Oh my goodness! Thatās so scary!Nice new set up! I had to stop using the acrylic foraging toys because Ona has one with little shape cutouts and she was getting her head stuck in it! :O The only one I give her now is the hanging cups that open from above with a big opening. No more plastic containers with shape cut outs for her!
Thank you! Oh that sounds scary! Could you send a pic of that foraging toy? I may have what you are talking about. Is it the Tropical Chickens Boredom Buster Foraging Box? Rico doesnāt use it much but I do have it.Nice new set up! The cups? Is it like the You & Me Cocktail toy? Or is it like the SuperBird Creations Bottomās Up toy?
Thatās actually really scary! Iām not sure Iāll let Rico use it. He can only get half his head in there so Iām not sure if I should sand it Or give it to the budgie later on or just throw it out. I would love to save it however I can though because itās worked so well in the past.Yes it is the Tropical Chickens one: https://a.co/d/iaoqhb2
I still have it but donāt let her use it. I should probably just throw it out.
The one she does use and like is: Super Bird Creations SB634... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003HKOXJ4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Ona does really like the Super Bird Creations one. I put dried veggies in it and she goes crazy for them. It's also fun cause it swings and moves and she likes to climb around on it a lot.Thatās actually really scary! Iām not sure Iāll let Rico use it. oh yeah Iāve seen that one! Iāve been planning on buying it but considering Iāve been looking into like 12 others, I donāt think I could afford all of them why does bird toy shopping gotta be so hard? I do think Iāll get that one first though when I have the money!

Yeah, I was debating how to reuse the other one too but couldn't think of anything. :/
Dehydrated veggies Especially the peas. I have a hard time filling up the foraging toy without her trying to take my finger off!Ona likes dried veggies?
That sounds like a fun challenge for Ona! Has she ever fallen off it? Rico enjoys climbing on his bottoms up toy and may or may not have fallen off his.
You could maybe use it to hold something or maybe make some resin art with it? or use some translucent paint to make them into some sun catchers or something? Maybe? I dunno lol
Ona had very interesting taste! I have rarely seen a bird who enjoys dehydrated veggies! But Ona has good taste. Peas are in fact, absolutely delicious! Especially when fresh! My auntie lory (yes, lory like lorikeet), grows snap peas in her yard and those peas are super tasty!Dehydrated veggies Especially the peas. Haha, silly Rico. I don't think she ever has fallen! She likes to hang upside down sometimes. Little bat.
Oh that are interested toy re-purpose ideas!
I have a veggie dehydrator and dry all kinds of fruits and veggies. Last year I dried lots of greens to crumble in the birds' dry food.Ona had very interesting taste! Ouch! Ona REALLY likes her dehy veg! I guess a bit of hooman finger would be a good appetizer for a hungry Ona
Hereās a horror story:
āOna, I just want to give you these dehydrated vegetables.ā Said onamom
āChomp Chomp.ā Said the rabid ona.
Thatās actually quite surprising! With a toy like that, I would think she would fall off haha
Thank you! I honestly want to take the toy and do some resin art in it! Like some koi on the bottom one, a lily pad in the middle one and a flying birt on the top one
Ooh do you remember the price? I kinda want to get one and dehydrate some fruits to eat or some applesauce to make some āfruit leatherā or whatever itās called and maybe share it with Rico if he wants it! And my family could make jerky because I guess they have always wanted to.I have a veggie dehydrator and dry all kinds of fruits and veggies. I got it on Amazon for $37. Elite Gourmet EDF319 food dehydrator. Basically it works like a low speed upside down blow dryer. It has many temperature settings and time settings. It's round clear plastic with six round stackable clear plastic trays so you can dry a lot of stuff at once and keep the different foods separated. You just thin slice whatever you want to dry and arrange the slices on the trays, put the perforated lid on it, select the time and temperature and let it run until whatever you're drying is as dry as you want it. It's really an amazing, inexpensive kitchen gadget. I dried sliced tomatoes and then put the slices in olive oil to use for cooking. Same with sweet red peppers. I dried mushrooms from the grocery store for cooking. Apples for snacking, bananas, any fruit really. At the end of the summer I stripped all the leaves off my broccoli plants and dried them to put in my birds' food. Same with basil. Smells amazing! I haven't tried to make jerky but why not? If you search for the product by name I'm sure you'll find it on Amazon. I checked and it's still available for about $37.Ooh do you remember the price? Oh my god! That sounds AWESOME! I have GOT to see if it is available and will ship here! That sounds so awesome and I could make SO many tasty snacks! I could dehydrate some apples