Hi!
This is a problem I didnāt ever see myself having with my birds but here we are lol!
If youāve read my previous threads you know that I rescued a Quaker parrot (who has settled in wonderfully!) Iāve recently took Tofu to the vets, sheās got a lack of muscles in her wings so she canāt fly so Iām building her wing strength up - a little every day, and sheās partially blind. However sheās also bonded very closely to my GCC.
Iāve always kept a close eye on them whenever they interact with one another, making sure thereās no aggression or anything like that. Theyāve always gotten on perfectly fine, they sleep in separate cages and just preen each other. Roz (my GCC) prefers my company so she spends most of the day near me on her stand, but will fly back and forth to sort of check up on Tofu, have a preen, etc.
Recently though, her relationship hasā¦ gotten intense. Roz is constantly rubbing her but against tofu, doing this weird low pitch screaming sound which due to past experience I know is a mating noise. Sheās always been a little rambunctious, sheās tried multiple times to regurgitate on me but Iāve always quickly shut those advances down as I know it isnāt good for a parrot to think your itās mate due to behavioural issues.
But Iām unsure what to do in this scenario. Tofu has really come out of her shell with Roz, and Roz really loves Tofu so Iād be upset to find that they canāt play together anymore. But will this turn into a behavioural issue for Roz? Sheās rubbing her butt all over Tofu and Tofu the poor thing has no idea whatās going on, she does not want to do that in any shape or form and of course theyāre different species to begin with. I always try and stop Roz from advancing but she just flies back a few minutes or hours later and sheās back at it. Sheās never been aggressive to Tofu yet though.
If there is any advice anyone could give me Iād really appreciate it! I just donāt want Roz getting hormonal and frustrated, when I could prevent it. (I make sure not to touch her wings, I only pet her head. So I know Iām not causing any trouble lol)
