Ripley, I ain't seen the GW's ever be "nice" to any toys (or house, cage, etc...):D:54:

The pom was sooooooo easy. I took 4 different color fleece pieces and cut them in strips ranging about 8-16 inches. (This is a guess, really I just cut pieces all willy-nilly). I cut one long strip, probably about 24 inches. I took the long strip and laid it horizontally, then took the smaller strips and laid them vertically over the horizontal one. Make sure at this point that you have placed the strips with an equal amount on top and bottom of the horizontal strip so at the end you aren't lop sided! I put a ton of strips in there so it would be nice and full. When I was satisfied that I had enough I took the two ends of the long strip and tied it tight over the horizontal strips. Then just used one side of the long strip to tie it to the cage.

Voila, pom!

It'll be SO adorable it they actually plaid with the pom poms. :D

Thank you SO much for the instructions, JMarie. I'll be heading to the nearest StichNSow ASAP. :D

Is Ruthie still playing nicely with hers??? I keep re-playing the video because it's just HILARIOUS how she's playing with it. :D

leave it to a native German, living in Joisey to try to emasculate the males :p :D :54:

Maybe I'll loan you Salsa so he can yell "GO CUBS GO!" on the sidelines ;)

(Note: Granted the Chicago Cubs aren't the right kind of team for boasting cheerleaders - but it's the enthusiasm that counts! :D)

Heck yeah, gotta support the home team. Even if they have had a few bad years.

Now THAT sounds like a plan. :D Tony, if my Pom Poms turn out all right, I'd be more than happy to send you some. I think it would be a riot seeing Salsa actually cheer like that. ;)

Got home a bit ago and gave my first afternoon hello to Ruthie.

There is one expected issue. She will allow scratches all over, but did challenge me with her beak once. I gave a nice response but did not back down. Seconds later she lifted her wing for scratches. Then she turned around to face the back of the cage and did the same thing as you will see in the photo below. I am not sure what the turning away from me deal is all about ( suggestions anyone???). But she let me scratch her everywhere when she did that.

She will get all the time she needs to be comfortable enough to come out again. Until then she will just be getting treats and scratches.

Scratches after her beak challenge. I call it that because it wasn't really a bite at all.

Steve: turning her back to you should most likely be interpreted that she doesn't consider you a threat. Maybe she's ignoring you, but at least she doesn't think you're dangerous ;)

It appears that you and Jenna are coming right along with Ruthie :D

The pictures are all SO beautiful, just like your Ruthie. :) I am going to take a guess here why she may have challenged you, and then turned around:
1. She could be a bit tired from a long night.
2. New home, new sounds, new sights - perhaps a bit unsure of it all still
3. Trying to find out WHAT she can get away with (even though I really doubt that one, since she's so laid back)

I bet you came home with a HUGE smile on your face, too. ;)

Side note: We found out the power went out for 3 hours while we were picking up Ruthie last night. This may not seem like a big deal but it was 20 degrees out. Teka is in a room that has a patio door that takes up one entire wall, and 2 other walls are exterior walls, and the ceiling in that room is the upstairs patio (this is what allows us to have a loud macaw in an apartment). So that can be an issue with no power for long periods. The bigger issue is that my saltwater reef tank can't go very long at all without water moving. The bacteria consumes all the oxygen rapidly. We were lucky that nothing bad happened though. Its just crazy that the one time I leave home for an extended period of time something like that happens. Normally I use my diesel truck to power our home when the power goes out. But both me and the truck were in Wisconsin.

Actually I'm not from Chicago... BUT Salsa is! :D

Steve, you probably knew I was going to ask you sooner or later....can you PLEASE share a pic of your reef tank??? Pretty please...with Ruthie and Teka on top? :D

The ONLY reason we got a generator was because when I had my 180 gallon SPS tank, and we lost power, I was honestly driving my husband (and everyone else around me) INSANE.