and be able to bring them with me when we travel around (the very few times we do) the city or go to anchorage. I could even dehydrate some strawberry slices! Do you know how raspberries turn out in the dehydrator? We have them grow in our backyard! Rico likes dehydrated blueberries so I could make those for him! Whatās the best thing to put in there? I haven't tried too many things because I don't have any berry bushes on my property (don't want to attract deer because they would decimate my garden) but my neighbor has raspberry bushes so I'm going to "borrow" some this summer! I was very pleased with the dried apples! You don't add any sugar to the fruit. It's natural sweetness and flavor concentrates when all the water evaporates off. I think I dried the apple slices for 6 hours. I don't pay much attention to the timer. The dried cherry tomatoes are awesome! Slice each little tomato in half then dry them. I almost forgot deer existed! We donāt exactly have them way up here, however we do have moose. Unrelated but, do you see deer wandering around? Do they ever approach you?I haven't tried too many things because I don't have any berry bushes on my property (don't want to attract deer because they would decimate my garden) but my neighbor has raspberry bushes so I'm going to "borrow" some this summer! Where in Alaska are you? I'm about 25 miles inland from Portland ME. Most of the moose here in Maine are at least an hour farther north of me. We've driven around a good part of the state and I've had yet to even see one. They may be big but they are shy and elusive creatures. Deer are much more common. I see them on the dirt road a lot but I don't think they ever approach anyone. Some people deliberately put "deer food" out to attract them but NO WAY do I want them hanging around my house! They will eat all your shrubs, flowers and vegetables and once they know your property is a good source you never get rid of them.I almost forgot deer existed! Ooh ur gonna steel tha razz berryz?! I am caling the copes on u!!!11!1!!!!111!11!1!
Were the dried apples crunchy like apple chips? Because if so, that will be a life saver! The apple chips here are 6 bucks for like 8oz. Itās a total waste of money! I do think I could make some apple chips that could slap harder than I slap bags of rice! Apple chips with squeezed raspberry juice on it and when itās done, add a little bit of strawberry jam and sha bam! That sounds like itād be so good Iād ascend! Ooh, or apple chips with a little honey drizzled on! Or caramel sauce! So many possibilities!
I am now inclined to get one in my grubby little hands!
Not gonna say where but somewhere down south.Where in Alaska are you? I'm about 25 miles inland from Portland ME. Most of the moose here in Maine are at least an hour farther north of me. With this food dehydrator you can make dried apples by the pound! I just pulled a bag I had forgotten about out of the fridge and they were still yummy after 9 months in there. I dry off enough water so they are still kinda chewy. I suppose you could dry them until they're crunchy. I'd like to try them dipped in caramel sauce or maple syrup.
I'll probably ask my neighbor because he has security cameras (hate those things) and I don't want the embarrassment of being caught. I give the guy tomato and pepper plants every year because I grow way too many plants. I think he can spare a bag of berries. I supply a lot of my neighbors with tomato plants and still grew 25 plants last year which was pretty stupid because it's just the two of use. This year I'm only growing eight.
I only asked where in Alaska for a general geography. It's my understanding that the strip that runs down the coast has a different climate from the more northern interior part. Not gonna say where but somewhere down south.
Shy? Here they are very common and they will literally go after you if youāre even somewhat within their vicinity. They are probably very different here than in Maine though.
It seems deer are āpestsā there for crops then? I know they can be a vessel for CWD which spreads like wildfire so thatād be the only reason Iād keep them away since I donāt like seeing deer suffer from it since itās so horrible. But I never thought they would be a problem for crops!
Ooh now that sounds awesome! I could make 3 LBS of apple chips if I wanted to for maybe 12 bucks? 15? Idk but that sounds good! I could pour some caramel on an apple chip, add a little sea salt, and then freeze it! It would make for a really good dessert for sure! I could dehydrate some strawberries and then dip half in chocolate and freeze those as well! Oh the delicious possibilities!
Thatās smart. A fair trade seems to be good! Tomaters for razzies? Thatās a good deal! Also, you seem like a cool neighbor!
Yeah, I figured but Iām less vague with friends so in my pea brain I felt as if I had to say that. As for geography of AK, I canāt say anything about anywhere that isnāt south/southeast as I havenāt studied the state, nor been farther than like 4 cities.I only asked where in Alaska for a general geography. You sound creative with food- perhaps you should be a chef!
